Comparable cars to a 2008 Type-S?

Why not get the base and get Type-S tails? You could also try to find a A-Spec and I think she would like that even more than the Type-S. Plus...it's cheaper!

I literally chose my mom's latest vehicle, a 2013 GS 350 F sport. She had no involvement until it came to the day at the dealer for delivery, none whatsoever. I went into this challenge knowing she had no interest in being involved until delivery day and had an idea of what she liked. I checked out all the luxury brands within her budget and ultimately decided she would like the GS 350. Turns out she liked the car more than I thought and that is has Lexus reliability behind it as well compared to a couple headaches brands we've had in the past.
Your mom is basically telling you which car she likes. You're about to get it under budget and have some leftover for maintenance or some tasteful mods (I'm sure mom would like window tint) as well as a good sunshade. If you know that's the car she likes, then by all means go for it, seems like a good deal.

Can't wait to see what OP comes back with, yesterday was the last day of the month...
And that last day of the month business is spot on, I didn't ever work at a dealership myself, but my would-be brother in law from a long bygone relationship sold cars for a number of different dealerships, including Honda, and man the stories he'd come home with were awesome at times, but no doubt about it they would sometimes f'n GIVE cars away on the last day just to hit some incentive number or win an office pool etc etc

I personally would walk in un expected with your brother, cash in hand and find the salesman. tell him you really appreciate EVERYTHING he did and has done however you are going to have to pass on the deal. you are going to look elsewhere today (the day you stop by) and just wanted to come by and personally thank him as you feel bad! he will ask whats wrong and you will respond, we could only get 20K together and dont want to finance anything and need to have this deal done ASAP for your mother to have a car so you have to find something today. he will do a back and forth for a couple min and they will take the 20K no questions asked.

"Let me check with my manager" (doesn't check with anyone, only a 5 second pause) "Oh fuck yes we'll take 1000, if you'll come back here immediately... "
"Okay. Fair enough."

For the price you are willing to spend, have you considered the new Kia Optima or Hyundai Sonata? There is absolutely no denying they have stepped up their game and offer exceptional value for the money and reliability is on par or exceeding Honda now.
The 274HP turbo 2.0L is pretty nice - just with it was available with the manual in their bigger sedans.
THIS definitely. My parents traded in my 08 accord coupe I4 and an 04 TL for a 2014 sonata FULLY LOADED. Luckily me and my pops working for Pepsi, we got the limited tech package pretty much for free. It really is a beauty and great value and the drive is AMAZING! Although I find the Optima to look a little more sporty, but to each their own on that. Good luck with buying your mom a car! Much respect man!

Have you ran against the turbo Sonata? Maybe with your dad driving it? I've always wondered how the Optima/Sonata turbo does against a stock base 3G auto.

Interesting. I don't understand what working for Pepsi has anything to do with getting the limited tech package on the Sonata??
