Need help powder coating IM
Mainly just a couple questions so I don't screw it up...
The plan is to sand / polish the upper half a bit just to smooth it out, then powder coat it.
Will the ~400 degree oven bake screw up the seal between the two halves? Do I need to separate the IM before powder coating? If so, how do we re-seal it? I can't tell if it's a gasket or that liquid gasket stuff, and acura only sells the IM as a one piece online, no separate gasket listed.
Anything else I need to do?
Also, the top plate's butterflies were ~10-20% open when we opened it up. I thought the controller kept them fully closed until ~3800RPMs, so how come they're a little open, if the car was at idle when it was turned off prior to removal of parts?
Thx

seperate them. seal could melt, no gasket no sealant, just replace the seal and tighten.
on the RL there are metal pads inside with little tiny allens holding them in.
my Powder coater just left them in then used a dremel to remove the powder.
said he broke too many of the tiny allens trying to remove them.

So it's a bunch of individual metal gaskets?
I've gotten so many different answers on this no clue what to do.

FYI I believe the IM is bonded with Hondabond, which is good for up to 600 degrees F so no need to separate.

powder coater is probably going to have to sand blast them anyhow to create the tooth needed on the manifold for the powder to stick (even though they use the electrostatic charge on the stuff)
I did knock some of the casting marks off my top plate prior to taking it in though when I had that part done
when mine was done he left the bolts in and said it was a good thing that we had done so because the two halves would've fallen apart on the hook
the manifold is magnesium, so the powder coater I used sprayed it when it was hot, basically they heat it up first to let it off-gas and then coat it and bake it on
because it's magnesium you can get bubbles in the powder coating from the metal off-gasing during the process, which is the reason for trying to get the metal to off-gas prior to putting the powder coat on it
