ok i heard some people talking about building some via search, but no hard facts. Does anyone here have a custom build one thats works good? i wouldent want to spend much to make my own

^PVC piping looks way too ghetto. But, removing that huge intake resonator sure does add a nice little subtle grunt. Some people also sand down the inside of the intake housing, but I don't know if that's all that necessary.

just pull the intake resonator box off- that opens the 2 large holes on air filter box bottem-- to the large airspace inside the fenderwell
There are drains on the lower bottem plastic so it drains no prob
Its better than a cai in deep water~ inlets are way high up
Its better than a short ram because fender air is outside air temp, not engine compartment temp
If you have an early year with fake foglight cutout- remove the cutout on driver side to make a nice opening there, air gets in anyway- you are just trying to help it
K&N filter suggested with this mod for best results, otherwise its free

I used 3" aluminized tubing from JC Whitney, 3" rubber tubing couplers and a 3" exhaust hanger to mount it to the car.

if it runs to the front of the car it serves a purpose, a bit better than in the fenderwell- but the fenderwell has its advantages of large cubic foot of air storage the intake draws direct thru the stock box and filer area, vs a 4 inch tube air has to get thru and goes thru heated engine compartment
If you live where the streets are currently flooded- its a danger thats very real to have a front inlet low on the car

I got a very simple, very inexpensive CAI/SRI combo by buying one of the cheapo kits off eBay for like $30-40 I think, and then got a K&N cone from Autozone to replace the POS filter that came with the kit. Was pretty cheap there. Made a very effective SRI. Some of those eBay kits come with two-piece intake pipe so you can choose either CAI or SRI, which some ppl don't like, but I liked. A pipe is pipe (to a certain degree); the important component in these kits is the filter cone. If you buy an el-cheapo kit, def replace the filter with something quality.
