Just sand the curved part of the clear plastic that goes under the black plastic.

If you sand the middle part of the curve (right about where the LED goes) you might be able to stop the 'hot spot'.

Maybe you could just put a little paint in the same spot, since the rest of the clear plastic will be illuminated anyways.

Looks a little weird to me without the "D" before the numbers, well not weird just doesn't look like I'm used to I guess...

The numbers with D5, d4, and d3 look ghey to me...I actually like the new look.

i want one of these chrome plates without the leds, so does that mean the factory lighting will luminate the chrome indicator plate like the orginal shifter plate? If so i want one for a 2002 Acura CLS. The plate your selling is a chrome plated version of the silver factory plate right? Thanks as soon as get an answer i'll send you money.

I like the new layout as well (D4 vs 4). Also, any update on the color coding would be appricated.

Thanks

Just to make sure what your saying. Does this kit includes the chrome shift gate you have in the pic? IF not where can I obtain one of those?

The sale is for the shift gate indicator, not the gate beauty plate.

From what I know, this will just be for the LED and the Gate Indicator plate (i.e.: the black piece of plastic that is glued onto the clear light distributor under it), the P R N D5 D4 D3 2 1 letters/numbers that light up, not the trim piece around the shifter.

Update~!

So I spent a good amount of time yesterday hunting for red & green tape or transparent plastic sheets at a couple arts & crafts store as well as Walmart in hopes of using that to create a red glow for 'P' + 'N' and green glow for 'D.' Unforunately... no luck finding anything. Sorry to those who were anticipating for the multi-colored versions. But if anyone knows where I can find those... do let me know~

I have finished about 12 indicators so far... and the shipment of LED's just arrived earlier today so I can start packing & get them shipped out on Monday to the first 12 people who have paid. I'll also be making more tomorrow. Apologies for the slight delay ... Tomorrow I'll post exactly which 12 members are getting them on this first shipment.

Also, I've found a decent solution to the the hotspot problem. I applied 4 layers of Matte tape under just the letter 'D.' This helps diffuse the light much more evenly (you cannot see the tip of the bulb like before), although if you look closely, it still glows slightly brighter than the other letters. I did try wetsanding as OntarioTL suggested, but the results are very similar to the matte tape... so I thought the tape would be easier to apply (& add additional) for myself as well as other members who are bothered the initial hotspot.

This isn't hotspot related but I would like to let you guys know that I now clear coat all the indicators so that the paint wouldn't chip off as easily and it creates a nice finish.

One last thing, the prices of the indicators will be going up a bit on Tuesday ($17.50 and $20.00, respectively)... so those who are sitting on the fence... get it in the next 3 days! I will PM astroboy and update the first post of the thread with the new prices and some additional info (on hotspot semi-fix, new pictures, etc.) soon.

to clear soo many people's inqury:

The chrome shift gate is only available as a mod for '99 TL owners... long story short... Acura decided for production to paint over the chrome finish with silver paint which is in all other years but since the tranny was changed from 00 and on... the shift plate was revised along with it and has no chrome finish underneath the stock silver paint.

Ruby Red, 2.4 mil (0.06 mm) UPVC film tape with rubber adhesive. Is optically transparent and photographically opaque. Used for many lithographic stripping applications in the graphic arts industry.

3M makes about everything you could possibly need in the way of tapes.

the colors will bleed into the other letters.

p.s. they def make colored plastic. i worked with a lot of it for another car in which we wanted to turn the backlit display red without having to solder LEDs. it worked great. the material is used for lighting. you can normally buy small round pieces made for stage lighting. and they also sent me a ton of free sample sheets. just gotta search around.

I don't know if you ever took your shift gate indicator out, but all of the indicators are lite up by one bulb. There is a clear plastic piece that runs the length of all indicators (to include the + & -) that distributes the light from that one bulb to all of the other areas.
In order to use different LED's, one would have to make separate 'chambers' to house each LED and would be a pain in the ass as well as not very cost/time effective...

Therefore some sort of filter would be the best route to go.
Personally, if you didn't want to change the lettering/numbers you may be able to just remove the bottom filter (it's a green filter on the bottom layer) by cutting it off... Haven't done this, just said it may be possible...

I plan to mod the mod I get. LOL, I plan to take some of the colored plastic I linked to above and make my own color mod. I found the same stuff at a local art store for alot cheaper.

BTW, thanks for the heads up on shipping the items out.

Here's a pic of the bottom side of the shift gate indicator. You can see the clear plastic piece that distributes the light to all of the gear indicators.

You can see here that it is crooked on mine, which makes the 'P' dark on one side. I need to take it off and re-glue it on straight.

That green filter that is on there is the one I was saying that you could probably remove for a brighter indicator...

.

Is the LED a blade type with the resistor built into the blade?
In other words, is the LED a direct plug that fits in where the OEM bulb is or do you have to splice the wires and use an insert?

Just wondering, because I was doing this before and couldn't find the blade type led bulbs in any stores around here...

Nice, did you make them, buy them locally, or did you get it from an internet site? I know of a few that I can get them from (internet), but just curious as to where you got the lot from.

I have an 03 CL Type S and if you find a Chrom shift gate I would be interested (please pm me if so). However, that is not the topic of this thread.

I just got my kit in the mail today and I can confirm these are the blade type leds with no need for soldering / wiring resistors.

When I get free time (maybe this weekend but who knows!) I'll install and post pictures. At the moment I am going to install the blue until I get time to cut out the filters for the other colors but I bought a white LED also so when I get that in place I can goto white + filtered colors.

Just FYI

Thanks again for the prompt shipping!

Quick Reply: 2G TL/CL custom LED shift gate indicator Groupbuy SOLD OUT, thanks for looking!
