Looked back in my records out of curiosity. The Yokos were actually Avid v4s variety.

The speed rating for H-rated tires is 130 mph and V-rated tires are good for up to 149 mph and Z-rated for over 149 mph. The tire manufactures added specific ratings above 149 mph W&Y and (W)&(Y) in 1992 to specify exactly what speed over 149 mph the tire will handle. The W’s that I’m running on the RDX are rated at 168 mph, while the Y-rated on our TL are at 186 mph. In most countries, the law requires that tires must be specified, and fitted, to exceed the maximum speed of the vehicle they are mounted on, with regards to their speed rating code (except for "Temporary Use" spare tires).

The most important factor in this discussion Yokohama will not divulge to us. The composition of the H, W, and V4s vs. Avid ENVigor. We will never know how much of the 10-20 materials-rubber, Styrene&Polybutadiene, carbon, silica, etc-they mix into the tires. My best guess is that the combinations are quite a bit softer on the higher speed rated tires. As a result, wear on the V, W, and Y-rated tire is rapid in comparison to the H. Hence the mileage differences on the warranty between the H and W ENVigor.

We will see what kind of life the Yokohama Avid ENVigor has to offer. My driving style is akin to a mad Italian who is late for work. Your experience with the V4s has me worried about my wallet.

New to this site

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site. I live in Colorado and just purchased the Parada Spec-X on the 18" stock rims of my '07 RDX. Hoping that they'll last longer then any other Yoko's I've had. I've owned the Parada Spec 2(went through 2 sets within a year due to camber kit wearing the inner tread fast), S.Drive (got about 30K, not that great), W.Drive(got about 2 snow seasons, not actually that good for snow at all) and General Exclaim UHP(longest lasting tire I've ever had in Colorado, ok tire in wet/dry weather, but not that good in snow). Owned the Spec 2's, and Generals on a 97 civic and the W & S's on 07 civic) YK520 (Acura '07 TL, not that great in snow) and when I bought my RDX it came with a set of Falken ZIEX ZE-502 (Not to bad in dry wet weather awful in snow). We'll see how the Spec-X do.

Falken??? So this is the 3rd set of tires?
Give us a report on the spec X. I have seen a few here in Oregon, but I don't know anyone with a set.

I'll let you know, I was suppose to get them monday but after the snow storm fedex has been behind discount tires said. Also, discount does competitive pricing.

Parada Spec-x

So the parada spec-x are so far not to bad imo. I'm acutually able to turn in snow again. Ride is decently quiet. But when it comes to packed snow with moved packed snow on top, it will slide till you get back on to the packed snow w/o pushed packed snow on top. Then it'll grip just fine again. On ice well it's ice, your going to slide unless you have studs on the tires. None the less when driving on snow or packed snow these are really good tires. I can almost drive like there was no snow. I bought these for my stock 18's. I also bought the certs from discount and total was about $925(ouch). I'll take them back off when the snow season is over and put the Falkens back on till they're gone. Hopefully the'yll last till next winter.

Just ordered a set of the Prada's, the tire dealer did not have any. Said they were on back order, but found some in California, they should be here Monday. That will set me back $830.00

If I ever get the money I want to move to the 19' rims and tires...

Drove the Yoko's in about one inch of snow today. Mediocre at best with one VSA flash. They did have good bite, but I think lower temps would negate that. Would love a good three inches with a 28 degree temp and an open parking lot to give them a real test.

I took my RDX up on Mt Hood lots last year to go skiing. I had no troubles at all. Never even had to put the chains on. Never really slipped with the stock tires. I am hoping to go skiing once I get the Yoko's on. The stock tires are to worn to take it up in the snow.

You mean Prada's. CBP is a rare color. You should join us for our spring meet (date to be announced).

That would be fun to meet some other RDX owners. I have met one from here. He wanted to hear my audio system. If I am not out riding my motorcycle, then I would be happy to be at the spring meet.

Just got back from getting the Prada's put on. Now comes the testing and see how they do. Might have to head up to the mountain and go skiing

Are the Pradas considered to be more of a performance tire than the Envigors? How do they compare to the OEMs?

I installed a set of Parada Spec-X on my 2007 RDX 18 months ago. I have nothing but GOOD things to say about them.

Yokohama calls the P(a)rada Spec-X a sport truck/SUV all-season tire. Tire rack also claims they are OEM on the 300 and Charger. Yoko offers a 5 yr Warranty but a lower UTQG than the Envigor which usually translates to better grip with a shorter lifespan .

I dropped by my Acura dealer to get some prices on tires today. Based on my budget and my short list from reviews and recommendations on this forum, it looks like I would be choosing from Yoko Paradas, Envigors or Dueler Alenzas. (The Michelins and Pirelli Neros are another $100 per tire.) I have dedicated winter tires so my focus is on an all-season with good, sporty handling but that's hopefully quieter and longer-lasting than the OEMs. Any advice based on my top three?

Love the Envigor. It is quiet and offers good predictable grip. You will save money ordering them on-line through the TireRack.

Update

All,
With a few hundred miles on the new Spec-X snow heavy water and slush they're still one of the best sets of tires I've put on my any of my vehicles. We'll just see how long they last. I never really had a good use of time with the parada's.

I am really loving the Spec-X so far and it is so much more quiet than the OEM tires.

I am considering purchasing a new 2011 RDX, and have read many concerns about the stiff ride and mediocre gas mileage. My question is whether I should ditch the OEM tires right away and purchase replacements? And how much better could be ride and mileage be if I did that?

What I am trying to figure out is whether I can spend an extra $800 and fix 2 of the major cons that the RDX seems to have. Thanks.

The OEM tires are fine if you live in dry climate with very little rain/wet snow. The OEM tires get a little noisy as you put on more miles on them. I live in the southwest and we usually get only 3 seasons a year (spring/summer/fall) with very little rain/snow. I kept the OEMs on my TSX and RDX until the end. I now have Conti DWS on the TSX and I have the same tire (back) ordered on Discount tire for the RDX.

Other than more highway driving, do all scheduled maint and keeping the boost down, there isn’t much you can do about the gas mileage. The gas I waste with the RDX, I make it up with the TSX.

Other than going to a 17" or 16" rim, there isn't a lot you can do about the ride (which I love).

Had a 2011 loaner last week. Drove like a champ. Made me realize how my suspension has softened. I think I will have new struts put in this summer to regain some of that stiffness. If you are doubting the RDX ride there is another option...Lexus RX-350 AWD. Nice ride for the price (but soft).

If you live anywhere north of the 45th parallel, you should have another set of wheels with dedicated snow tires.

i'm guessing the cost of new tires will not outweigh tire based mileage concerns...so you're down to ride quality.

test drive and feel it out.

...the stockers do start to suck in the wet very quickly, far sooner than they should.

I was actually hoping that a good set of rubber could 1) soften the ride quality even at the expense of handling, and 2) improve the mileage.

I had chains with me and could have put them on. I had no problems at all.
