03 CL-S, 6 speed--what should I ask?

I am thinking about selling my 03 Cl-S..very presentable, well maintained, 118,000 miles. I stored the car during winters and used only for long road trips.Crimson/red. I am 3rd owner, since 2004. Trade in value is nearly nothing, any suggestions on how to find someone who would appreciate it, what should asking price be?

Thanks in advance

John

I'm no expert but I have watched these in the Midwest for awhile and bought one in Chicago last year. Lots of factors (tires, timing belt, maintain records, exact condition in/out, mods, etc) will affect the price. But I would suggest $7500 may be in the ballpark. I paid $6200 for mine which was stock with 125k miles in avg to above avg condition. I immediately spent about $1k on timing/wp and tires which helped with my negotiation - dealer's asking price was $8k.

As far as advertising I have sold many vehicles using the standard outlets (craigslist, cars.com, and autotrader). Wouldn't hurt to advertise it here on the BM as well. I have always done well but I price them fair and am patient for the right deal.

Ponto,

I did a quick auto trader scan of all CLs within 500 miles of Minneapolis: average was $6,000. Mine has lower than average mileage ( 118,000) and a 6 speed..but asking price is not the same as selling price..so it is hard to know what they really sell for.

I think something around $7,000 is a good starting point

Thanks again for your opinion

has the 105k mile TB/water pump service been done? if not, $6k at best, probably 6500 to 7000 if completed. lower than average miles, but still 120K miles isn't really low enough to be much of a factor.

But maybe $4,500 to $5,500 is a more realistic expectation..and a better starting point

With all due respect I think that's low unless you need to sell it fast. I suggest at least $6500. Around here 03 civics with 150k go for $4500-5000.

Ponto,

Thanks for your enthusiasm! I averaged private party values from 4 sources: $5200..with an average trade in of $4,000. If this is right, a good asking price might be $5,500.

The reality is that these prices are probably more accurate when a buyer has a few choices among similar cars, There aren't many of these, nor probably many interested buyers either. How do you price a fairly rare car with a small pool of buyers?

I am in Minneapolis, not so far from you, maybe I should advertise on Bettendorf Craigslist

Thanks again

John

crap man my friend got an 03 with 180K on it for $4500....

he was pissed when I got a 2003 Subaru Legacy with 62K on it for $3K from the same dude because he could not sell it.

His mechanic saying new engine needed. Turns out that Subaru boxer engines really don't get rod knock but they get piston slap (due to short piston skirts)... and Subaru are notorious for timing belt tensioner leaking and causing that knocking noise...
