So just got back from the gym and there was something waiting for me....

This will go in tomorrow with my summer rims+tire setup....when i put the summer setup on, I will weight the rims + tires and compare to my winter setup....adjust my itemized list

ALSO, all the stuff that comes out of the car will be for sale....so holla if you want something !!!

RB ET500 pads....bought em from Amazon.com....quick shipping and good price....ended up paying 160 for the setup (excluding taxes....fawkers charge tax in KS).....

Initial impressions:
Came packaged very very well....i have high hopes from them....i am switching to them from Hawk HPS...had them for 40K upfront and 80K in the rear....my driver side rear caliper seized up causing the rear pads to be SHOTTT.....using them with Powerslot Slotted Rotors

BTW Tim (Inaccurate) suggested i get these....so here they are !!!

Make sure that you break-in the pads properly (inducing severe fade and/or plumes of smoke).

I guess Brakemotive didn't get back to you on the pads?!?! Or he didn't carry these?
Anyway, great progress thread, man. A little disappointed you don't have a quick timeline of the visual mods on the car too...you know, "here is the car at the dealership 2 years ago" and all the pictures you've taken since. A la Tyler...

But overall, has a cool feel to it. Nice thread.

hahah.....yeah its a gonna be a busy day.....

1> lower the coilovers 3/4 on an inch (winter is over )
2> switch to summer rims + tires (am hoping these are not heavier than my stock setup )
3> brake pads (gotta dremel the tabs sticking out first)

then finally gotta arrange all the stuff i took out from the car in my apartment....i put the rear seats in my living room and wifey is not happy about that.....gotta put them in storage

then clean my car and snap some pix.....my neighbor who didnt have a car moved out....the new neighbor has a car and hence my carport is gone and she is getting plenty dirty !!!

Actually he did....well he didnt carry these pads....he was telling me he had good reviews of the Powerslot pads....but i decided to go with these....loved the enthusiasm Tim had about these.....

about the timeline....i did think about that dude.....and i just opened up an account with photoshop which allows you to share pix....so gotta upload em, edit em and share em....

so far the week has been crazy, but will get some time from tomorrow on and will post it up

Thanks for the suggestion Jer....

i skim through your thread and i believe no one gave u this idea, this is a pretty good thought.

get rid of your spare tire, jack, tools and get run flat tires. i recommend Michelin ZP (zero pressure) tires. Dunlop, goodyear and bridgestone all make runflats. GOOD LUCK, Good weight savings

Self-supporting run flat tires typically carry a 15% - 27% weight penalty over similar standard tires, or additional 2-3 kg (4-7 lb) (samples based on 225/45-17 tires).
yeah. that ends that.

a typical tyre is 13-15lb, depending on make and season. a run flat is about 5lb heavier, (example) spare tire and tools, jack is probably over 50 lbs. 20lbs saved

Yeah.... and, and, and

If you run Zero Pressure tires, you can save 32 pounds per tire by removing the air pressure (32 PSI). So, five tires (including the spare) would save 5 x 32 PSI = 192.8 pounds weight reductions. Awesome

Inacc, I think you accidentally hit red font there...

dave, if you are/were trying to actually be helpful...i apologize. your logic does make sense. although most that are hardcore enough to save weight and take things out, wouldn't even worry about the fact that they may get a flat one day.

Go over to the Corvette forums and see what a joke the stock PS2s are. Vette owners hate them.

Runflats are not only heavy, they have a harsher ride than other tires in the same category. The additional weight is better off in the trunk in the form of a spare tire than rotational mass. It's a safe assumption manufacturers use them to save space, not weight.

Best performance increase for summer use is tires. Nitto NT05s are pretty cheap if you shop around, outperform pretty much every street tire and are fairly light.

use run flat tires and save trunk weight, this is not a debate just a suggestion.

Alright fellas.....here is an update

Here is the weight loss itemized deduction (taken from Inacurate's list unless I mention my name next to it !!!)

Explanation for the following weight loss items:

11 Miscellaneous stuff in the trunk - swoosh
9 Rear floor mats, All season + Carpet - swoosh
5.5 Miscellaneous stuff in the Center Console - swoosh
4.5 Miscellaneous stuff in the Glove Box - swoosh

8 LBS Weight GAINED from switching the summer setup (i bet Inaccurate is laughing his ass offff LOL).....but yeah my winter setup weighed in at 47lbs and my summer setup is right at 48.9 lbs (prolly from the new tires).....but this setup will stay until the tires are gone or the setup is sold....am outta budget for new rim/tire setup !!!

When I weighed my car, I had couple things in the car:
Small Tool kit (in trunk)
Some Parts for the car (in trunk)
Couple CD's/Cassettes (in the center console)
Leather pouch with DVD-A's other manuals (in the Glove Box)

All this attributed to 21 lbs which is itemized above

I have the all season floor mats along with the carpet mats, since the rear is empty (now) I took both of them off and weight both together...it came to 9.03 lbs. and hence replaced this item in Inaccurates list with the right weight....

Here is the complete list !!!

