Adding TL console for rear AC/heat ducts
Sometime in the middle of summer or winter people (the kids) complain about it is too hot or too cold the rear seats so I have to set the a/c or the heater to full speed and then is my turn to say it is too hot or too cold here.
So one day I was at the dealer and I saw a 2003 TL with the doors opened and I noticed it had two air vents for the rear seat. I started checking part numbers and I found out that the TL front and rear console have the same part number that the CL has, so I ordered the air duct (83410-S0K-A00) and the end of the rear console were the vents are (the part number depends on the color) and here is wha t I did.
First, I remove the negative cable from the battery (set the gear lever to neutral so it will be easier to take the front console off).
I removed the front and rear console.
I removed the radio and the A/C controls (Navi system).
There were wires everywhere and behind all these harnesses there is a cap (label UP) on the back so I just took it off, here is where the air duct is going to be connected. . Remember, you have to be careful making space for the air duct, too many connectors and wires specially the antenna cable if you do not pay attention you will push it back with the air duct and probably you will forget to put it back in the radio when you are assembling everything ( it is not that happened to me ).
There is a bracket that comes attached to the front console; this bracket will be replaced with one that is attached to the air duct.
After I connected the air duct and make sure everything is working I put the rear console back, the rear console has two ducts on each side where the air duct that I just installed slide in.
I almost forget, I changed the back of the rear console for the one that has the air vent, pretty easy 4 screws, by the way; I used the same pocket console (looks like an ashtray) that the rear console had.
In this picture you can see the rear console air ducts.
Here you can see both air ducts, so the front ducts have to slide in to the rear ducts.
I had to reset the SRS light because I turned the switch to on position to check the air output and the seats were off so I think that the reason for the light be on.
I am sorry I did not take too many pictures and also this is not the best write up you have seen either but it give you the idea.

i noticed the vents under the seats only work on full auto.. I think. would this be the same for the vents ur adding or would they work on more than one setting?
cause I found it odd the under seat vents don't work that well (are not nearly at full power) when u select the floor vents.

Thanks. I think I paid $25 for the air duct and may be around $30 for the rear vents, it will be cheaper in a junkyard as long you do not have to take the console a part.

I have a quick question, how can I edit my first poster? like if I want to add another picture.
When I posted it, it had the edit botton but now it only has the quote botton.

What I would do is copy everything you have in the original post, make your edits, post it as a reply in here and if you ask nicely a moderator might make the changes for you.

Remember, this wont work on the 6 speed. The center console cupholders are different and get in the way.

Hi
I am sorry but I could not find those pictures.
It is a time consuming job but it is easy( if you have the patience), I really enjoyed doing it and even better, no more it is too hot or too cold.
