2004 Acura TL Dash Fix - $200 - Looks Amazing!
Hi Everyone-
I had massive cracking on the dash of my 2004 Acura TL. I looked into replacing it, but that was going to cost about $3,000...not an option for me.
I ran across the following product online, Coverlay. It is a molded plastic piece that fits over your original dash that you secure with silicone. I highly recommend this product - easy to install and looks amazing - just like the original dash - for around $200.

Hope this helps!

At about 100K miles now, I don't even care if mine is cracked- I have a cover over mine (put it on when no cracks were present) and even though it's probably not cracked, I wouldn't sweat it if there was a crack or 2 (I'm so used to the cover look, it's fine for me). That's the great thing about having a high mileage car that's owned outright- it's not that you don't care about it but you don't worry about stuff like this.

My dash on my 08 type s started to crack 2 weeks ago. I'm only at 64k miles but this was a Florida car before I bought it. I called Acura corp, they took all the info down and then directed me to call my local Acura (Park Ave Acura NJ). After calling and visiting the service dept, I received a call the next day stating my out of pocket for a new dash installed would be $300. My car is going in on Thursday for the replacement.

Damn that sucks, fight it man!
It's strange, dash cracks seem to be a common problem but my 06 Base with 132k has no cracks whatsoever O.o Maybe because I live in the cool state of WA...

I called corporate today. Basically said go pound sand. They just gave me a reference number, asked few questions about the damage and how long i've had the car. Then said just take it into the dealership and they will give me a price. Everyone knows the dash will crack again in 4 or 5 yrs right? They didn't change the material.

Not sure if I ever shared here, but did on the Facebook group that was going on..
Listen up people from Puerto Rico..
Mine is an 08 and had the first gash pop up around last summer, second one popped up around a month after.. Car was out of warranty by year and millage..
Not many of these 08's had seen this happen even less in Puerto Rico.. I had leverage because I bought my car with 0 miles of the dealer floor and had also purchased a year before requesting the dash service a 2012 MDX.. So I went into the dealer using these as leverage. The quote was 1400 for the dash and $750 labor, they agreed to cover the dash cost and I would pay the labor.
I had always thought that I would pay up to 500 if needed to, just to get the new dash in..
I was able to negotiate to have the dealer assume half the cost of labor and I would pay the other half.. So I ended up paying $375..
This was in Acura de Ponce, I did not buy the TL nor the MDX at that dealer but it was closer to me than the other Acura dealer in PR (yes there are only two Acura dealers in PR)
Had the job done while I was already here in the states and the dealer did a pretty shitty job.. And cant do shit about it since I had it done while in the States and have the car ready to be shipped here afterwards so I saw all the flaws after getting to the Island and having only a week to arrange the shipping so no time to take back to the dealer..
While changing the dash the installers put a lot of pressure on the passenger seat which had some wear and ended ripping the bottom cushion, in addition the glove box does not align perfectly like it did before, I also have the iPod interface to control it from the steering wheel and they failed to reconnect it. Last but not least, the one that pisses me off the most is that it looks like they didn't fit it very well and it makes this annoying noise.. like a chirping sound..
I will be working on the car soon to bring it up to date and will look into fixing these flaws..
As a precaution I bought a sun shade for when its parked, also recently got the vent visors so I can park always with the windows a bit cracked open so it doesnt heat up so much inside..

I think these would be my greatest concerns about having my dash replaced if it needed it- as far as I know, mine is intact (is dash covered) but I'd hate to have additional damage, new rattles, my radio interface disconnected, or a torn seat as a result of inept technicians. That just sucks on so many levels. You're almost better off having the dash crack and covering it.

But it does piss me off that they did not take care while doing it..
I'd rather have these faults and correct them than having the dash all cracked up, it was going to get really bad since the two lines were almost going from the windshiel to the glovebox..

crack dashboard
I bought mine '05 model brand new on January '06, now has 66000 miles, at Rick Case Acura FT.lauderdale, FL. My car is always in the garage and when at work is park under parking garage. just notice it to day small crack on the driver side. Can you tell me the person you talk to at Rick Case dealer ship? did you call first or you go to the dealer. by the way Rick Case dealer is not in Pembroke Pine, the one in Pembroke Pines is Acura of South Florida. Please let me know which one, I really need help. Thank you very much and appreciate it.