STARTING POINT = 3626.8 LBS

New weight loss in BLUE

WEIGHT LOSS
44 Reduced fuel (buy just 3.0 gallons at a time)
36 Rear seat delete
34 Spare tire delete
23 Trunk panels

14 RV6 Precat delete
11 Miscellaneous stuff in the trunk - swoosh
9 Rear floor mats, All season + Carpet - swoosh
8.5 Seatbelts for rear seat

8 CAI
7.5 Front damper
7 UR crank pulley
6 Engine bay panels
6 Rear seat arm rest
5.5 Ground effect panels
5.5 Rear deck
5.5 Miscellaneous stuff in the Center Console - swoosh
4.5 Miscellaneous stuff in the Glove Box - swoosh
4 Reduced wiper fluid (use 1 pint at a time)
3.7 Rear seat insulation
3.5 Windshield washer reservoir (incl pint of water)

2.5 Innovative Engine Mounts
2.4 Owner manual
1.9 Rear Diffuser plastic panel

1.8 Hood Insulation
1.5 Trunk damper
1.2 Trunk panel over latch
1 Exhaust heat shield

8 from rims tires - GAINED
------------------------------------------------------------
250.5 Lbs TOTAL

ESTIMATED DYNAMIC WEIGHT REDUCTION
----------------------------------------------
105 Dynamic weight loss from UR Pulley
32 LBS gained from rims/tires
---------------------------------------------
73 Lbs DYNAMIC TOTAL

ESTIMATED WEIGHT
------------------------------------
3626.8 - 250.5 = 3376.3 Lbs. Static
3626.8 - 308.5 = 3318.3 Lbs. Dynamic

I will be posting the pix tomorrow !!!

while I was at it,

i replaced my blown sub with another one which i got from Rex (villo) couple months back (almost 6-7 months back).....now i hear it clean bleeedddyyyy bassss.....and people who are wondering about how does a sound system sound in a gutted car....FAWK DUDE, it sounds SICK....absolutely SICK (in a good way) !!!

slammed my front, i just left 3mm incase the suspension will adjust "settle down" while performing an alignment or some like that....

rear rings just wont budge so will let it be at 1" (25.4 mm) ride height....am planning to drop the rear a little less than the fronts to air aerodynamics ...front is at 4.5mm and rear will be ~9-10mm.....

another problem....i think something in my rear caliper is messed up.....its constantly pushing against my rotors and making a little/very little rubbing noise and generating a TON of heat....when i parked i cant feel the heat radiating from the rotor/caliper and the rim is getting hot as well.....need to troubleshoot this one

Thats is all for now folks

I will be back with some more savings

When I put on my new pads, my rear left caliper seized, causing the pad to constantly make contact with the rotor. At stop lights with my windows down I could smell the pad "baking". It smelled like an electrical fire.

Unfortunately the whole caliper had to be replaced.

^^^ I hate you Tyler....i do...you bring me bad news LOL....but yeah i know what you mean....i would smell the pads as well, I thought it was the grease which might have caught onto the rotor.....but guess i was wrong......

Well what exact part was replaced ??? was it the part with the piston or the part where the screws go in ??? or both

EDIT: I want to mention here pins 12 and 14 dont seem to push back as much as they used to....i heavily greased em up and put em back....will try replacing them first and then the caliper IF NEEDED !!!

this is the 1st expense on the car which is NON Maintenance ITEM.....@ 160K miles.....i love my car

It would be the two slider pins you mentioned plus the cage that holds the pad right in front of the pins in the picture. Unfortunately it looks like you can only buy the whole caliper.

By now you should be able to look at the pads and rotor to determine if it's just the outside or inside and outside. If it's just the outside it's the sliding mechanism. If it's both sides it's a frozen piston. If you find nothing out of the ordinary, check the e-brake shoes.

If the pad(s) are dragging all the time, the rotor should show evidence of excessive heat and the guilty pad should show signs of excessive wear and/or cracking.

Once you have the caliper off, you'll be able to see if it can slide on the pins and I can usually push the piston back in by hand.

If everything seems normal, take the rotor off and look at the e-brake shoes. If it's dragging there will be a ton of dust inside and there's very little shoe material anyway so it will likely be close to metal to metal.

^^^ well let me recap....

after 2 odd months i drove my car (fawking international work travel)....so am driving and everything is fine....all of a sudden i start hearing metal to metal contact and its loud....

come home, pop the wheel off and the pads are SHOTTT....check the other side, and the pads have plenty of life left....the 2 sliders pins were almost seized, had to break em free....popped those pins out, greased em and put everything back in....didnt fix anything....

the piston goes back in without a problem....am not as strong as you are, i use a $5 caliper tool and it does the job without excessive pressure....

am guessing either the piston is not going back in as it should, or the slider pins are not pushing the damn caliper as they should....

i can get the pins at:
http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no

for a total of 6 bucks....lets see how this goes.... :phew:

Sorry Anil, I had to go to the library on campus and submit a paper. I was there for almost an hour because I got distracted talking to people

As for the caliper debate, the piston was shot, so the whole assembly was replaced.

Best performance increase for summer use is tires. Nitto NT05s are pretty cheap if you shop around, outperform pretty much every street tire and are fairly light.
dunlop star specs are still the auto-x tire of choice right? they were barely ahead of the nitto's as far as i know. also, guys loved them because they can run them reverse to clean up the tread from camber and toe out like they like to run.

Hope you figure out your pad wearing, Anil!
Let us know what you find out when you swap out the pins.

I actually have a weird clunk noise I've recently developed...I'll have to check the 2 bolts holding the top of the strut. Tell me again why Acura decided our seats should be bolted in?

They're very close, the split seemed pretty even. The area the Nittos outperform them is in a heavy car like the TL on a road course where you're putting some serious heat into the tires, the Nittos do not give up and become like butter after a few laps. Obviously that's not important for a street driven only car. They were so close but at the time I tracked my car so I chose the Nitto. They're also quieter than the star specs but the star specs come with more tread so IMO it's personal choice.
