DIY: Slim Wiper Blade Upgrade

I always wanted wiper arms that were slimmer at the mounting point that did not stick up on the windshield.

Noticed some new Honda/Acura vehicles now come with arms that mount from the side instead of the top like the CL.

Next step was to do some research and see what new models came with side mounting wipers and match them up to the CL lengths.

Did my research on Hondapartsunlimited.com.

Spent a good amount of time going through every car model looking at diagram pics to see if it was side or top mount. Then I just checked lengths to see if they match CL.

My research results

CL Wiper Lengths:

CL 600mm, 475mm

Side Mounted Wipers:

13 Accord 650mm, 475mm
08 TSX 650mm, 400mm
08 CRV 650mm, 425mm
08 Fit 600mm, 400mm

Based on that info I bought the 13 Accord Passenger Wiper and 08 Fit Driver Wiper.

Fit Wiper Part# 76620-SLN-A11
Accord Wiper Part# 76630-T2F-A01

Pic from driver seat with Rain-X Wipers.

New wiper comparison.

Few more pics.

Looks cool! Any performance benefits, or is it purely cosmetic/weight savings? Every wiper I've tried on my CL is streaky as crap so I might give this a try if it makes a difference. Dunno if I can get myself to pony up $50 on new wiper blades though, haha.

Brian, your car is awesome, BTW!

Thanks.

My seat is about 4" lower than oem seat is. I was just sick of seeing the wipers sticking up. I did notice they have that lip/edge on them that should act almost like a rear wing to help keep wipers pushed against the glass at high speed. My Rain-X wipers did not have that.

I am not sure yet about streaking. Will need to test them out.

My drivers side wiper blade would streak and I could never figure it out for the life of me. So I finally just bought a new arm and sure enough the spring was much stiffer and voila... Problem solved..

If I needed new arms I'd get these low profile ones tho.. Why not

Mine don't sit anywhere near as high up as your factory ones. They're not visible when off like the upgraded ones.

The before picture is with Rain -X wiper blades, not oem. Also keep in mind I took the picture sitting in a racing bucket seat that is 4" lower than OEM seat(different perspective). I might also be shorter than you. This might not be necessary with OEM seat and OEM wipers. Been so long since I had that setup.

Correct.

Just a tip some might like.

If you are like me and left wipers on for many years and have scratches on your windshield, regular glass polish will not remove them.

You need glass polish with Cerium Oxide in it. Bought mine from autogeek.net. Used random orbital with a glass polishing pad and this polish.

Nice tip. Did the polish leave your windshield like-new?

It removed all the scratches. It won't remove rock chips though. Looks close enough to new.

Hmm that should be good for those pesky acid rain/water spots as well

I think my normal, cheaper polish does that.
