MDX Headrests - HELP!

OK, I need some serious help. I just purchased an 2013 MDX tech package. Least exciting car I have ever owned, but I needed a SUV with 3 rows and a decent ride. Went on a 1 hour road trip today and found out just how retched the headrests are. Did a bunch of searches and understand about the rear end collision BS. Don't care, I need something that is comfortable, I will worry about a rear end collision when it happens.

I am more then willing to purchase a replacement headrest and don't even care if the color matches at this point. Any suggestions on where I can find a replacement that is at least mildly comfortable? If the answer is to go for a custom mod so be it, not a chance I would tolerate this for another ~50K miles. Thanks for the help! Cheers!

What is it that you find so uncomfortable?
I think they are perfectly ok. In my previous Pilot I can say they were horrible because they were way to far back, giving zero support.

I'm pretty normal height (6'-0"). From an ergonomic standpoint they make no sense. To use them as a headrest your neck has to compress forward at an odd angle. Either that or you are barely leaning against them with your head and forced to keep your shoulders off of the back of the seat. Again, not comfortable for any period of time. A simple fix for me would be a headrest that follows the plain of the seat back. Is there an aftermarket site where I can find a replacement?

Any help would be huge!!!

Thank you!

They call them headrests but their sole function is whiplash suppression. If you want to rest your head you should let someone else drive and lay down in the rear.

NASCAR mandated a system to hold your head up - you may be able to pick up a "slightly used" one after a race near you. Some rebar and duct tape should do it.

Had the same issue with my 2009 MDX. It was a deal-breaker for my wife, until the salesman suggested an adjustable DVD headrest set made by Invision. We ordered a set along with the new car. Not sure Invision makes the same model anymore, but this is an avenue you should explore.

Another possibility is to find headrests from another Honda product, likely from a few model years back. Do a search and you'll find lots of people with this problem, and a few solutions.

The headrests in the 10 - 13 MDX were modified from previous models for an improved safety feature that I beleive was a mandate. To negate this feature may only help, at best your doctor or, at worst, your undertaker.

I think someone said if you reverse it will make a difference but you will not have the same whip lash protection.

When I first drove my TL I noticed the head rest. But now I can say I never notice them anymore. Maybe try and give it a little time for your body and head to adjust to the new style seat. Good luck!
