Clean Chrome Exhaust Tips

Clean Chrome Exhaust Tips
Anyone have a sure fire method to cleaning the black carbon (I think) from the Chrome exhaust tips? I have of course tried the normal car wash soap with a non abrasive cleaning pad, and while a little comes off, there seems to be three years worth caked in. I have ready some 0000 steel wool, and lots of elbow grease. Any other ways or chemicals to use. If I have to, I have to . Thanks

Before going too harsh, maybe try some wheel cleaner? It gets caked-on brake dust off in a jif, might work the same for the exhaust residue. Steel wool sounds like it might leave some scratches behind.

I just did mine not too long ago. Although its a tl, I imagine it should work the same. Use a can of Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish. It comes in a small can. Usually find it by other polishing compounds. Use something like a torn up tshirt. Be generous with the compound. I posted pics from when i did it.

Being lazy, I have wondered if EASY OFF oven cleaner would work, or would it damage the metal? anyone tried it?
I don't think the tips, at least on my 2009 RDX are actually chrome, but just polished stainless steel. I am not certain of that, but if not chrome, that is why the suggestions of various abrasive chems/ polishes/ steel wool would work - any abrasive will definitely damage actual chrome.
My RDX has 5 years of accumulated dirt/ carbon/ etc. and I really don't want to spend a couple of hours making them look *new*. I am certain that any of the cleaning threads for other vehicle exhaust tips would work - seen many of them - but I just want something *easy*. So will be watching this thread.