Does anyone in this forum ever deal with Rick Case Acura of Ft.Lauderdale Florida concerning problem with Acura TL dashboard crack? If you do, please let me know who's the person you talk to. I just notice yesterday my '05 TL with 66000 miles, has crack where the air bag is.

Unfortunately, I just got off the phone with acura client relations, said full price out of Louisville was 1900, but good will price was 1200. My TL is a 2005, 110k miles. Dashboard is the only thing wrong with it too. Sad really that I dont think I'll be buying another Acura/Honda after owning multiple vehicles for more than 10 years.
They had the audacity to say 'We know its a known issue', then to call 1200 a warranty price is ridiculous.
If anyone wants to take it up the the ladder, an assistant vice president at Acura who sent me a follow up survey is on on twitter @chuckkendig

update:
After telling me that was all they could do, I went to twitter to copy chuck and @AcuraClientCare to publicly tell them I will not be supporting Acura/Honda again.
Today, I get an update from the case manager. It has been elevated and they can give me a better price. They asked me what my expectations are, I told them the same as others on this forum are receiving, referencing
SuperUnknown's,
After telling them that, they mentioned I may not get that low price because of my service history at an Acura dealership. I live 2 hours from the closest dealership, and actually drove 3 hours to purchase it certified. I can understand this argument if the part in question was 'serviceable' or neglected due to lack of service. Stay tuned.

An update on mine:
Crown Acura arranged a goodwill with Acura corporate to cover 85% of the parts and labor. Out of pocket was about $265.

update:
my final quote is 600. started at 2000, then 1200, then 600. Before this final quote, I told them I will pay 350 so it looks like they are losing a customer over 250 that has been supporting them for over 10 years.
Not sure if I'm doing it, but I'm sure my next car will not be an Acura. I hope everyone else has better luck than me.

I just purchased my 2007 Acura TL-S on the 12th of July. Before making the 8 hour drive to buy the car, I did as much research on the car as I could. One of the things I did was call the dealership to see what had previously been done to the car. Among the many things, one of the things he told me was that the dash pad had just recently been replaced and said that it would never crack again. Now a month after I have bought the car, I am already seeing lines around the airbag on the passenger side. With the lines already appearing around the airbag, I know that it will eventually crack again. I don't even understand how though, I keep this car in the garage constantly,I have put some stuff on the dash, and I also have been using a sunshade. So the car, since I have bought it, has not been exposed to the sun very much. So do y'all think the dealership that replaced it will cover the cost if it cracks again? I know my local dealership won't do anything because I have an 04 TL previously and of course the dash was cracked on it and called Acura of Memphis and somebody there told me in all of their years if working for Acura I was the first case of cracked dash he had heard of(this was in 2013) so I do not have much hope that will be of any help to me. I wouldn't mind driving the 8 hours to the dealership that did it, if they would replace it for free but it seems like it's hit or miss with these dealerships. Should I go ahead and call them and ask them if it cracks again, will they replace it for free since they stated it would never crack again?

So, even though my car is way out of warranty, they will not even think about fixing the dash even though the split started right down the edge of the EXACT opening spot for the passenger side dash airbag opening?

Just ordered my Coverlay dash cover from RockAuto in Dark Gray ($180 w/ shipping). I'm hoping it is close to the stock dash color.

2004 TL, 146k miles, second owner (7 years/110K miles), and my dash is now cracking. I have the infamous crack on the left side of the dash airbag. I also have several cracks forming along the textured, inlay area around the instrument panel.
Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I've since been reading through this entire thread and feel everyone's disappointment with this manufacturing/design defect.
I live in Southern California and I'm going to take my TL into a nearby dealer as soon as I can. I will let everyone know if I receive any "goodwill."
