Well I did the seafoam yesterday. There was absolutely no smoke during the drive. I guess I'm good for the year.

1st timers should repeat in 2000 miles
If you got no smoke- was there any during the install-? should have been coming out the exhaust- not all cars have huge smoke, some of it is seafoam technique~

Did you use the correct vac port,,, that will suck your finger tight to the hose?
as illustrated in many recent pics?

I actually done this before; about 10k miles ago. I had some smoke out the exhaust then, but none to speak of this time. I did use the right port this time thanks to the pics.

Do it again in 2000 miles to be certain you are clean and perfect~

In a world of rising gas and food prices, starvation, global warming, and communism.. there's a glimmer of hope that still exists.....I discovered today that Wal-Mart now carries Seafoam($5.96 at my local one). Thank the Lord!!

Alright! i got some good news to report and some bullsh!t to talk about to. I seafoamed the ride this weekend..... It went great! didn't get a lot of smoke but when i started to go for the drive i got a lil bit of smoke. Car runs pretty damn good now!
01tl4t i pulled the spark plugs like you said to....i pulled my front 3 and here is the bullsh!t.....why were all three of my plugs gap'd wrong. i called the dealer and they said the gaping shoudl be between .039 and .043.... my sh!t was like .045 (which with pulse plugs they should never exceed this limit.) another one was like .05? (pist about this one) and another that was something..... but long story short. Those 3 plugs were gap'd wrong! so i fixed those 3 didn't get to the ones in the back but for another time i will.....

But the highlight of the whole weekend....... I got my AEM intake installed....*ill-TL helped me. but that mutha F#%$a is sweet! I'm finding it hard to keep my foot out the gas tank! I love hearing that sound! (Come on AEM make the V2 for the TL!) i'll try and post pictures of it installed!

Seafoamed this weekend per DIY!!!

Well, I mustard up the courage to Seafoam my 86,300 mile 04 TL this weekend. I bought it a few months ago with High mileage but the car has been great. So any way I think I drove by the Advanced Auto like 3 time before I decided "what the hell" So I did it. Here is my report. I got a Heinken beer glass out of my recycling bin and washed and dryed it. Filled it about half way with SeaFoam and poured it into my 1/4 filled gas tank. Then put the rest of the Seafoam back into the glass and did the hose thing in the vacumm line. Asked my wife to sit in the drivers side to accelarate as I sip, sip method. Car turned off a few times, CEL light came on. Noticed smoke as I was going the sip, sip. Then I let the car sit for 10-15 min. Came out started the car, sat there and let the RPM's stabalize to less the 1K. Reverse, noticed a little jerky and lag. Droped it in SS and took off the car hesitated and damn I look back and nothing but a smoke screen, thank god I was on a back road. Any way got to the main street and took off again, car hesitated and then took off...more smoke, CEL light stated flashing (never seen that before). Drove car for 10min at 3rd gear 4K RMPs. Then did a regular drive. Went and cleared the CEL light at Auto Zone, 9 codes including oxygen leak, mis fire cylinder 1, 5 and a few repeted codes O2 Senser. Any way cleared them and car runs great. Went and filed the tank after that so I guess I will wait for improved gas milege.

Thought it would be nice to share my story.

another successful seafoam user here. I sipped it in slowly, died a few times, then by the end of the bottle the garage filled with smoke. Oddly, when we shut the engine down, the car didnt seem to want to turn off. It chugged a little before shutting down completely.
15 mins later, start it up, let the idle settle for a bit and clouds of smoke already began to pour out. Took it to a main road and floored it to 4k and blinded everyone in back of me. Felt very bad for the expedition that had to ease of the gas to avoid the enormous cloud. Drove it for 15mins or so, hit the gas a few times, car coughed out couple more bursts of smoke.
All in all, pretty easy process. Had a 1/4 in hose which made it much easier. Question though: After letting the car sit for 15 mins, at start up the car made some awful metal clinks for a split second before firing. What's the deal with that?

