Teh CL's.... CLS6

Hey guys, I rarely roam the second gen section but this should be a worthy introduction.

I just got my hands on a 03' CLS6 Silver on black for a whopping $2k, it has 300,000km or 180,000ish Miles. She needs some TLC & definitely worthy of a new life.. Here is a quick pic w/ my first gen..

Motor has had better days & I'm not gonna bother trying to revive it.. Here is a lil something for the mean time...

The J35 is the replacement motor for the CLS6..

Originally I bought the car with the idea of swapping my first gen but decided to revive the CL-S instead..

Should be fun..

The guy really didn't know what he had, exterior has some rough spots but the interior is flawless & I was planning on a new motor anyways..

Good thing I moved on it quick lol & not sure which headers are on it, pulling the motor tonight then ill find out.. Has koni yellows/H&R springs and a full 2.5" exhaust...

My plan is to just swap over the CL-S cams & misc 6 speed sensors to convert the J35 to a true 6 speed motor..

From my understanding, the J35a3 & J32a2 are nearly identical motors with the exception of block internally. The J35's cams are designed for torque seeing as it's out of an SUV. So by swapping over the cams and running the Type S ECU on the J35 as a true 6 speed motor the end result should be a 3.5 Type S..

Correct me if I'm wrong & the J35 also has the intake manifold spacer for the added TQ bump..

are the heads the same aside from cams? i thought the intake valves on the CL were 36mm vs 35 on the J35. You should port and polish the runners up and get a nice big TB and intake! Ported runners have seen great numbers on the accord.

From what I've read the valves aren't even a full mm in difference, aside from that and the cams I don't really see anything noticeably different..

I'm planning on a 09 TL IM/TB to help it breathe better & help with the hood clearance, then a fat 4" intake..

I'll def look into doing some porting/polishing cuz we all know these bad boys love to breathe

I just finished gasket matching some runners and a manifold I picked up for cheap from a junk yard. There is quite a bit of material to take off. If you have the chance, port the heads to match the runners. They can be opened up a ton!

Yes. If anything ever happens to my motor I'd be doing what you're doing and sell the blower. I'd bet we'll be close hp wise once you're done. We'll have to meet up.

Cars with 300k don't take too well to being taken apart...

With that said the J35 CLS6 lives.. Onto the pics...

How she started..

C'ya J32..

Let the fun begin..

6 speed harness/tranny..

Stripped..

This is the process of converting the J35 to a true 6 speed motor.

J32 timing gear, crank sensor & bracket..

J35 (Auto) timing gear & crank sensor..

J35 vs. J32

J35 with J32 6 speed crank sensor, harness, timing gear & bracket..

J35 & J32 Front cam gear, backing plate & sensors..

J35 with J32 6 speed front cam gear, backing plate, sensors/harness..

J35 ready to go with new timing belt, water pump, tensioner..

Learned some things along the way as well. The J35 water pipe isn't in the same spot as the J32..

Fix: 01'-02' MDX heater hose w/ connector from the plumbing isle.. ..it works & yes both sides have hose clamps..

J35 6 Speed sneak peak...

...Oh and FUCK axle nuts...

More to come..

That rear head looks like you salvaged it from the ocean..

Also, it looks like the filter housing / vtec solenoid had a leak at some point. Was going to suggest replacing the gasket / screen while it's out, but keep an eye on it in case it starts leaking again.

Has anyone ever fucked around with the oil pressure switch? I can't figure out how to disconnect the sensor to save my life. Some insight would be greatly appreciated..

CL.. looks like a molded butt connector. It almost looks like it's clipped on, but I think it's only being held in by pressure. Just grab the top of the connector and work it off the sensor.

So the motor is leaking oil from the oil pump area.. Thought it was the oil pressure switch since I swapped the sensor from the other motor & didn't use liquid gasket when I installed it. I re-did the sensor with liquid gasket & torqued it plus I replace the vtec solenoid/filter housing gasket while I was in there.... Still leaks

What else would cause this leak? Oil pump? Cracked block?...

Any insight would be appreciated

So after days of searching for this damn oil leak I determined it was coming from where the oil pump mates to the block. Which means I have to rip it all apart to remove the oil pump to see exactly where its coming from..

While I'm in there I'm replacing every damn gasket possible, should be fun

Teh... hell.. you have 2 accts.

Missed the previous post about your oil woes. I was going to say make sure you scrape clean the vtec solenoid gasket / screen area when installing the new one. I've heard of the pump leaking from another member, but I don't remember if that was the true culprit. Keep us updated.
