'05 Acura TL Tranny Fluid Change HELP

Hi, I am going to be changing out my transmission fluid and was wondering can I just put straight Redline D4 ATF in or do i have to mix with other fluids? Also is Redline better then DW-1? My car is all stock and I would just like to follow my maintenance on it. Is it the Redline D4 ATF or get the Redline D4 ATF RACING? ITs for an AUTO. Any help would be great!

The general advice is, never use anything other than DW-1. The cars are designed for this fluid. Why risk it?

If dw1 is z1's replacment. And d4 is also z1 replacement. It doesnt matter. Although redline d4 is considered one of the best. Go with d4. If you like it start adding racing.

You just joined Acurazine a few months ago back in may so I can understand why you would say that but if you do some research you'll realize a lot of us are actually using RedLine.

There's a thread that goes into detail about the use of RedLine and the optimal % of RedLine racing if you decide to go that route.

I'm using 2 quarts Type-F racing + 1 quart D4.

Been running that for almost 3 years and 40,000 miles now...

I would recommend just straight D4 for you.

Yes you can and I think you mean Type-F Racing...

There's no such thing as D4 Racing

Great advise, make sure you change the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches as well..

Why not D6? It's Redline's equivalent to DW-1

Please do read through the threads. I spent a few weeks reading through all those posts and they were extremely helpful. Running 1 part Racing, 1 part Lightweight, 1 Part D4. Trans tight and firm 117k

fluid is not going save your trans. the design is bad and as such they will eventually fail, it's not if but when. SOME are lucky and they go 200K plus. MOST are not and will have to replace it at some point.

Use OEM DW-1. Don't use anything less than 90% DW-1. If you blend in 10% or so of Redline fluid, such as the racing fluid, then it will allow for less slippage. And that is good at higher speeds or long distances where you want you tranny to stay fully engauged and reduce wear on pressure plates. But I have experienced using too much Redline fluid to the point it would not shift properly. Not sure why, but it would not go into gear. So, I went way back toward DW-1. And now I am probably about 80% DW-1 and 20% redline racing fluid. When I edged back to where I am now, I noticed I actually had more horsepower in the Mid-range because the fluid allowed the engine to slip up to a higher RPM at a low speed and it took off like a bat, rather than lug. So here, slippage is good for these 6-banger Honda cars that need RPM to go.

Analysis: some slippage is good for "power range", but too much slippage is bad and can wear out your pressure plates prematurely. So, that is why I think some racing fluid might be ok, but don't go too much. And the D4 is supposed to be more compliant with the Acuras. However, if you go with D4 you might as well stay with DW-1 OEM. BTW, a lot of motor heads like to use Honda transmission fluid. Like motorcycle guys.

tranmission fluid is sort of dynamic. Is some ways it allows for less slippage, but while your ECM is relearning, it may slip a lot for a few miles. But after the ECM relearns, the net is less slippage. The reason I think tranny fluid is dynamic is because there are friction characteristics as well as hydraulic characteristics. So, it can be complex as to how a transmission responds to various kinds of fluid. It can be hard to predict and understand