that bad running at start up is from the seafoam- its not gasoline and does not combust like gas- so as it gets blown out and more gas mixture (with its own seafoam dose) comes in- the engine runs right.
Over the next few days of driving it keeps getting better as the injectors clear out and the rest of the stuff gets more cleaning with use

It works BEST when you add 2oz foam to each 1 gallon of gas- or 1 can per 1/4 tank- run it down a few gallons- add a few gallons- try to keep the mix above 1 to 1 for cleaning.
As much of 8oz that you can get into the intake manifold is good- if a little leftover, just put in the gas tank.
Totally normal to have engine die 3 times during foam install- see note about not being gas. Next time add smaller sips and more stabilize time between each sip
More than 5 minutes to the do job-- is in the right direction

CEL will normally clear by itself in a day or 2, or by pulling the ecu fuse or disconnecting the car battery- that forces a computer reset.
Lots of codes would make me think it really did need the foam!!!

Congrats to all- and remember to repeat engine and gas method in 2,000 miles for 1st timers. Then good for a year- throw a can in the gas now and then to keep it clean-example every 5000 miles, can in low gas tank.
The engine oil treatment do right before an oil change.

you should call Pulsestar for the gap they use- acura spec may not apply to their plugs, and being all different would explain some of the weirdness you experience
That, or get a set of ngk, and tell pulsestar they have a serious QC issue on gapping and you will be returning them

another successful seafoam story. i finally decided to seafoam the car using the sip method which took about 10 minutes. After a 10 min soak, I didnt notice any smoke coming from the exhaust so i thought my car was clean, was i wrong. Once I started driving, the car starting spewing smoke everywhere. After a few high rev runs, the car feels great and no cel issues.

This is a very easy diy and I recommend it to anyone here.

Now I'm l ooking into CAI for increase MPG

Any one else have any other advice on keeping the MPG HIGH HIGH HIGH?

I usually drive under 2500 rpm, so it's not my foot that's keeping my MPG low... lower than I want it to be atleast.

dont lug the TL- super low rpm is just making it work harder to move the mass.
once everything is clean and fresh spark plugs- ck tire pressure and run a few psi above the door sticker suggestions
Use cruise control every time you can- in town especially is a lot of on and off the gas
When on cruise- remove foot from pedal- you would be surprised at the pressure and extra fuel used from resting foot on gas pedal
if you get 22-24 city/hwy combined you are in the range of norm
long on cruise control freeway runs, 29+ is normal
in town alone, the epa estimate in the days of generous test,, was 19

reminder to 1st time foamers- you want to repeat the manifold and gas tank methods in 2,000 miles. Then good for a year- wise to throw something in the gas every 5000 miles just to keep it clean.

All praise to seafoam! I changed my oil this morning and added seafoam to the crankcase (just put it in where the oil goes in at) i added half the can......and while driving this morning i feel a complete difference in acceleration! This stuff is the shyt! I have done a complete seafoam of all areas! intake manifold, gas tank, and oil crank case! I definately recommend any and everyone to do it!!!!!! The cheapest clean and restore of HP,MPG, torque, whatever that is out there!

01tl4tl
I got the codes ran again when i got my oil change and the only code that is given now is my speed sensor. So my car isn't running rich anymore! I think it might have been the combination of gaping my plugs and the intake allowing more air into the engine to balance it out. So now i might have to update my response on the pulse plugs but you were right though even if it gave 1mpg the plugs pay for themselves over a years time. since you don't have to replace them for about 3years or so you definately have gotten your money's worth. I didn't think of it like that! i think its just having to pay $125 (w/ coupon) $160(w/o coupon) for some plugs that scare people. Definately no complaints about getting them though.

So I want to do this to my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport to see if I can get some horse power back. What do I need to do?? I see just putting half the can in the crankcase is that all, will that not mess up the oil in there already?? And does anyone know if the 2001 Explorer has the vacuum hose our TL's have?? I know this is not a Ford website or forum (moderators) but just a shoot in the dark.

