2012 TL AWD-TECH 6MT - 13800km

Passenger side HID low beam stopped working. Dealer had to replace ignitor and ballast (under warranty). That was about a month ago.

2012 TL FWD Advance

33k Miles. Runs Great.

So far:
1. Dealer has replaced driver's side visor twice - wasn't staying flush with roof. Now the current one is hanging down an inch. Must be the spring and not the visor.
2. Tranny makes a buzzing sound at very slow speeds when cold in the morning. I usually notice it when coasting through the kids school parking lot in the AM.
3. Trunk liner coming out again. They fixed once.
4. Third brake light housing vibrates LOUDLY. I just have the kids take turns in the back holding it

Performance wise, the car has driven excellent! It is such a huge improvement over my 2005 TL. It just feels more solid.

The spring is part of the visor. It's inside of the visor itself. All it does is mount to the roof and connect the wire. Our 09 had this issue. But my 2012 hasn't shown it.

2012 7k miles

Very well except for the leather. The leather is quite thin compared to my previous BMW's. The outside bottom bolsters (next to your butt) on both sides are very wrinkled. The leather seems like it may be top-grain, but I don't really think that's the best choice for a high use place like car seats.

A few rattles here and there but to be expected on a stiff suspension car like this.

You may be the highest miles of a 4G so far, 120k. Appleton is a cool city by the way.

Besides the creaking noise coming from the dash that I was able to fix; my baby is ROCK SOLID. I'm at ~2600 miles currently and had her since mid March. No issues; no more noise.

2010 TL SH-AWD w/Tech & 18"Wheels

40,100 Miles. I have had no major issues except for a chip in the silver grille. (silver coating chipped off..size of a pea)

I'm not too concerned as I will soon be having the grille painted to match the beautiful Crystal Black Pearl Paint.

In response to the terrible OEM batteries Acura pushes..I've used interstate in my 2000 3.2 TL & it was the absolute best. Very dependable and never worry about it failing.

I am just waiting until the OEM screws me..then it will be replaced with an interstate.

2009 SH-AWD Tech
~51,000 Miles

Battery replaced at 45,000 under warranty.

Drivers side seat belt replaced (Stopped retracting in cold weather) under warranty.

Wiper switch replaced 3 times, wipers still randomly turn on by themselves and then stop randomly in the middle of the windshield. No one can figure it out, I think its not the switch, dealer still does. Replaced all 3 times under warranty.

No other problems, love the car except for the city mileage. Great on the highway. Handles like a dream! Amazing on winding mountain dirt roads.

Hood/front fender paint repaired under warranty (due to clear coat fishscales)

About to go in for an annoying sunroof rattle. Otherwise all good.

For you guys with the sunroof rattles, mine was bugging me too. Took it in and they "lubricated" the sunroof (assuming the rails, from the look of it at the time). Not a peep since then. You might ask your dealer to give it a try the next time you're in for service.

I've had the car for 2 weeks...however the previous owner got everything done at the Acura dealership and has extensive service records. It is an Acura certified pre-owned vehicle, however since I made the purchase from their sister Honda dealership (got a significantly better deal for my trade in even with the extended warranty and my last 3 cars came from there) I had to get an extended warranty.

2010 SH-AWD Auto w/tech - 47K miles
35k miles - 5AT torque converter replaced
46k miles - PCV valve replaced
46k miles - rear head rest button replaced
46k miles - seat heater seats removed and cleaned (That was almost $100 to clean the contacts on the buttons)

Everything else on the car is feels tight. I have a few rattles here and there but nothing absurd. Everything works so far. Here is to putting my trust into Honda reliability...

My only concern is the diff fluid was replaced at 15k miles and there is no record of diff or transmission fluid being replaced after that.

I'm hoping in the next few weeks I can find the time to replace them just for peace of mind.

When I had an S2000 I would Honda/Acura's Shin Etsu grease on all the rubber seals at least once year.

That's a good practice, and that stuff is magic potion. I used some on the sunroof seal of our old Accord, and it instantly eliminated a noise we had in the sunroof area from the first year or so we owned the car. (Wish I had tried it earlier).

Just purchased an 09 TL-SHAWD w/Tech Package 2 weeks ago.
93k miles.

Only gripe I have is the gear lag. I've heard of torque converter software. Need to check to see if the previous owner had this done. Car drives strong.

Your local dealer can check using the VIN. They will let you know of all service, warranty, and recall work performed on your vehicle at Acura or Honda dealership.

I would also check your tranny and diff fluids, replacing the fluids if they haven't been done recently might help.

2010 SH-AWD Tech 58000 km
Transmission starts having too much resistance between gears, feels like car is braking when shifting
triple flushed transmission oil and replaced transfer case oil problems goes away. Also replaced a chipped windshield with original dealer glass with logo.
Transmission computer was also reflashed due to the Torque Converter recall.
Other than that no issues.

2013 fwd tech 21k purchased in 7/2013
Replaced driver side door arm rest due to caving in.
Only issue is the that between 1500-2500 rpm the car makes a funny sound so the dealer just did ignition update to adjust when the gears change. Problem solved!

