Speedometer

Hey guys I have a 98 Acura rl and the speedometer isn't responding at all. I was thinking a bad gear in the cluster any ideas

They're electronic. There's a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on the transmission that feeds the ECU and speed-o. If the car is running right with no CEL's you may have a bad connection in the cluster itself. They have incandescence lights that heat up and cook the board. After years the board deteriorates and things loose connections. I have some gauge bulbs that go off & on and my tach doesn't work.
There is also two or three main connectors on the back of the cluster that can be flaky too.
