Wow really? I read that someone has done it in the past, and had a rasp, which is the only reason I decided not to do the whole thing with a straight pipe. If it is indeed rasp-free, I might have to get my magnaflow removed. Can someone else be a guineapig?

Deleted resonator + mid-muffler video

Gents and ladies, I was willing to be the guinea pig - I first removed the mid muffler a few months ago and decided to try removing the resonator as well coz I wanted to know how loud it could get/$ spent. Check out the short video I just put together less than 1.5 hrs ago. Sorry for the darkness but I had just finished washing my baby and decided to make the video since so many p'ple here have requested one and no one has put one up - if there is more interest I could make one during the day. I placed my camera to the left of the car just 2 feet from the rear bumper. There is a slight rasp btw bt 2.3k-2.5krpms. When the engine is started when cold its sounds awesome at abt 1.1k rpms then mellows down till you can barely hear it. On the 6MTs u can control the sound since I the amt of revs are to ur taste ...... it sounds nice, not very deep but throaty, louder than some G35s I've heard. This mod is most def not for everyone but for 50 bucks you cannot go wrong. Enjoy.

yeah that does sound a LOT like a V8. Almost too much for my taste. I don't see the G35 connection that ya'll was talking about though....

Wow, thats a pretty big change. I have the magnaflow resonator and it's a lot more mellow than that...more G35 orientated for sure! But listening to that, I kinda like the rasp, reminds me a lot of the M3 rasp. I would say this is a lot more M3 orientated, and the magnaflow is more G35 orientated.

Now that you mention it and after more thought, it does sound alot like the M3. The V8 sound is alot more louder, and quite frankly I've never throught it sounded like that. Hearing it in person would be best for those on the edge of doing the mod. But like I said its not for everyone. I like it though. I'll try make another sound clip when I start her this morning before I go to work, then I'll post it later

Wow, sounds like a totally different car. It doesnt even come close to the bolt on exhausts like Comptech. This should be what the Type S sounds like.

Sorry not trying to bag on the sound (to each their own), but it doesn't seem to fit the image of the TL. I'm down for a deeper sound, but when its poping and rasping like that it cheapens the TL's appearance. I think thats the appeal of the Comptech and hopefully the GHL are the deeper tones and sportier sound without making it sound like a modded Accord. Also it doesn't sound like a stock M3, more like a modded one..............when it comes to sound the G35 and FX have the lock on the best tone, and I hope the magnaflow will reflect that sound.

I'm with you here. To each his own, but that is DEFINITELY not the sound I want coming from my TL.

Sorry.

lembowski,
I got mine done at Dualtone muffler shop in Mission Bay/Pacific Beach. Its right off of the 5. it actually does have a little rasp. When i got home from getting it done, a guy that has a 06 TL asked me what i did to my car. I just told him i took off the mid and resonator. He really liked the sound on it.

So like you said, to each his own.

I got a UPS tracking # within 2hrs of purchase. Its coming from Michigan to CA UPS says tomorrow delivery. I hate UPS........for the same costs you can ship Priority through USPS.com in 3 days........

Sdiesel619 how much did they charge you for the job? I've got two quotes for $50 this weekend...........

What color is you TL? I always see a Black A-spec and a SSM with tint when I'm down in PB.

They charged me 30 for the job. A buddy of mine works there.

I actually live in Chula Vista, but I commute to Carlsbad. I dont have a A-spec kit or anything special but a wing spoiler. Dont want to do too much to the ride. Might become the wife's in a couple of years.

No the Magnaflow makes it a lot quieter and smooter, and refined. Definately TL status. But for some reason this guys exhaust note is appealing to me, if it was just a bit more refined in a way.

Well, after seeing how I brought so many TL's, my shop here in the valley told me that he can do $95 for the magnaflow resonator, and install included. He can have it to his shop in less than 2 hours, so for those who don't want to wait for it to be shipped, just PM me.

Thanks. They have good customer service. Ended up Magnaflow was supposed to drop ship it to me and they shipped it to the wrong place. They are shipping it 3 Day select. I should have it early next week. Let me know how yours sounds when you get it done this weekend.

