2005 TSX - Hum when coasting in gear
Hello everyone -
I just joined the forum... I have browsing through for a few days now... thanks for all information I gained here. I apologize if this question was posted before (I didn't find it when I searched).
I bought a 2005 TSX MT a few days ago, primarily to be used as a commuter car. I have been noticing a buzz/hum around 2000/2500 rpm when I coast in gear. This appears to be more prominent in higher gears. As soon as I step on the gas the noise disappears. It also seems to be disappear at higher or lower rpm. Also, there is no noise when coasting in neutral. Is this normal? The car now has 56k, clutch was changed at 42k.
I never noticed this in my (very!) old car - a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I am still getting used the silky smooth gear box of the TSX -- the close-ratio will take some getting used to, it appears. Sometimes I am jumping gears 1-2-4-6, skipping 3 and 5.
So far I really like how the car drives - zippy, well balanced, taught steering and suspension.

still plays with cars
The noise you describe seems to be abnormal, however my 6-spd is beginning to make some slight noise in all gears at about 60,000 miles. It began life dead quiet. I would suggest a fresh fluid change with the factory Honda lube. Forget the throw-out bearing comment - it's not that.

Thanks for the replies! I found this thread which seems to describe the same problem:

rmjjensen - I believe this TSX has one of those bad clutches that wore out quickly - previous owner had that changed. I have to check if the noise goes away when I press clutch. I hope this is not a big issue
nbtx - yeah! - Gort! Klaatu barada nikto! Which fluid in particular? Someone mentioned resonator (https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=691896)- that sounds like a possibility. I just did an oil change at Honda dealer - made no difference whatever. As I observe more, it looks like slight noise is there whether coasting and not at 2000-2400 rpm in all gears. It is more pronounced when coasting.
