Transmission problem
Hey guys, been having an issue with my 05 tl. Here's the story lol. On the way to dinner I accelerated pretty quickly. Made it to dinner and everything way fine. On the way home my car started having trouble shifting into other gears. For example it would rev the rpms up from 3rd to 4th gears.. It did this throughout most of the gears. I was able to get home in 3rd gear as it wouldn't shift into 4th. The next morning i went to test drive it. Started out fine but a couple minutes into the drive it started doing the same thing. At one point i was literally coasting down the street. Drive was not engaging. Pulled up to the stop sign and put it into park. Heard a loud click noise coming from underneath the hood when i put it into park. Turned the car off and started it back up. Put it into reverse and heard that noise again. Car didn't engage into reverse or drive. Sat there for a while, started the car up and got it to engage into 1st.. putted all the way home.
No clue what it could be. Sometimes it engages into drive/reverse sometimes it doesn't. When it does engage, it usually takes a couple minuets then starts the same thing over again... doesn't shift into the gears and revs the rpms and im left coasting down the street.
Please Help!
We checked the tranny fluid and it was fine.

Sounds like you need a new/rebuilt transmission.

is the fluid pinkish red or brown? If it's any other color your radiator may have failed mixing the ATF and coolant.
It sounds like your trans isn't building fluid pressure. If you have an 04-06 you might be able to change out the trans filter (hopefully that's the issue) and see if it helps.
Otherwise it seems like you are going to need a trans rebuild. Any sort of CEL or blinking D light on the dash?
