wifi possibilities

What kind of potential does having WiFi in our Nav system have?
limitless.. provided we can boot to a standard explorer shell and not just navi.exe

- communicate from nav to nav system
- get on web to check whatever
- wardriving
- instant messaging!
- transferring files to/from flash and from dvd

etc.

oh something really neat would be somehow interfacing your radar detector to the nav system and using a high-speed cell data card instead of wifi to communicate back to a server the location of radar traps

then other tl users with the setup could download and you could say "display pigs!" and your lovely nav system would say "now display pigs" and presto radar traps appear

ok now im getting absurd but its late and im learning as much about windows ce, sh4 architecture, and the alpine hardware as possible

anyone know which ver of win ce the nav systems run? and how about the location of any emulators that support applications compiled for sh4 architecture?

What up boys,

I'm from V6P, I had to sign up just to thank bysin for his work, this was definitely ingenious, good work dude.

I wanted to confirm that it works on my 2003 Honda Accord Coupe. I am, however, having the same problem as Iceman and a couple other users with that 5 second black screen lag. The problem with that also is, the music for example doesn't come on til that splash screen comes up.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm using the Matrix one by the way, and the file size is the same as original, so kinda confused.

I know I will for sure be contributing a few dollars for bysin's hard work, I hope others who are using his hack do the same, keep up the work man, peace.

I'm working on updated versions.. Hopefully in the future you all can use your navis as fully-fuctional windows ce desktops.

Also, can you post some links to documention on the SH-4 assembly language that you have found most helpful. Are there any detailed specification on what type of hardware is in the Acura TSX audio/climate/navi unit.

Nah I'm sorry, that JDM honda background was actually made by honda for the accord. You'd have to ask them.

This is definitely a very cool mod and the fact that it works on TSXs as well as TLs (my 3rd gen worked great) is very neat.

Of course, this project has a LOT more potential than changing the startup screen and that's what makes it truly exciting.

We could start developing custom apps for the CE platform and the potential is limitless!

Of course, the nag-screen would be a great place to start. :P

Thank you!

First of all, bysin, you rule. Second of all, you rule. Third of all...

I've used your tool to change the background so far, and it worked great. Only snag so far is that I'm getting a few seconds of black screen at startup. Hopefully you can address that at some point, although I would trade it for no nag

Is there any sort of paypal set up for this, or a way I can send you a check? I'd like to make a small donation for your time. Hell, I'll buy you a stack of CD-Rs if you want and have them shipped to you.

Thanks again!

i noticed a longer delay in mine this morning at startup, maybe 10 seconds? i dont know why, but i pressed version/load disc and reloaded the software as i drove to work today. ill probably just go and put the new screen back because it looked so kick ass. anyone know the cause for the longer delay?

bysin allowed for larger file sizes for the startup screens. Larger file = delay.

If you want to avoid that, keep it around or under 113K (I think that was the size), or just take a look at the orginal back.bmp.

what joerockt said above ^^^^ re increased file size.

If you read bysin's post(s) he stated he's working on addressing the file size issue

re donation: were you not on his download page where there is a link to do just that ?????

Was that the start of the nag message or the "OK" Button?

When I load my TL's navi.exe, the message starts at 00455C54. I'm really curious if the navi.exe versions are different.

Thanks

OK, I'm going to do this even though I feel really bad doing it. I've scoured the net looking for IDA (or an equivalent FREEWARE SH4 disassembler) but have only found the demo version of IDA which supports only x86 processors. Could someone PM a source for an SH4-enabled version of IDA? Please?

Navigation System Mods Brainstorm ...

No Nag, Startup Screens, Startup Sounds? !

would be cool if we could put a flash-card reader in the PCMCIA slot and then use it to play media files MP3/MPEG4 on a high capacity memory card.

Or how about a way to replace the voice feedback with something more interesting (sexy celebrity voices).

WiFi access would be pretty cool too. I don't know about the technical side of this but Since the nav system has access to the microphone and speaker, could the TL (bluetooth phone with a bluetooth PCMCIA card)/sun orientation HVAC, or even RL features traffic info (where does it get the traffic data from ?). Could you just run code from the TL or RL system on the TSX ?

Ubercool would be to tie the hondata monitor program from the ECU back into the screen with some kind of cool 3Dstyle performance graph.

Possibilities seem endless.

Any ideas on the specs. of the Nav/Computer ?

Talking Awesome Job Bysin!

I own an '03 Honda Accord and an '04 TL, both with navigation. This hack works on both of them. Thank You. The community owes you a huge debt for opening up all of the possibilities.

I have been looking for a disassember for SH4, does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations?

i like the idea of using a brochure shot. I've been racking my brain for a couple days now for something that wouldn't look tacky, and of course as an anal graphic design person I've made a dozen and trashed them. I think i might use one of those shots as well, or go minimal with white text on black with some light shadow

Just a thought, it could be possible to only place a subset of the maps included on the DVDs on a disc and use the remaining space for other types of files (MP3, MPG4, Software). I'm not at all familiar with the formats of the maps and other POI data, but seems like it could have possibilities. If you happen to need an expanded map set, you could put back in the original DVD. Most people have DVD burners these days, and for those that don't, can get them under $50 these days.

Startup sounds would be a cool idea. What sounds clips you guys thinking of using? I imagine you could really freak out some of the acura employees when you take in your car for maintenance.

I also think it would be amazingly cool if I could use the BT internet access in my Treo 650, to have a way of displaying my email, traffic updates (http://maps.yahoo.com/traffic), satellite imagery (http://maps.google.com) on the LCD screen.

Over on the TL forums, a few people have tried to burn a copy of the DVD (it's a DVD-9 dual layer) and have been unsuccesful. Unfortunately, to remove map data and have fancy things that are more runtime going on, we'd have to LEAVE our burned DVD in the drive and they haven't been succesful in doing that. If someone has a method to do it, please let me know. Up to now, we weren't able to make backups of the Navi disc as a permanent replacement. Uploading the BIN file which stays in the navi system's ROM isn't a problem cuz the disc doesn't need to stay in.
