SuperTrooper169's 2009 Dodge Charger R/T R&T Thread

Got a great price on my MS6 on trade-in, worked the numbers and drove her home. She's a 2009 Charger R/T with the Road & Track package which adds the chrome 20" wheels, performance suspension and steering, leather/alcantra seats from the SRT8 and a better flowing intake from the Daytona/SRT8. Specs are 368hp & 395ft lbs tq, which is plenty to get myself in trouble with. The color is called Deep Water Blue Pearl.

Big thanks to Sarlacc for many back and forth PM's about various MOPARs and the wealth of knowledge he was able to pass onto me. I'm not going to lie like I did in past, she will be modded and won't remain stock very long.

Of course it rained on the way home so the nice fresh detail job is now a runny pollen mess, so I'll take proper photos once the weather cooperates.

After the detail at the dealership

7 years ago today I drove Sapphire home from the dealership. I can't believe I made it to 7 years with any car. I had an impromptu photo shoot the other evening waiting for our takeout. 11 years old with 111k miles but still gives me giggles when I floor it. I have been tossing around the idea of a few mods, but dropping 2 Gs on getting the A/C fixed last year kind of took the wind out of my sails for putting any more money into her, but we'll see.

Holy crap! I thought you'd never part with the MS6! Congrats!

Admit it...driving my M5 back in the day made you long for more cylinders and horsepower.

Thank you sir. I fell in love with the color especially since you don't see a vibrant blue very often on newer cars.

Dude I never thought I'd part with the Speed6 either, but with a 2nd child on the way I really wanted a full size car. And yeah you letting me drive the M5 definitely didn't help with that!! This HEMI is no V10 scream machine though.

Cool man I'd definitely like any and all info on the best places to look for parts. I just couldn't convince myself the 300C SRT8 was for me. Yes it was a beast to drive, but the styling just didn't fit. Great car though nonetheless.

How do you like the stock suspension with the R&T package? If you're happy with it and just looking for a drop. My performance shop makes springs for just dropping the car.

Of course...get a diablo predator or trinity...even the canned tune will make a difference.

I'll set you up with some other places...

Thanks very much. I really like the new Chargers, but they were just a hair out of my price range. So far in the 60 or so miles I've driven it I'm super happy with it. No complains thus far.

I love the suspension so far! It's a perfect blend between a luxury car smooth ride and yet it really keeps the car planted with minimal body roll in the turns. It's damn impressive for such a big car. My wife actually said last night it might be the most comfortable car she's ever been in. I'd definitely consider just putting springs on it in the future, then it'd be perfect. I've never been a chrome wheel guy but for some reason these just fit the car perfect. I don't think I'd change them.

I checked my air filter last night and it's seen better days, so I'm 99% sure that means good reason to get an intake ASAP. I like the way the K&N's have the heat shield tucked into the corner of the front, but I'm sure there's a ton of options out there. I definitely want to stay away from a true CAI though since it does flood here pretty often and I don't want to risk hydrolock. A tuner will come soon, too. I'll likely get the predator if I can still find one since they're discontinuing them.

Thanks man. I thought the MS6 was a nice bump in torque over the Accord. This is just as nice a bump in torque over the MS6. Makes for fun take offs.

Thanks, it's feels good joining the dark side! Thanks for the advice on the 300 SRT8. In the end it simply came down to styling. The car was an amazing ride, just not for me. Maybe some 300 SRT8 parts will end up on the Charger though, like those nice flowing 6.1 headers!

I just saw a couple predators being sold used on the lxforums...just make sure they are UNMARRIED...otherwise...waste of money.

Didn't realize they were discontinuing them. I've heard nothing but complaints about the InTune (and quite frankly I'm surprised apple hasn't sued them for that design yet).

Bummer on the true CAI...I was going to recommend the Stack Performance bullet. Its what I run. There is the HMI (legmaker?) or something to that effect which is also popular.

There are a couple companies like K&N that have the shorter under hood intakes with the heat shield. You could even start out with a K&N performance drop in filter.

For headers...kooks and jbl are popular. As are swapping 6.1 and 6.4 headers/mids/cats on to our 5.7s....as you know I am running the 6.1's (because I want to stay smog legal in cali...) I believe the jbl shorties would also stay smog legal.

Glad you like the handling. We'll talk suspension another time

If you want nice little dress up goodies....http://billettechnology.com They make a lot of nice billet aluminum pieces...I'm not too much on a lot of their stuff, but I had them make my custom nose badge(Mandalorian Skull). They are REALLY popular for that.

I'll have to join the forums. I've just been crazy busy selling all my Speed6 parts I haven't had time to really start browsing the LX stuff yet.

As far as the Predator goes, their website is where I read it's being discontinued for the InTune. I'd rather have the tried and true Predator so I'll have to go pre-owned and of course unmarried.

If I'm going to spend the money on a K&N drop in I might as well get the full shorty intake. I'm probably being over cautious with the non-CAI route but I felt stressed every time I drove my Accord with my AEM CAI on it and was relieved when I bought the MS6 with a short ram already on it. It's just the piece of mind thing. To me it's not worth a few HP to bug out all the time.

I actually really like your idea of using the 6.1/6.4 exhaust components. Probably cheaper and the stock look/quality is a nice perk. I'll have to browse soon.

And yeah the suspension can wait. It's a big car so the wheel gap doesn't bother me, it fits the car's mojo.

Where/what kind of oil catch can do you have? That's going to be another mod I'd like to do sooner than later. The OCC on my Speed6 made me a believer.

Well you could always leave the flag off. Doesn't really matter though since your car is blue. Wouldn't make for a good General Lee...

Well he did say "full General Lee". It wouldn't be complete without the flag haha.

I am slightly intrigued with white or silver rally stripes, but I like of like it simple solid blue, too.

It's in really good shape (paint, body, interior) . I assume removing the dealer advertisements is on the short list for this weekend (or this evening) .

Thanks man. There are a few scratches and itsy bitsy dings here and there, but overall it's really clean. The previous owner bought it right before being deployed in Hawaii, so he had it shipped out there. He had it the whole time he was out there and then when he got back he decided to down-grade for whatever reason. I'm sure the gas mileage in Hawaii didn't help things.

And yeah I need to get that front plate off. I'm scare to see how bad the holes in the front bumper are. Depending on that I might just get some kind of MOPAR vanity plate instead or something along those lines.

I have a stack performance catch can, but Billet tech seems to be the fad.
Also look into the tranzformer shift kit. I love mine. Really transforms the auto trans into something I almost like
http://www.zautotech.com/tranzformer.html

That's odd...My car was also in HI for a year.

I am slightly intrigued with white or silver rally stripes, but I like of like it simple solid blue, too.
At least weld the doors shut so you have to get in and out through the windows.

I have the SP catch can as well (guess where fuzzy got the idea from )

Billet tech is very popular for the catch can...they are a bit smaller. I support SP as he is my performance guy.

installing the catch can will most likely mean modifying or losing the engine cover.

I took mine off...I didnt want to see plastic when I opened the hood. When I am finally able to get the 6.1 intake manifold installed, it'll look even better.

Also look into the tranzformer shift kit. I love mine. Really transforms the auto trans into something I almost like

That's odd...My car was also in HI for a year.
Funny coincidence with the HI thing. I loved my shift kit I put in my Skylark back in the day. I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the info on the OCC.

I'm totally fine with taking the engine cover off. It's ugly. I was going to for the photos but the engine needs some dusting. I freaking love the 6.1 intake manifold. That's going to be on my list of goodies I'm sure.

Thanks! I'm glad at least there's red accents on the interior so it sort of matches.
