I'm going to take the serpentine belt off and verify that the noise is in fact either the belt, a pulley, or a tensioner and not the timing belt auto tensioner. That would be catastrophic.

14MM to push back tensioner, remove belt, then tensioner is held with 2 bolts, IIRC. It's been a while.
Thank you, so it sounds like the tensioner is spring loaded and that I don't have to manually tighten the tensioner after installing?

An hour passed and I drove to autozone to pick up some belt dressing. Upon opening the hood, this was worse that a typical dry squeaky belt. It almost sounds like sandpaper getting rubbed across cement. It worries me that either a pulley or tensioner is bad, especially if it's the alternator pulley because I will have to replace the whole thing.

Thanks Azine.
I had a weird sound, I though my crank bearings were grinding. Replaced serpentine belt, problem solved.

I just replaced the belt.

Good luck searching anything on A-Z. Start with the belt, its a cheaper throw parts at it solution.

You can use a long screwdriver while motor is running and stick handle end into 1 ear and tap the other end on a piece of metal as close to the moving part as possible without touching a moving part. I have an automotive stethoscope that I use. You will hear a smoother noise and a nasty grind if the pulley is bad.
Good for checking alternators but works on all pulleys.

This would kinda work but unless you can spin them as fast as the motor it will be hard to tell unless your pulley is straight fucked.

Again I would start with a belt.

I have had opposite luck, I prefer fedex where possible. It helps I know the drivers maybe.

It's not the belt on our cars...the auto tensioner keep it from ever being the problem. If tension is it, it's the tensioner. If pulley is it...it's the tensioner.

If I ever need a stockade though, I'll call you, ya bastid. If I DID have an automotive stethoscope I can tell you what I'd want to hear on YOU.

I remember paying like $160 for my tensioner and belt. Something like that. It's one of those dynamite to kill an ant fixes but I didn't want to waste time fixing the wrong pulley or just the belt. Figured it was a wear and tear item...no regrets.

Sounds about right. 30.00 for a belt is common. I ordered mine with a few air filters and other stuff I needed to save shipping costs.
