Just bought an 08 TL with 55K miles. Love the car and now understand the passion that these cars invoke on all of us.

I have been reading up on the various maintenance posts and want to ensure that I have all of my bases covered. To date, the car has been maintained based upon Acura recommendations.

I am about to replace the two pressure sensors in the tranny (Thank you I hate cars). What other maintenance items would you all recommend beyond the standard schedule? Anything else before 100K?

along with the sensors, go with new fluid for the transmission!

And while you are at it, make the switch to synthetic tranny fluid and replace the tranny filter. Redline D4. I just did the switches, tranny fluid 3x drain and fill, filter and it smoothed my trans out quite a bit. Definitely worth it IMO.

Thanks for the info. My tranny fluid was replaced about 4K ago. As I said, I will be doing the sensors in a couple of days. I presume that I won't need to redo the fluid since it was just done. In other words, does it matter if the fluid was done before the sensors? And can the filter be replaced without a fluid replacement? If not, can this wait until the next time?

Did you use honda Z1? If yes, did you drain and refill the transmission 3 times or did you drain and refill once? If once, use the Redline/Amsoil fluid! The reason for the 3x3 is that the tranmission still holds quite a bit of fluid that doesn't drain out into the pan. The first time you change the fluid, 60% comes out so you have 60% new fluid. Then you do it again and you get that number up to around 85%. The third time gets that up to 95% new fluid.

The switches can be done without doing the fluid, you will loose a tiny bit so have some extra handy! The sames goes for the filter, you will loose some fluid, but nothing to much!

Great question. Just bought the car 2 weeks ago (55K miles) and was told that it had been serviced based upon Acura recommended schedule. So I really don't know how it has been serviced, but DO want to be proactive. Intuitively, I think it was well maintained. I went ahead and changed the oil and plan on doing the tranny fluid and sensors this weekend. Any recommendations?

If it has been serviced at a dealer you could contact them and pull the service history. Once you get the history post here and let us know. We could then advise on what you should do.

I thought the TL's did not have a tranny fliter! Am I wrong?

yes...they have a tranny filter. the m/t you can swap n change. the a/t you have to drop the tranny case to access it...n people don't change those.

what cars do you know of that don't have a transmission filter? just curious...

I don't know of any. Why don't they recommend ours to be changed?

bc it's a major pita to dissassemble everything n just too much work/time/effort, to swap out the filter.

don't worry about swapping out atf filters for your a/t. you're good.

Contacted the dealer who only shows oil changes & tire rotation/balances. I have already replaced the 2 tranny pressure sensors and a 3x3 fluid replacement. Anything else I need to do prior to 100K?

A change of brake fluid is required every 3 years, per the MID guidelines set out on page 2XX of the owner's manual, which is also available on-line by registering at http://owners.acura.com.

The cabin filter and air filter also need to be changed out at the "2" service interval, which may show up @ the 60K mark depending on your driving habits.
I'd change the air filters just as a matter of course, in case the "2" came up before you bought the car.

Hey soonermagic...I was just wondering the same!

After a year of searching I finally found an 07 TL-S 6spd recently with 50k miles. I just put on 3k since and was wondering exactly the same about what are some routine maintenance I should do (aside from an oil change now due). I thought this car was due for a 60k servicing, but dealer told me TL doesn't require it. I asked him if there was a service schedule I could follow and he just told me my MID will alert me of what to do and when. Is this really sufficient to just follow the MID?

Why change the two pressure sensors?

The '04-'06 have a replaceable trans filter. The TL-S does not. Not sure which trans the '07-'08 base models have.

Along with the switches, do Redline "racing" fluid. It will significantly extend trans life. If you do a full 3x3, you can safely extend the change interval out past 50,000 miles. If you have a replaceable filter, you could probably take it significantly past 50,000 miles.

If you're doing OEM Z1 I would do a single drain and fill each time you change the engine oil.

Replace brake fluid with Motul 5.1. It's cheap, much higher boiling point. Not the highest but it's cheap and it has much lower viscosity for better ABS operation and slightly shorter stopping distances.

I would do a drain and fill of the power steering reservior. I do a drain and fill once a year. Just stick a turkey baster in there to empty it and refill. If you do this once a year you should never have to do a complete flush down the road. OEM fluid or Amsoil only.

I also drain and fill the radiator every 2 years with OEM Honda fluid. The first time I drained mine when it was about a year old, a ton of sand came out, probably left over from the casting process of the heads and block. The second time much less came out. I would hate to think of having all that sand circulating around for 100,000 miles based on Honda's recommendation.
