02/03 tl-s ecu same?
i plan on replacing my 03 tl-s ecu soon because i believe it's partially fried (not getting ANY CEL codes when i know i should be). now.. would a 02 tl-s ecu fit onto an 03 tl-s? i heard the location of the ecu on 02 and 03 are different. also, would this be a direct plug and play swap? or would i have to get the new ecu reprogrammed to work with my keys? or can i simply swap the immobilizer chip over?

location: EXACT same; are you thinking about the OBDII/DLC plug, cause that is different, but has nothing to do with the ecu though, it is just longer wiring basically
plug-and-play: not totally, but very close to it though
reprogrammed: to work with your keys, yes (and iirc the immobilizer chip is soldered on to the circuit board, so not easy to swap over)
also you say you should be getting a CEL light, does the bulb/circuit work first of all? ie: when you first turn the key on fully, does it light up at all? maybe somebody put tape over it (also some codes will NOT turn on the light, but will store codes instead)

yes the bulb/circuit does work. it lights up once i turn the key to acc and goes away once i start the car. there is no tape blocking it up.. the CEL was working fine for me but ever since a mishap when installing my stock headers back on (i believe a couple short circuits with my alternator).. i haven't gotten any codes so far.. and there were several problems with my car after that in which im sure the cel shouldve came on but didnt.
and i've tried getting the codes read even without the CEL (just to check to see if other codes showed up) but still no codes.

go unplug a sensor (map sensor would be a good one, on top of the throttle body), then start the car, and see if the cel stays on when started (it should, since it is an immediate fault, since nothing would be plugged in, to that circuit/connector)
and you say a couple of shorts in your alternator possibly, i would probably look into that first, then condemning a ecu right away (maybe you shorted out the diodes inside the alternator, which is allowing AC voltage into DC circuits (won't normally set codes, but will cause some STRANGE ASS problems though)
also what sort of problems are we talking here, gotta be a little more specific