Didn't see your post before I went, so if you want to here the before......go out to you car lay on the ground 10 feet behind the exhaust and have someone give it the gas.

On the sound a it doesn't do it justice in a parking garage or just sitting there. It does sound just like a g35 when taking off outside. Got it installed and tires rotated for $50

After driving around for the day. I would say just about right. If you have driven in a g35, its the same noise level as it. Once you reach highway speeds its un-noticable. City driving with windows down you can definately here it with low music volumn. I really like it! I will keep it like this until I get a comptech or GHL exhaust.

Thanks for the input. It does sound good in the video. In the video you can't see your stock exhaust tips. Did you remove them or paint them?

just bought a 06 tl 4 weeks ago brand new. after 1 week i had the mid muffler and stock resonator replaced with the magnaflow 10614. sounds good, after 300 miles give or take it got louder... the resonator was not in stock so it took about 2 hours to get in, and took another 15mins to put on and i was out. cost was $120 parts, and labor... Its called valley muffler in west covina.. now i am debating if i should just replace the stock piping with 2.5" mandrel bend piping from the resonator to the mufflers?
we shall c...

Exclamation

hey yall.... SmoothCruizer here and to give you some insights.... Me being a previous owner of a 97 camaro SS. I had modified my camaro with a flowmaster Super 40 and headers it was a blast cause it was 3 inch pipe all the way to the back... im going to give you some hints, what the hell hehe.... first theres a reason for all those mufflers on your cars folks... Hondas are the noisest making motors but in a good way. It being SOHC 24 valves can be music to the trained ears. DOHC sounding motors like the Mustang Cobra can be actually better sounding through methods of dual exhaust techniques so ford used dual exhaust for flowing 32 valves in their V8

the size of the muffler does matter.... my flowmaster on the camaro z28 SS was smaller and gave my car a more in your face loud than bass boom loud.... hard to describe without hearing but below gives you more of a description

1. catalyc converter--- leave alone
2. small resonator--- DELETES unwanted FREQUENCYS or TONES LOL so it being small and up front hello? --- it cancels high frequency before it gets into the mid muffler for a cleaner tone, just like car stereos...
3. Mid Muffler is for u guess it, the lower tones or lower frequency... u notice it has a offset to it too, well mine does, and its bigger in size to capture more.... I also notice hondas and acuras have a deeper tone when going to straight pipes or u know what ricers folks have... your BEST option is too use a Bigger Resonator muffler here something that has a bigger Round body and straight through so the sound GOES MORE TO THE REAR >KEYNOTE!!!!< why it was offset, these are LUXURY CARS right?

4. the rears mufflers are to capture whats left at the tips (the buzzing you may here around your trunk... these mufflers are pretty much so-so not much sound but vibration and Acura uses 2 sort of like a Stereo effect

PM back for other questions

SmoothCruizer, I completely missed a point in your post.........what were you getting at with all that? Sorry.......I think this information was posted earlier in the thread, about the frequencies the different mufflers are supposed to cancel.

Buzzing on Cold Start

Ok now I remember why I visited this thread. Okay so I noticed on a cold start.........after a long sit (7-8 hrs) I get a pretty annoying buzzing sound coming from the resonator area. It quickly goes away when I put the car in reverse or forward and apply the gas. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I repeat it is only heard at idle after start up on a cold start.

Sorry, just that my opinion is that i think the mid muffler should not be straight pipe but a muffler that is the same size any shape or form of the stock.... maybe the sound your getting is the exhaust is confused so your getting a feedback of some sort

Did you notice this right away. I just got mine done yesterday and I have not noticed this. Do you have a 6MT or auto? Mine is a 6MT and I really do love the sound. I guess I thought it might of been a little louder, but it is about just right really. I find I am on the gas more just to hear it.

Re-read my post. It only makes the noise when the car is idle right after a cold start. Yes the car sounds great after that. When idle at a stop light it doesn't make the noise (assuming because it is warmed up). I have an Auto but I wouldn't think it would make a difference though cause it is at idle.
