And "Manny is not returning to Boston" according to Ortiz. Discuss.

Don't you think Roger will go into the hall as a Red Sox ?

3. Call me a sap, but I like the Clemens symmetry here -- nine years after the big lug fled to Canada and decided to start doing situps again, the Red Sox finally replaced him with another hard-throwing Texan who wears No. 21. Perfect. Maybe after a few 20-game seasons and some Cy Youngs, Beckett can start eating like a Shetland Pony, get hurt for four straight seasons, then sign somewhere else and hire a personal trainer. Fantastic.

(Wait, why am I bitter? We won the World Series last year! Scratch the Clemens bitterness … sorry, I was on auto-pilot there. My bad. Still, they better give Beckett No. 21. Clemens was the one who stepped onto the field during the "Living Legends" ceremony in July, 1999 -- right before the same All-Star Game that featured an ailing Teddy Ballgame's last appearance at Fenway, no less -- wearing a Yankees cap even though he'd been playing for them for four freaking months. Thanks for the memories, Rog. As far as I'm concerned, all Red Sox ties were severed that day. Beckett gets No. 21.)

I think wearing #21 would probably jinx himself .

Did they make Ortix General Manager when I wasn't looking

We've been trying to get rid of Manny for years now... Heck, we placed him on waivers.... Someone could have picked him up without having to trade anyone... Just pay his salary... Nobody wanted him then.

I keep hearing that Manny wants to be on the west coast, but I think ultimately, he'll end up with the Mets, or in Boston next year...

I would think so, but to tell you the truth, I don't think it really matters...

I don't really remember what ChickenMan (Wade Boggs) went in as, but I'm assuming it was as a Red Sox, even tho' his most famous moment was riding that damn horse in a yankees uniform

The Mets are always an option, but there's talk of the Angels this go-round too. Will be interesting, in any event. I love Manny and appreciate what he brings to the team, but all that money opens all kinds of doors.

Yeah, I'm sure you've heard the jokes about how manny was able to go unnoticed at the Mall out there, so that's why he's interested in the Angels, but I'm not sure if it'll happen... Manny is just making too much money.

There's talk about Wells going to the Padres for Dave Roberts (can he play center field ??) too...

Looks like they'll be alot going on even if we don't have a GM...

Can a Masshole shed some light into why the BoSox are always trying to get rid of Manny (and vice versa in terms of asking to be traded)...?

I think it's a combination of his huge salary and the fact that he is always asking to be traded. He's a left-over from the time of ridiculous contract deals and I'm guessing they think the money might be better spent elsewhere. The fact that he's always asking to be traded only makes the decision easier.

And why is he always asking to be traded? What has the Red Sox organization ever done to "disrespect" him (you can disrespect me ANYDAY if you paid me that much...hell, you can whip me with dental floss)...?

I doubt that Manny will be a Met next year. Unless they package Heilman with Delgado for an even swap

I think his biggest gripe is with the whole media spotlight thing here in Boston. He wants, as Greenie pointed out, to be able to walk around the mall without being swarmed. The boston talk radio circuit is very unforgiving and many players throughout the years have had their complaints...

Manny lives down here. We can afford him.

I have a Phil Plantier rookie card for Topps Stadium Club. Was worth like $50 now it's like 5 cents. n:

I agree. I don't see them flipping Delgado to Boston. I think they should concentrate on getting a catcher and some relief pitching.

A catcher is a must. I'm hoping for Molina because I want a defensive specialist. More important than bullpen help is a second baseman. I think Matsui should be shot in the leg.

There bullpen will vastly improve when they get Wagner and they have Looper as a setup man. Thats a pretty nasty lefty/righty 1-2 punch.

I'm happy with Delgado.

I think they should bat in this order...

Reyes, Beltran, Wright, Delgado, Floyd, Nady, Hopefully Molina, Matsui, Pedro

Rowand for Thome is the worst trade I've seen in a while. Why would the ChiSox want to take on Thome's huge contract and have a player that's 7 years older?

I believe the ChiSox would have demanded that the Phillies take on a chunk of Thome's contract. I'd be VERY surprised if they are taking on all of it...

Even still. Thome is 35. I can't imagine he'll play a lot next season. He only played 59 games last season.

He's definitely not what he was when he was with the Indians...and definitely a downgrade from Konerko. However, let's see what the ChiSox do next...

The phillies are giving cash along with Thome, the amount is still under negotiation, but it is supposed to be a substantial amount

i cannot believe the White Sox are actually doing this. Now I understand Rowand is starting his decline, but Thome is a year or 2 away from becomming Frank Thomas.

Also, as many have said, there's NO way in hell the Sox are taking the contract from Philly. The Sox don't have much to spend, let alone spend what could've been Paul Konerko money on Thome. I could be wrong, though. I still can't believe this is happening, very dumb move. Maybe it's the beginning of another trade

Cubs are getting Bob Howry; 3 years, $12 million pending a physical.

GOOD. The Cubbies need some bullpen arms. And while they're at it, get a darn leadoff hitter!

Eric Wilbur brings up a possiblity here:

http://www.boston.com/sports/nesn/wi..._and_the_mets/

"so there's a chance the Mets could turn Delgado and Lastings Milledge to Boston for Ramirez, even though there is no guarantee that Ramirez would accept a deal to the Mets, his right as a 10-5 (10 years in the league, five with the same club) man in Major League Baseball."

Take Manny and Kelly, for Delgado and Milledge...

I'm sure we can work out some type of deal

I'm not sure... I was doing some "research" and found that one for the red sox. I'm sure someone must have written up one for baseballs top prospects for all teams or for a specific team (like the soxprospects page)...

That's a little more than half. The Sox are going to regret having to pay Thome even half his contract.

I agree, and if they sign konerko say goodbye to Mr. White Sox, Frank Thomas

Konerko - 1B
Thome - DH
Thomas - Short End Of The Stick

total they are FUCKING up team chemistry