Hi Everyone,

I'm about to pickup a new to me 2010 sh-awd 6mt which is a rare find here in Toronto. Anyhow, the car has 75000 kms on it and I bought it from an Acura dealership. Is it worth getting the extended warranty for it? I've bought other Acura's before and got the Acura plus warranty but never really used it much, though the other cars were not TL's. What's your thoughts on getting the ext warranty on a 6mt with 75 000 kms?

Thanks!

extended warranties are usually crocks of BS.

your transmission choice is the better choice as Honda's Automatics arent very stout.

the J-series engine has been in production since 1996 and pretty much trouble free.
however, on the 3.7's we have seen abnormal oil loss.
be sure to read the extended warranty's small fine print and make sure it covers the 3.7l oil loss.
I think we've come to a conclusion that the pistons or rings or something isnt seating correctly. (needs a rebuild of the engine if this occurs)

Please tell me more about the 4G you don't own. The pistons, rings or something isn't seating correctly? What a broad statement that covers all the bases on that one. If the engine is burning oil and not losing it anywhere else, it is not the pistons, but the piston rings themselves. There is no where else for the oil to go unless the engine is leaking, but the oil consumption threads I have read do not mention any leaks or a head gasket leak either. I have a thought to what is really happening since it's only on the manual cars.

^its the rings, fool.
I grouped them together, piston, rings, etc are not seating correctly.

you're smart, man. and Im agreeing with you. dont be a dick.

and I stated, if this occurs, then the extended warranty might come into play. but you'll need to read the fine print on the warranty itself.

dont be a dick. you were so great in the suspension thread with UCF_bronco and Hogan. Dont be a dick

Thanks for the response guys. Should I be worried about the electronics in the car? Typical dealer lines like " you know the nav systems is $6500 to replace...." is giving me a bit of anxiety......

how much more do you have to pay for the warranty?
I bought my 2010 tech 6MT from Downtown Acura (Toronto)... took FOREVER to find.

i'm assuming it's an "Acura Certified Unit" so they give you like $600 off the price of the warranty... So I only paid an additional 600ish to get the 7 yr/160K. BUT not sure that was necessary. For that much money though, can't really go wrong.

They're asking $2k for the warranty. At this point in time they dont want to negotiate. They're pushing me on theis other warranty that requires you to pay a deductable but will cover the car an extra year for around the same price. Typically I would've bought it but at $2k i dunno if its worht it for an extra 3 yrs and or 100k... Thoughts?

2009 AWD w/ 92,000km

Battery went (previous owner replaced it under warranty)
Driver side door speaker went (replaced at dealer's expense)
Torque converter (seems ok for now but I get the jerking sometimes)

Cars been pretty good for me. Changed the exhaust to an aftermarket one but I might switch back to OEM. Lowered on H&R's and my stock struts haven't blown or anything. Might need new tires soon.

Mine was rebuilt about 3 months ago. New rings, machined pistons, etc. Followed the break in period like they said. Drove the car for about 6,000km, and am now at 60% oil life. Pulled the dip stick, and guess what? No oil on the dip stick......again. I give up, dealer said that i've gone 6,000km, so that's not really a huge issue. It's now normal, as before the fix it was burning alot more. Burning is burning, no $45,000 + car should have to add oil between recomended oil change intervals. So i asked them, if this is normal, then i don't need to add any oil? He said correct, just ride it out, and if the Low Oil light comes on before my oil change, then call him. So whatever, 13 months remaining on my lease, and Acura can have this gem back. What a shame, i love the car, but can't keep it after warranty, with a rebuilt engine.

Back to the op's extended warranty question, i'd pull the dip stick before picking it up, checking the oil level and the oil percentage left on the car. If they didn't replace the oil, and it's not at the full mark, then you my friend are in the same boat as us. I'd take the warranty, but they will still try to push back on fixing it. Just be strong. Sorry, didn't mean to rant....

I posted here when my car had 11 k kms in 2012.I now have 23k kms and the only issue that I had was a slight shudder from the tranny. That was really minimized after the software update and transmission fluid change.

My qualms with this car is the transmission does not like being in 5th gear at such low speed and when the A/C is on you can feel a slight vibration through the car during idle. Acura really needs to step up and fix these issues so that it is not "just a characteristic of the vehicle".

I have the 3.7 and to date I have not had any oil consumption issues, however the oil is usually changed around 7K kms.

12 advance 35k miles

Oil pan was leaking through the drain plug and was replaced under warranty. I think the last time I had an oil change the tech forced it in or something.

Now im not sure if its me being paranoid or not, but i kinda feel some jerkiness when accelerating around 10 to 30mph. dont hear any weird sounds or hissing noise but it does feel somewhat different than what i was used to with my previous car (lexus rx300).

Im pretty sure if i bring it to the dealer they will tell me its normal or whatever so i guess im waiting for it to become a major problem so they have no excuse but to fix it.
