Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish...thoughts ?
I purchased this product to hopefully have less brake dust on my TL-S wheels. The instructions say when you begin to apply it that there should be like a black soot look to the wheel as your rubbing it in and if you dont see that stop rubbing it as that surface cant be polished. I did not see any soot as I was rubbing it in Am I missing something here? I generally have never polished any rims before but these get SO loaded with brake dust from the brembos I figured if something could help I will try it.

Agreed, that is the wrong stuff for clear coated wheels!!!
It works great on exhaust tips and non coated wheels. Get some all wheel cleaner or some simple green to clean your wheels!

thanks guys. Hopefully I can return this stuff to walmart. I have wheel cleaner. I was hoping to put some type of polish on the rims to make it a little easier to clean off the vaunted brembo brake dust.

keep it and use it on your exhaust tips....
as for your wheels, i would take a cleaner wax clean the wheels up, then put a synthetic sealant on them....
if your just looking for something you can get at walmart, try the meguiars nxt...its a sealant with cleaner in it....

A cleaner wax before a sealant isn't a good idea .. the sealants need a good clean surface to bond to.
Use your wheel cleaner to get them clean then do a wipe down using a 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol & water to prep the surface and a great sealant/protectant for the wheels is NuFinish liquid. Available at Walmart .. its durable & cheap.
Nothing on the market is going to stop the brake dust. But a good sealant on the wheels every few months will make them easier to clean.
Just a hint tho... brake dust can become acidic once it is exposed to moisture so wash the wheels often.
I have a sealant on mine and never use anything but the til end of my car wash water and a dedicated mitt to clean them.

Also wouldnt rubbing alcohol/water mix be harmful to the clear coat ?

If rubbing alcohol was harmful I wouldn't have recommended it
