Was coming home tonight after hanging out with some buds from Capital RSX (DC Chapter of ClubRSX) and was at a red light with a BMW 5 series. The guy made an effort to dart around traffic to be first at the light so I knew it was a go ... I stupidly forgot to turn VSA off but I still chirped my tires at the line and he got a 1/2 car jump on me. However, it was all TL-S power after that ... I kept pulling and pulling past him until we got to the next red light (was about maybe 1.5 - 2 car lengths in front by that time) ... with a red civic who looked like he wanted to go too...

I guess I embarassed the BMW because he didn't give it a try again the next time. And if the civic gave it a try I didn't notice because he was behind me the entire time even though he started 1/2 a car in front of me (from rolling slowly into the intersection).

I'm not sure what BMW I raced, I only know it was a 5 series and the older 2003 and earlier Bimmers because it had angel eyes and it was too small to be a 7 series. I'm guessing it was a 525 or 530 because the 540 would have most likely kicked my butt!

was it a 525? 528? The TL has los more power than either. Of course you'd beat it.

It could have been a 540 as well. If it was, it was definitely an automatic though. Those things are about as fast as a stock TLS. But if you look at LiQuice's sig, his TLS is not quite stock. I've taken two auto 540s to 100mph before, and that's when I was stock. It's a close race but our cars are noticeably quicker to 100mph. Now I'm not the one to push past 100 on interstates, but I can only imagine how fast that v8 would be closing in on me after that mark. If it's a 540 manual (rare), it wouldn't even be close unless the TLS is modded heavily.

Unfortunately I was ahead of him the entire time in traffic ... he cut in and out of traffic to catch up to me at the light. I only saw his angel eyes behind me, and saw the car from the side ... So I couldn't really tell what it was, only that it was a 5 series. I'm assuming a 525/528/530 since I was able to take him so easily although vandy786 was saying its possible it was a 540 automatic... ... I'm doubting its a 540 though since he really didn't put up much of a fight ...

All I know is that I beat him

Angel Eyes for the 5 series came out in 2003 and they only made the 525 , 530 and 540.

Actually, angel eyes came to the E39 5 in MY 2001.

From 2001-2003 they sold the 525/530/540, but from 1997-2000 the E39 was available as a 528 or 540.
