Type S Chrome Grill Color
How come some are silver in color and some are more of a dark chrome? Anyone ever notice that? Or is that just light playing tricks on the eye from diff angles?

They aren't. All Type S's come with your regular chrome trim. Acura likes to call their chrome trim packages "black chrome", but there is nothing black or different about the color than regular chrome.
If your seeing variations in the color of the chrome it's simply lighting conditions or from whatever is in the background reflecting off the chrome.
I mean, I guess I don't technically have proof for you, but every Type s I have ever seen has plain old chrome trim. And every Type S I have owned as well, which is sort of a lot of them haha.
Also just thought of something, are you sure your not looking at base models? Those all have silver trim, and the Type S came with chrome.

The reason that the top hood piece may look silver is because im standing directly above the car and your probably seeing the reflection of the thin layer of gray clouds that day. I can assure you though that all the trim on my TLS is 100% stock and as chrome as it gets :-)

What exactly do you guys mean by "dark chrome" as I have never seen an Acura come with dark chrome. I know some Toyota and Lexus vehicles use a black chrome on their emblems on Platinum series cars and stuff. It would actually be pretty cool to see the OEM Type S chrome trim done in with black chrome finish. Could look pretty cool, especially with all the other "smoked" color features of the Type S....black headlights, dark gray wheels, smoked tail light frames and rear marker lights etc etc.

^ That's what I talked about in a thread I made today, I've just been looking for the right paint that would be reliable. Everyone's got color matched or flat black etc :T

I could be wrong but I think I remember a thread on this site where a guy "black chromed" his emblems and turned out pretty nicely. I haven't researched the stuff, but apparently there is a product that does this. If successful and turns out good, this could be a very nice upgrade and change from the usual flat black and plastidip everyone and their mother is doing now. Changes it up, but keeps it classy at the same time.

^ Acura called them dark/black chrome but they really aren't that dark.
The Lexus picture you posted is painted. Its called Shadow Chrome. Sold at Autozone, Oreilly, Advance Auto Parts, Ebay, etc.
Its a 2 step process. I went ahead and tried it out; so I remove the plasti dip and yes that was the color I was looking for.

Doesn't HeelToe offer black chrome emblems? I thought I saw a thread about that. Could be wrong.

Black chrome emblems
As for black chrome paint, best bet is some gun metal paint and a lot of prep/polish work

That thread is almost 5 years old and only has one photo left in it.
Time for an update.
Note I didn't search for other threads on painting emblems, since my intent here was to figure out if we had different shades from factory. But might as well cover the latest paints / processes to DIY, or link an up to date thread if someone knows it?
The color /shade in JTS97Z28's photo that I posted above would be sweet.

In every case I've seen for a DIY black chrome finish, a regular chrome/polished finish is already in place, then gets tinted to that darker shade. I have yet to find the black chrome in a rattle can.

I hear ya. I guess it's as simple or complicated as finding the right product (paint) and following it's directions. For someone like me who never paints emblems questions like do I need to sand the emblem before, do I need a primer and clear coat etc can probably find out with a few good google searches.

A (very) light vinyl tint applied to the grill will accomplish what you guys are looking for.
