+1 for Gnuts's post. If the welds and overhang inside the collector flange look fugly and restrictive you can go ahead an clean that up. USE CAUTION, you can easily remove too much, leaving the collector joint welds prone to premature failure. I'd recommend reinforcing the welds regardless of whether or not you're grinding on them.

OK thanks guys I had a welding teacher in college that is going to take a look at the welds and possibly go ahead and polish them for me. Thank for the advise.

Brandon like Gnuts and other have stated you don't really port and polish header. The welding that others and my self are talking about takes place inside of the flanges at the collectors. The flanges where the header meets the head is not as critical just make sure you have good weld and no unobstructed flow, but the flange opening and the runner opening does not need to be the same size(same reason you don't port match the exhaust side of the head). The flanges where the upper headers connect to the j-pipe is typically where you will spend most of your time (look at post #142) you want good smooth transitions, but be careful you can F*** up a good set of headers real fast if you get carried away.

I would also like to know if the new header design fits the 6 speed mount?

Brandon when you say polish do you mean polish the outside for looks or the inside? Like we've said polishing anything on the inside is a complete waste of time and money.

I really can't wait to get these. Headers are like the one mod you need before anything else even makes sense.

I was referring to polishing the inside just have a better air flow but, after talking to my uncle who usually help me with things on my car he said the same thing and not to worry about it. I have the pic on FB is there a way I can upload them from there?

Im just waiting on my uncle to get the chance to help me with it since I don't have all the tool.
I have read the DIY's for installing headers. Does anyone have any other advise that has done it before. I have seen that is easier to get the rear header in through the top and also through the bottom so idk

So an update. I brought my car into a shop to get it installed.
It fits. I was told it was a really tight fit.
I replaced all the nuts and bolts with stronger ones and I got him to reuse my stock gaskets
I don't really notice it being any louder... I have the CT axleback with a CAI installed too. Sounds almost the same as before headers

now to see how long they last before they crack....

If you still have a cat installed you would not notice much change. Could you tell any difference in power??

The throttle definitely feels more responsive and the car feels quicker than it used to.

when i did my headers the car had noticable throttle response increase and did not sound louder per se but it def sounded throatier... deeper vroom vroom for sure... when i took the car back out for a spin it was NOTICEABLY different. to the point i would never own a cl without having headers. this is with the stock cat converter.

2 years later i got the XLR8 300 cell high flow cat... and it made the car a lil raspy between 32-4000rpm... but its definitely even faster top end than without the stock cat.... i presume i lost some low end tq tho... but i don't give a FAK cause we all want the beast to scream when we give it the beans..

straight up tho.. the headers we more noticeable in every way than all my other mods... ud pulley, power steering pulley, tb spacer, termal gaskets, p2r plenums, intake, ct mufflers, high flow cat.

PERSONALLY i think the HFC is overrated now that I have one i can state my opinion. however i will mention that the car will still pass emissions with the high flow cat installed... with the sniffer up the tail pipes... so don't let that deter you... i just had to have it cause that was the last bolt on mod there was left for my car.

when i dynoed my car it got 229whp on an auto and that's with the stock cat, no power steering ud pulley and 2 holes in my mufflers.

our mufflers are PRONED to rot cause they have no hole drilled in the to alleviate moisture build up which i presume makes them rott.. between the car and the top of the muffler where u cannot see, u must feel..

when i took off my mufflers to put on the CT i was blown away that for 2 years i had been driving my baby with botched mufflers..... no wonder it sounded g35 ish.

Thanks guys. I just got my j35a3 up on the stand I will be doing headers when I drop it in so there will be a power increase either way.

I'm confused, are they still $140? Or more?

I see on ebay they have these;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-2-1-Racing-Sport-Manifold-Exhaust-Header-for-Acura-01-03-CL-TL-Tpye-S-3-2L-V6-/390494527883?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5aeb49a18b&vxp=mtr
But someone in this thread linked these which are much more money:
http://xs-power.com/acura-honda-nonturbo-headers-2.htm

I have an automatic so I don't need the extra bend for the six speed, can anyone confirm which ones I should buy?

if you have an auto, get some DC headers. The quality of the ebay headers are questionable. Also you could look in the black market section here for someone selling some used headers.

