My hood doesn't stay up anymore

It doesn't stay up by itself anymore. I think I need to replace hydraulic lifts or the hood shocks? Whichever one it is for our car. (02 TL-S) Where can I get them? The dealer charge as much as $200! Ridiculous! I bet it's mostly labor.

10 minute DIY
local parts store for 2 new hood stuts

careful of heavy duty ones which can rip the hood from your hands as it opens
good way to knock yourself out~

i like using amazon...
http://www.amazon.com/StrongArm-4160.../dp/B003NHF1TM

...or ebay. they are very easy to pop off. just make sure you have a helper holding the hood up. some have little clips on the end and some are screwed on. just look at it and you can figure it out.

That's fucking disgusting...

Dealers are just charging whatever they think they can get away with. They charged me $100 total for the same exact job. I saw the tech do it in EXACTLY 2 minutes. Trying to charge you $200? That's a 100% increase in price... How do they justify this shit?

shops have a MINIMUM charge time,,say 1 hour at 100$ an hour
or 1/2 hour plus parts = 100

like diagnostics charge, 1.5 hours = 150$ and they get to charge it even if problem found in 10 minutes--you agreed to 150 so they get to screw you

Ok thanks. Good price. Which one does ours use? In the picture I see like five different kinds. Just wondering because I would like to get the same one that came with the car.

That's just a generic picture they use on amazon. Just make sure it says 02 TL and they should send you the correct one.

Try www.acuraoemparts.com (Acura of Delray) or www.oemacuraparts.com (Acura of Peoria). You can get the exact Honda part, based on your VIN, for a good price.

I needed hood struts in my '02, and the independent shop that did the timing belt/plugs, etc. service installed the struts I purchased on-line for free...

You can buy them for $12 ea. on Rock Auto. They all work fine. Don't need to buy OEM for the hood supports.

Based on the pic, I would only need #13? (Stay Assy Hood Opener) I don't think I would need #21 which is the stud ball?

Pull the clip thing. I pointed to it with the red arrow.

It'll come right out. New one snaps into place the same way. 5 min job max.

Once I pull the clip, the bottom part will, I guess, slide off? Also would it require another person to help me out or I'll be fine doing it myself? Just curious.

The bottom has a clip just like the top. Do one side at a time using your shoulder to hold the hood or use a vise grips on the other one to lock the hood open while you replace it.