Thanks

fsttyms1 can tell you exactly where a good vac hose is on an exploder- PM him

You want to change the oil VERY soon after adding seafoam to the engine,
like 5-30 minutes of running it~ in general.
You can run longer as long as you watch the dipstick for change in color
It is cleaning away at the crud and the oil picks it up and takes to the filter,
if there were an obscene amount of crud, it could fill up the filter and cause the bypass to open and divert flow past the filter~ not good.
Put a new filter on first-- if thats a concern on an older ride- not the tl

PK- strange that adding to the oil would restore HP- it could make vtec work better since that runs on oil pressure changes and oil pressure to operate.
Maybe the few days since everything else was done and its all coming together now
Repeat in 2000 miles for max performance and effect.

with the skyrocketing fuel prices- the repay/break even point on many mods or maitenance is weeks or months now- not a year for payback

01tl4tl, what is your input on CAI?

Many have suggested to get Fujita CAI...I am planning on sticking that into the 07 Type-S.

I would seafoam, but it seems almost too new to seafoam. It runs 23 MPG right now with mixed driving.

Some people mentioned exhaust as being an increase in milage as well. What exactly would I be doing to the exhaust to give it better milage?

no need to seafoam until 1 year or 15k miles
A little something in the gas tank will keep you good till then- use good gas brands
Some CAI units may help you- the icebox seems to be among the best.
I did the gen2 method and removed the lower intake resonator box- thus allowing much more air from the outside/front of the car into the stock air filter box- which has a nice 4 inch opening under it- and installed a K&N air filter.

The payback time on a different exhaust would be a loooong time
Check out vendor Excelerate for the P2R intake manifold spacer- thats about the easiest thing to change and will improve performance of the engine- result is better mileage and better midrange torque

I'm looking at CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP changes to save money.

doing all this is like buying a hybrid civic over a civic EX. There is a 4-5 thousand difference, and how long will it take you to save 4-5 grand????? I'd rather have a better car for those 3-4 years it'll take to save 5000. Which btw, is just EVENING out.. what if you were to change cars after 3-4 years? Then you just saved zero dollars. I also don't travel that much on inside roads, so hybrids do dont much. HW milage for a hybrid is less than city.

Back to that, what is the ice box again?

search!!!! for icebox-

removing the lower intake resonator is FREE
using a quality air filter is 30-50$ and last longer~ good airflow is crucial to the TL...IMO
Keeping the engine innerdz clean- the TB butterfly plate clean- good spark plugs-
valves adjusted, oil changes- use synthetic oil IMO, all will net the best mileage for the lowest cost....IMO

Sorry, haha well anyways, you can't go wrong with seafoam; i'm actually doing it to all 3 cars! worked very well; throttle response is a TAD bit better, not much, but indeed very noticeable, and she idles SO quietly; i had a friend of mine actually say "wow your car's really quiet!" without knowing that i seafoamed...it's great and you really can't go wrong. DEFINITELY increases mileage; i've been "playing" on the freeway all day and SOMEHOW i've managed to get 205 miles out of HALF a tank...i usually get 225 on average after a day's play...impressive.

have any questions? pm me and i'll walk ya through it; i learned from the best! 01tl!...and of course props to the original poster as well!

The engine oil treatment do right before an oil change.

sorry 01, more questions! lol
but when you say "right before an oil change", do you mean the day of? i'm at 20% oil life, should i throw it in and actually drive around for a bit till it actually drops to 5% ish?...or right before as in throw it in, drive it around, and then change it the day of?

thanks,
erc

You can drive up to 500 miles, but it is best around 100-200 IMO. You can take it after a 30 minute run as well, because it's just like removing dirt... You can let it soak in and do its job, or you can take it out after a quick cleanse.
So your options...

1)Add Seafoam, Drive around, Change Oil and Filter Immediately.

2)Add Seaoam, Drive around for a day or two let it DEEP clean, change the oil.

3)Add Seafoam, Drive around til 500 miles, Change the oil. (I don't recogmend this because if your engine is dirty, then you may fill up the filter and the oil pressure will be F*kd up.
