CSL style add on trunk lid

Just a thought.....
Would anyone be interested in something similar to this for our 3G TLs? Need a poll.

Reason why I ask is I am in the process of making an addon CSL style add on trunk lid in fiberglass or carbon fiber.

Well as of now, I shipped out my trunk to have it custom made at the east coast. He called and ask me if I were to be interested in either an 1 off kit which means only 1 will have it or if I would like to sell it. I told them to give me a price as of how much they will charge me on the mold so I will see if it feasible to sell it here on the forum. So as of pricing I don't have a solid price yet. I just want to see a show of hands who would be interested.

For sure no custom shit needed. Just go on top of the existing trunk as I told them specifically how I wanted. So guarantee perfect filament!

I will keep you all posted as days goes by. Trunk is there already just in the process of doing the custom works. Should see the first stage in a week or 2.

I just need to see if there's interest.

Imagine this from the TL Concept:

But instead of the whole trunk, it will be like this just the rear lip add on piece

This was based on the TL concept and BMW M3 CSL. I had an idea like a year ago after I did my front CF lip and rear CF diffuser. But when that person did my stuff he was no longer working on it. So I try to source out a few body shop here and there and finally found one and ask them if they are willing to do that at low cost and high quality. SInitially, I was only going to do it for myself - an one off custom trunk for myself. But they got back to me and said since this look very nicely done, why not sell them. So I told them if the price is right then i might consider. Only difference between the one I have and the one you all going to have is that my will be one piece (hence it will be seam onto the trunk that I sent to them) the one that you all are getting are the add on piece. You can have it either in fiberglass or carbon fiber. For carbon fiber you can have it paint over it with your body color.

The one Im getting will be molded on to my trunk. The one you all getting will be an add on piece just like the one from that picture of the BMW. If you wanted molded onto the trunk yes but cost more and you need a spare trunk for them to make it. That is why I kind of hesitant to post on the forum because of the high cost if you wanted to mold on to your trunk. if it's an add on it's better and cost effective.

I admagine that this is gonna be alittle expensive to begin with. A carbon fiber piece will just be ridiclous I suppose.

I'm not worried about the extra 15lbs ........just wondering if we can find a super trunk spring that will catapolt the trunk lid with this on.

It doesn't really "catapult" now Captain! I will say "pop" is more accurate, lol. As for the new design...I'll keep mine Acura. Not that I think it would look bad, it just doesn't look Acura. I like the finer lines, not the bulkier look that would bring. Some people mod their cars to make them look like Lexus, or BMW, or Benz. I actually like the look of our cars, so I try to do mods that stay within that area. If I liked the way those cars looked better, then I would have bought that. Some changes with the lighting, based on other vehicles, are acceptable to me, but not the body.

I guess it's just a matter of preference is all.

I would definitly purchase a trunk with it already molded on, as the TL concept shows or as the real m3 csl is, I think that would like sick. Add on might look a little tacky?...I guess we will have to see.

Add on piece would be a lot cheaper than the molded onto the trunk. If you are willing to spend on a spare trunk then ya, the fabricator can do it.

I hope the add on piece would be that tacky, because I told them how I wanted. I hope by the idea I came up with, then you all would satisfy with my idea. But ya pricing will be posted by the end of the month hopefully.

The add on piece will be in fiberglass or clear coated with carbon fiber. So for color, it is up to you. You can do what ever you prefer.

Looks OK, but I don't know if you will get much more than a few sales on this idea. Seems like a very niche market, only a few people are going to go for this and will keep the price high. I've said this hundreds of times on other threads but if you have contacts with a fabricator who is willing to do some custom work like that, you have a great open source to market a mod that will sell in more volume.

What will really sell and make you some money is a grille mod. It will appeal to a greater number of people. If someone could come up with a something like that and it looks right it will sell for sure. At the moment, just like this trunk piece, there are no aftermarket alternatives. Or you can venture into a tasteful bodykit, something that slots between an A-spec (mild) and RJ kit (wild) with a price that fits. How about lower mesh grilles with built in fogs like 07s that will fit 04-06s? People will buy those, trust me.

I think this will sell very well....Heres what the 3G TL really needs though...

Aftermarket lip kit

Grille (like the Mugen grille for the TSX)

Lower grille, like rockyfeller said

Front strut bar to support EDFC motors

I think the fabricator can do the Grille. But need to ask them first.

The TL doesnt need a new front strut bar, the Greddy works just fine as iti s right now, ive only bolted in 2 so far for the last 5k miles and it works PERFECTLY. so that is forsurley not needed.

Paint the front grille black, no need for a new front grille

new underbody kit, sure w.e if u want.

lower grille sure, alot would b interested, cheap and would look good. but the lower grilles can be meshed out and that looks GREAT.

we need THIS

tURBOCHARGER
Supercharger

Carbon Fiber Hood
Carbon Fiber Trunk
CF aspec kit
hood scoop would b AGREESIIIVEEE
any others please add.

the greddy exhaust is definatly needed or borla would b nice

theres alot of things we need for our cars, and if simple companies would realize this, then it would b a major monopoly, which would result in alot of money in profiting.

The CSL tail is, well, sorta BMWish. Let's keep it lookin JDM. That's right, I'm talking something Mugen style like the TL concept or these TSXs. No more wimpy TL, make it aggressive with a kick ass look. (I like the 2nd pic actually. A sorta different look, the grille is sorta squared off, instead of the stock V-theme, 1 piece with the bumper)

No, that can't happen like that. Because just like Rondog was telling me, and also PPLAPW before I did mine, that you don't "replace" our grille. You have to CUT it out of there (bumper cover) in order to make a new grille. The bar going across prevents any other kind of mod that doesn't just attach to the front of it. And the bar mods suck to me (add ons)! Trust, someone else had that weak shit and you don't want that!

So for the grille, either you are ALL IN, or you aren't! No half-steppin'!!

Rocky, you been sittin' in on the grille thread dawg! You know that man! The TSX can "replace" the grille...the TL has to "remove" it.
