How to replace driver side mirror

I have a 2005 RL and by dumb luck I smashed the driver side mirror . I have purchased another one and would like to replace myself (if possible). Anyone have directions on how to do this? Thanks... Sam

Now, do you have pics of how to take apart the rear deck (like changing out the rear sunshade)?

Not a problem. I'm not in a hurry to take apart the rear deck and attempt to "dynomat" it to reduce rattles.
Thanks for coming back to this though.

You can replace the glass without disassembling the mirror if only the glass is broken. Go to EBAY and search for ACURA RL DRIVER MIRROR GLASS. It's a much cheaper route and much easier to do.

My question is can simply tightening some screws fix the jiggly driverside mirror housing.

Anyone know if it's possible to replace regular glass side mirrors with electrochromatic side mirrors (the non-glare ones)?

I think the RL side mirrors are electrochromatic.

I wonder what year that changed, then, as my '05 doesn't that distinctive "blueish" look I associate with them.

Yes, when did that happen?

The only mirror that is electrochromatic (i.e., auto dimming) is the rear view mirror. The side mirrors are not, to my knowledge...certainly not in 06.

037, what have you got on your RRP 09?

Correct Chas...only the interior rear-view mirror is electrochromatic.

The side-view mirrors are heated, power & reverse tilt.

Some info from this aftermarket vendor:

"An Acura glass only side view mirror is made of 2.2mm 1st surface mirror properties. This mirror is actually translucent. Meaning that light will travel through and absorb the light from the car behind you at night. USA Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Code 571.111 require this mirror to absorb 40 to 60 percent of light and convex mirror with a specific bend. However during the day during, the mirror is 100% reflective."

Can someone give more detail on the heated mirror? To my knowledge, I do not recall a "heated mirror" button so does that mean there is a senser or does it turn on with the rear defroster fuction?

*sigh*

from page 155 of the 2006 RL manual:

The outside mirrors are heated to
remove fog and frost. With the
ignition switch in the ON (II)
position, turn on the heaters by
pressing the button. The indicator in
the button comes on as a reminder.
Press the button again to turn the
heaters off. Pressing this button also
turns the rear window defogger on
and off.

Heated mirrors is same as rear defroster button.
When you press the button for the rear defroster, the side mirrors also heat up.

According to autos.msn.com, the specs on the 2009 say "N/A" for exterior electrochromic mirrors, but "STD" on the interior (which we all know about). So apparently the RL still lacks this feature. It's not a big deal, but I like to drive with my side mirrors set to point out so as to cover some of my blind spots.

Thanks for the correction, maybe it's my tired eyes.

My 03 BMW 530i had all rear view mirrors electrochromatic with that distinctive blue hue. On the RL all the mirrors (interior and exterior) have sort of a yellow cast so I assumed (bad idea) they were the same with different technology.
BTW, the interior dimming is not as effective as the BMW; maybe it is defective?

I had the same inquiry after my post-tint addition. It seems to have “lost” it function or has lessened its dimming output. My suggestion would be to compare the side mirror lighting color vs. the rear mirror; if they are identical you might have a problem.
