Rearview Mirror low tech swappout anyone?

I too suffer from the exploded rearview mirror syndrome.

I've called and have been quoted anywhere between $150+ for a new mirror.

As I was driving last night with a truck glaring behind me. It hit me...Just go the low tech mirror route for faaaarr cheaper....

Has anyone else made the switch to a "manual dark mode" mirror?

Number 11 is what you need and it cost way less than $150.

Interesting. The 2G cars had this problem usually manifest as loss of the glare reduction at the periphery of the mirror glass. If you don't mind can you give the year of your TL, and what happened to your mirror?

Walt...I took the Delray price sheet on a different part into my dealer here in Colorado, actually the new Honda dealer, and they matched the price and I didn't have to pay shipping. You might try that.

Works great on small stuff like bolts, etc. I go in with a printout of the cart from an online place and usually can get similar prices, but without the shipping.

Hmmmm....makes me wonder how likely my local dealer is willing to price match? The best I have gotten them to do is sell me parts at list price instead of their normal +25%. My local Honda dealer already sells at list so I imagine they will be much more open to getting closer to the online prices. The Honda dealer is also completely open to me providing my own parts which is a nice option.

To the OP...I am pretty sure it was about $85 total when I ordered mine a year or so ago. The biggest issue I had was getting the old mirror off of the mount. When it came off...it went flying and put a little nick in the trim above the radio.

To the other person asking about year and what happened: At least on mine ('05), it develops a bubble in the glass (actually between the various layers) and the auto-dim doesn't work any more and things get blurry.

Thanks for the response. I wanted to know just in case mine develops a similar issue.

Its a funny 1st world problem. Our automatic rearview mirrors lose the magic liquid that cause them to darken without lifting a finger.

So the going low tech was just an idea that popped in my head while driving my 98 explorer...Dont get me wrong...I'll end up plunking down the money for the new auto rearview....But it's very tempting to get a $25 manual mirror and not look back.

I'm guessing an Accord of the same time period might physically work. No idea if they use a regular mirror or not. Since mine doesn't work anyway with my tinted windows I might take this route if it ever goes out. It's a nice feature but I will manage if I need to lift my arm to dim it. The most fun I've had is in cars with few electronics and features.

I do the same thing. My dealer usually beats the price by 15-20% when they realize I'm not an idiot.

Agree but most small stuff they were kind enough to give it for free i.e. front bumper plugs, bolts, etc. I mean I got my aspec for $700 and they dont charge shipping.

I do the same; walk in with a printout and they get as close as possible to those prices. Save on shipping and no wait

I've done it so much they just put an automatic 20% off on my account now. I just give them my phone # and that's it