I know this a thread for headers but when I ordered my XS headers I noticed they also sell a catback for our cars. I was wondering if anyone has tried this. The price is very reasonable but I do not know how the quality would be.

Sorry meant to include the link. I have emailed them because on the site it does not state the diameter of the exhaust.

So, a lil update.
So after installing the headers, I decided to take advantage of the XLR8 motor mount deal awhile back.

after installing the motor mounts, there wasn't enough clearance for the rear header. It ended up hitting the rear mounting bracket every time I accelerated.

I had to get the bracket grinded down a bit to create more clearance.

Run's fine now

no problems with the headers in terms of leaks or cracks so far.

ya i saw that one. It doesn't say if it's for an accord sedan or coupe which i think would matter wouldn't it? Either way it's cheap and probably wouldn't require that much modification to fit. Hope it's 3" but doubt it. There is a 3" for an integra though

No, it's just funny they offer a 3" exhaust for a 4cyl and not a 6.

That is funny, I would guest that it would be 2.5' to match the collector on the header. I don't see a real advantage to using a 3" cat back with a 2.5" collector.

When he says big, he's talking about a 30hp increase and peak power moves up 500 rpm in the powerband... about 12% increase in power. you will definately notifce it when the engine revs up while you are WOT

IMHO messing around with the rest of the exhaust is pointless...

I am 12 years and 130K on original exhaust with no rot or other issues other than the black paint finally starting to wear off....

I would guess that if you make lots of short trips where the car does not get up to temp for a long time, then you might have issues....

There is not much point in running a cat back that is larger diameter then the collector of the header.

Earlier this week I tried ordering the XS headers from
http://www.ssautochrome.com/search.i...cura+v6+header

I received a refund 2 days later with no explanation. So I ordered again from
http://xs-power.com/acura-honda-exhaust-catbacks-2.htm

I received a refund 2 hours late and then I received this email:
-----------------------------------
On Thursday, February 13, 2014 4:29 PM, XS-Power Account <xs-power@ssautochrome.com> wrote:
order has been REFUNDED as delay of 14 days

My apology
Manuyfacturer is almost done.

Thanks

http://xs-power.com/
http://ssautochrome.com/
-----------------------------------

Am I missing something? Are there any other options for new headers for my CLS6?

I guess they are making a new batch, I wish I could find the manufacturer and purchase the header directly from the source. Does anyone have connections to factories in China? lol

Would it be a good idea to throw these straight onto my car without worrying about touching up the welds? Obviously I'd lose out in the long term, but short term I'd be okay, correct? I mean they're not going to start leaking or anything?

I would be interested if someone besides Comptech made CARB compliant headers... It sucked taking my XS Power headers off. Could definitely tell the difference in power. And for how inexpensive they were, I had no issues with them for the 7-8 years they were on my car. Any non California people looking for 6sp headers let me know.

Yeah I am looking for some headers and checked out the link to these. They were 260$ (Im AT) Are these the right ones with a raised price? I don't know enough about the sizing and what not as i read through this and am really confused. But im looking to redo my exhaust here in the spring if it ever stops raining/snowing. What do i want, as far as sizing goes for everything?

If you're auto get some DC headers. If you want to do the entire exhaust then get a shop to fab a 2.5" catback.

So I found a manufacture that possibly makes the headers for 6 speed cl's They look almost identical to the one for xs-power/ssauto. I asked for them to send me an actual image of the header. I have only seen the image they use to advertise.

I emailed them a couple days ago about pricing and it was cheaper than xs. But they will only ship to the US in bulk of 20 units. But I'm trying to get them to sell me a single set first them maybe order more if other want it.

They label the item to fit a honda accord v6 3.0L. Should fit a CLS6 I believe.

I'll keep the forum posted with new updates.

EDIT: here are the images they just sent me.

Oh cool, nice find. How much were they charging for 20?

Don't try to start a list for a group buy or anything, or the mods will delete the post.
