Saw these guys in person today. The M4 looks infinitely better in person than pictures. I was quite surprised. The proportions work.

I'm still a sedan person, and the M3 is f**king amazing looking. The rear is SO WIDE!

The more I look at the M3/4, the more I question whether I like the bottom corners. Those overlapping body parts kind of bug me.

Do blacked out grilles come as a factory option? I think I'd take my M3 that way if I can.

It's amazing the number of people that I've met recently that paid ~50k for their 328i.. I thought you were able to buy a M3 for 58k? Not anymore?

M3 can be had for 58k... used.

Would have to be bare bones to get one for 58k new when it was in production.

I paid $60k for my new M3 with some options and that included a 13% discount off sticker by doing European Delivery.

13% off US MSRP vs Euro invoice is apple vs orange. This is fooling yourself and others saying you saved 13%. Real US vs Euro delivery prices are much closer and after taking account flight, hotel, and food, you save very little if any at all.

And this was before M models came out of dealer allocations. Dealers are much more reluctant to sell Euro invoice + $xxx now.

Yeah, but then I see it as a free trip to Germany.

I knew about all that, though I didn't know it was US MSRP vs. Euro invoice...

Yes, it's a good way to get a free trip to Europe, but you shouldn't use it just to save money. You might come out ahead if you find a cheap flight and only stay 1 night in Germany to pick up the car.

True but was just using my case as an example on how hard it was to get a new M3 for $58k.

My case was a bit different as it was during the time the economy took a hit and people were afraid to fly due to the swine flu. My flight cost me under $500 at the time and hotel stay was dirt cheap. I just happen to get lucky.

Regardless the experience is well worth the price even if you have to pay Euro MSRP but it wasnt the point i was trying to make.

Good car, poor review. Too much tire squaking, not enough exhaust/engine note.

well when all the hyper exotics are going hybrid or turbo. Then that is going to be the reality from now on.

The review from Evo and Autocar and Carmagazine agree on the same point and main issue: the car is great, the engine noise is a shame... It's soundless... Without rage and heart.

Great review of the car and a great track to do it. I've been to Mid-Ohio a few times to watch races. I need to get out there one time with a car so I can see what it's like to drive around.

Its an awesome track. I was there a couple of years ago for a race and loved it. I grew up in Indy so its a bit different than the Speedway to say the least.

Post Sports Wagon Spied

Some info from here: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...agon-spy-shots

BMW is working on the mid-cycle update for its 3-Series, and we’ve already spotted prototypes for the updated version of the sedan. Now we have the first spy shots of some prototypes for the wagon, sold here as a 3-Series Sports Wagon.

Being a mid-cycle update, the changes to the styling will be minor. Look for new bumpers and tweaks to the lights for the exterior. Inside, new trim options and an updated interface should be among the changes.

Though yet to be confirmed, we hear the updated 3-Series will feature BMW’s new four- and six-cylinder engines based on the modular design first seen in the automaker’s B38 three-cylinder engine. The design calls for cylinders with a displacement of 0.5 liters, and the addition of fuel-injection, variable valve timing and turbocharging technologies.

A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine based on the modular design, the B48, features in the latest MINI Cooper and BMW 2-Series Active Tourer and will almost certainly appear in the updated 3-Series. A 3.0-liter six-cylinder is also planned and should feature in the updated 3-Series as well.

Along with the introduction of new engines, we may see the current 328i and 335i badges replaced by 330i and 340i badges, respectively. In addition, a new plug-in hybrid model should be launched. The updated 328d, meanwhile, should keep the current model’s engine.

Look for a debut of the updated 3-Series sometime in 2015. Sales should commence towards the end of that year or in early 2016.

I can't believe they're already doing a mid-cycle refresh already. Has it really been around that long? I guess it'll be 4 years.

I hate what BMW is doing with the 3 & 5 hood line

versus the old hood line with the propeller on the hood, not the body:
