Heads up to the guys on the verge of doing the stage 3 exhaust mod. I was looking to do a stage 3 and is currently debating which dynomax resonator to combo with my XLR8 jpipe and came across this.

Discount codes at Advance Auto.

Available savings with promo code WD2 (should be good for a week or two)
  • $10 off orders over $25
  • $20 off orders over $50
  • $30 off orders over $75
  • $40 off orders over $100
  • $50 off orders over $125
Click link:

24235 - $67
24234 - $58
24215 - $62

Obviously, you can use a filler to meet the $30 off $75 marker, i.e. wash fluids, oil filter, cleaning supplies etc. or settle for $20 off 50. They also carry magnaflow resonators and mufflers as well, for those doing other exhaust mod stages.

You're saving about $5-$15 depending upon the vendors. Also AA coupons like these pops up frequently. But now I know I can pick it up locally. GL

Just to add to this thread... I picked up a new camera and since the TL is stored and hadn't turned it on in over a month I fired it up and let it run for a bit.

Not bad quiet tone to it.mines cranks up a bit more aggressive with stage 3. I'm working on a custom exhaust at the moment!

Stage 2 exhaust...

Man, that sounds great!! I think the Type S should have come from the factory sounding just like that. IMO that tone right there sounds better than any aftermarket catback I have heard and I dont like the tips of any aftermarket ones as much as the OEM anyway.
So if you dont mind telling me your exact setup because im strongly considering doing that to my Type S. So stage 2 is mid muffler delete, and which resonator do you have? (part #)
A couple other questions regarding the mod. I am pretty picky with my cars and I want to be 100% sure im gonna be happy with it once its done. Im gonna be pretty upset if I cut apart the exhaust on my 10,000 mile 6mt Type S only to find out I wish I never did it lol. So have you noticed anything that you dont like about it? When driving is there ever a point where its too loud, or does the tone seem to be just perfect all the time? Basically, if im driving with the cruise set at 60mph I want it to sound basically stock stock, and certainly no drone. Based on all that gibberish, do you think stage 2 is for me?

Thanks man I appreciate it!

Edit: I read back a few pages and saw your post about what you have done. Still looking for your input on sound since you have had it done a while now. Thanks

Honestly, I love it. In your day to day drive its not noticeable (when you have your windows up). Windows down you can hear it, and when you are underground or in a enclosed parking lot it is heavenly!

It is not obnoxious at all and no drone at all at freeway speeds. After a while I don't even notice the sound, sounds stock. There is a certain rpm range that you can hear it (2700-3200 rpm) anything above or lower you can't tell a difference.

24215 has a 12" case length and 2.5" in/out. 24235 has a 18" case length and 2.25" in/out. 215 is the commonly used stage 3 resonator, while the 235 is used by some to combat rasp issues with mm delete plus jpipe (no 3rd cat) setups. The 235 is a little less aggressive because of it's longer resonating chamber.

I removed my stock resonator and mid muffler and a lot of people tell me that my car sounds like a g35. It has slight rasp during 2200-2700 rpm range. I like it cus i was only looking to get that gurgly sound more than anything

Does removing the mm and replacing the resonator with a dynomax decrease fuel efficiency?

Not normally, although you may see a mpg decrease if you drive a little more spirited just to hear the exhaust difference.

hi guys, fan-frickin-tastic thread.
i just got Stage 3 mod on mine done today, and it was raining in LA area.
i had it done at Speedway muffler in Rowland Heights for 80 bucks they actually gave me two options on how he can do it which is cut it in two sections and perform 4 welds or just cut off from the resonator to the mid mufflerand do 3 welds both same price, i went with the latter since it was the cleaner install. it was great. under 2500RPM it sounds completely stock, after 2500~3000+ RPM that it sure does roar, but not retarded obnoxious like "hey cops look at me" loud. i also have the AEM V2 so i will let you guys know how it sounds after it fully breaks in.

After I did the mid-muffler delete and the XLR8 V2 J-pipe (which deletes the 3rd cat), it sounded better but still really quiet at idle, no real rumble to speak of. Had the resonator removed, idle was a lot better and full throttle sounded great. But at part throttle, between about 3500-5000 rpms, it had a really hollow sound. Really frustrating since it otherwise sounded pretty damn good. Ended up having the shop add back a 12" Dynomax resonator. Idle and full throttle sound better than it did with the stock resonator but not as good as without. However the part throttle unpleasant hollow sound is gone. And overall, it still sounds much better than stock.

My guess is I will probably have to go with a turbo style mufflers to get the deeper, somewhat louder idle I am looking for. Just one of those things you have to do a piece at a time to get what you want since sound quality is so subjective.

Did mid-muffler removal today on my 08 TL at meineke for $50 and I gotta say it sounds a lot better now, specially between 2k-3k rpm, and I love the little growling sound when it's idling. I think until I get used to the sound, I will keep driving my car with radio off. Next step will be stage 3 mod, with dynomax resonator 24234. But I will upload a video on how it sounds now as soon as I get a chance. I'd say stage 1 mod should be a must for all the TL drivers, this is how they should've came factory and if you want more louder sound, you can always get stage 2 or 3 done.

Hey i guys - i have an 06 base 5mt. Trying to decide between the dynomax 24235, and te 24234. My biggest concern is drone/engine noise at cruising speeds and idleing. I'd like to be able talk to my wife in the car without yelling. Any input?

If this is your only exhaust mod, nothing to worry about. You might not even notice, it's pretty subtle.

is there a very noticeable difference between the dynomax 24235, and the 24234? acceleration and cruising noise?

Which diameter to get for stage 3?

Some say 24215 (2.5") and some say 24234 (2.25"). Which one should I get for an 06 TL? Do they both fit? What's the difference?

Did the stage 2 a while back with the magna flow. It sounds awesome when it starts up and has a nice gurgle while idling. It stays fairly quite under ~2500rpm, but has a nice throaty tone if I give throttle.

It's not super loud, which is perfect since this is a $30-40K family sedan. I hate that tin can "wake up the neighborhood" or "I have a hole in my muffler" sound. There's none of that with the stage 2.

I got stage 3 done two months ago with Dynomax 24215, and I love my car even more. Stage 1 for me was way too quiet, stage 3 is perfect IMO, no drone, not loud at all on the highway which is good, best sound at 3K rpm. Sounds similar to G35. And it sounds beastly in a parking garage.

to get stage mods done? not sure if they'd do it, even if they did, you won't be happy what they charge you. Just take it to a local muffler shop or shops like mineke and midas and they'll happily do it.

I have an 04 TL 6 speed, debating whether i should get the stage 2 with the Magnaflow or the stage 3 with the Dynomax. I will eventually be adding the Type S quad mufflers ( I need the 07 rear lip for that right? ) so lets keep that in mind!

Stage 2 isn't much louder than stage 1. IMO stage 3 has perfect sound specially with dynomax 24215. If you want to add type S quads, you'll need a type S or a-spec rear bumper.

Will the A-Spec lip for the 04 fit the Type S quads? i thought i needed the 07 Type S lip which has larger holes for the exhaust

my bad, just re-checked, a-spec lip is no wider than the base lip, so I guess you'd have to get 07-08 Type S lip.
