Broken motor mounts? (video included)

I feel a little vibration when going slowly over speed bumps and every now and then when I am driving/turning. There is no vibration when idling. I'm positive it's one or more of my motor mounts that are broken.

I took a video.. while foot on the break I first put it in drive and hit the gas several times, then reverse and hit the gas several times, then one or two more times in drive.

I think it is definitely moving more than it should be. In fact I just checked the side mount and the top of it had a small crack on it. I looked at the front mount but didn't 'see' any cracks. Didn't look at the rear mount.

Any ideas if this could be just the side or side and front?

I know the side is pretty easy to fix, so I could do that on my own. Front, I would need the help of a buddy who works on cars a lot. Rear.. I hope it isn't the rear.

Definitely needs new mounts. Getting a lot of movement from the front mount. If the side cover is cracked I'm sure it needs it too. Check your upper transmission mount. Easy to visually look at once you remove your air filter/intake. Rear would be a good idea since broken mounts put more stress on the other mounts.

I replaced my front, side, & upper transmission a few months ago and had similar movement to yours. I have my rear mount ready to go in, just haven't taken the time to do it yet. Both my side and front were completely detached. My upper trans had two of the 4 sides broken. They make a big difference once you replace them! Good luck

To do it myself, can someone confirm the side and front ... and rear part numbers I need to replace?

OEM Acura TL 2004 ENGINE MOUNTS (AT) (-'06) parts

Front: 50830-SEP-A21
Side: 50820-SEP-A21 ?
Rear (if I decide to do it): 50810-SEP-A02

Anything else I'd need to replace them myself?

Crazy because I called my dealer earlier and they quoted me $230 for the front, $80 for the side and $208 for the rear.. $160 more than our vendor.

Yes, that's correct

#11 is your side mount 50820-SEP-A21

#12 is your front mount 50830-SEP-A21

#8 is your rear mount 50810-SEP-A02

The service manual says to replace the bolts. I did since they aren't expensive. Lots of people just reuse the old ones without problem.

Check over your upper transmission mount before you make your order. It's number 17, 50870-SEP-A01. It's not uncommon for that to go and easy to visually inspect. Might want to see if your lower transmission mounts are good too, #s 15 and 16.

Check ebaY and rockauto. Those are the places I bought mine. Aftermarket and they work just fine! The front mount I bought on ebaY has an even better warranty than the OEM's, 5 years versus 1 year.

Ok so I'll replace the front and side. As far as rear is concerned.. I know people say you might as well replace the rear if you replace the other 2. Does it look like I'll need it replaced or could it still be good?

And does anybody have a oemacuraparts.com promo code?

Had my timing belt done last week and had them look at the motor mount. The thing was destroyed. Lots of play and the rubber was all torn up. Had them put a new mount in and it's like a new car. So much smoother, better on/off throttle transition. I'd recommend to anyone that they at least have it looked at if the car is getting older.

BTW - My TL is a 5AT, which is much easier on motor mounts due to the fact that you can't really launch it hard. I'd imagine 6MT mounts would be more prone to failure.

Well, my car buddy is out of town for a while and I don't have all the tools myself to replace them. I called around and asked for quotes and eventually went with an Acura dealer here.

They charged me $290 labor to replace the 2 mounts, which I am very happy about (they said my rear mount was actually in perfectly good condition so didn't need to replace that one). The dealership I bought the car from and have always been to in the past first said it would cost $530, then I called a day later to get a second quote and they said $850.... you gotta be kidding me. Anywho, I think I found a new dealer if I need any service I can't do myself.

Also, my front lower arm compliance bushings were almost completely shot. I was like whatever just do that too. Sucks that the part is so cheap but the labor is such a bitch. Oh well.

Yes, I spent more than I would have liked, but considering my car is 11 years old and has 147k miles on it, I knew I'd be spending this amount sooner or later.

And now it drives SO much better. No more rattling, and much tighter steering. I can't remember it being like this lol.

Ya the parts are cheap as hell. $30 each through our vendor here but $60 each through the dealer. 3 hours labor.... so about $400

I'm replacing my side and front mounts. My local Acura dealer met the online price so I got them there. I've got the Acura Service Manual but I can't find the torque settings for the bolts that hold the assembly to the frame. I've used every search criteria I can think of and went through stuff page by page. My eyes are either worse than I thought or I just missed it. Can anyone tell me where they are in the manual or just tell me what the settings are for the flange bolts for the side and front mounts? Thank you.

They wouldn't be in the service manual. I found a 1 page diagram in the owner's manual, but it was useless. Yeaa...

Hey man. I hope it not too late, but i'll pass on the experience.

I bough my 3 engine mounts for under 100$ on ebay from this seller:
Engine Motor Mounts Front Right Rear SET KIT 3 2 L FOR Acura TL 0418 | eBay

It came recommended from a friend that told me he also dealt with him about 4 years ago for his TL and still today, those inexpensive motor mounts are going strong. They come with a 5 year warranty, which is 4 years more than almost any other seller online or in store. His feedback is stellar...and for the few negative feedbacks he has, people complain for delivery errors or delays. In any case, i got those a few months ago and so far so good, but my friend has an 04 and he showed me the receipt for his mounts and they were bought in may 2011. For 100$, it's an amazing deal. He also has the full kit of transition mounts, you can buy the tranny kit seperate or with the engine mounts and all 6 come under 150$

FYI, I didn't see anything on ebay regarding package deals that included a transmission upper mount that resembled a mount for an 2007?-2008 Auto Trans car. If you look at their compatibility charts they list an 08... but if you look at description it only goes to 06 for base... but all the way to 08 for S model(?). I would confirm with seller about this mount if you really need it. In my case I do... so I wound up ordering just the motor mounts as a package deal from ebay and ordered the trans mount from OEM Acura Parts. See above a couple of pics of trans mount.

Do you know how these compare to OEM as far as comfort? I heard aftermarket motor mounts tends to cause alot of vibration through the cabin? Has anyone else tried these?

Received my Ebay specials. Did not install Ebay side mount closest to firewall. Ebay special did not have vacuum hookup. Bought OEM side/rear mount and installed instead so I don't have to deal with it again for awhile. I did install Ebay special on the side mount closest to radiator. After one week it is leaking a yellow fluid that smells like rubber. Lesson learned. Ebay Chinese mounts are junk. Ya, I got the 5 yr warranty... but what good is it? Warranty on junk is a junk warranty. I'll replace with OEM and never go with Chinese ebay junk again for something like this...
