They can have alot of stuff we can't . Red/blue lights, they can run lights, all kind of things..the tint on a police car usually is there to serve some purpose, not just look cool. Not giving you crap, just answering your question.

I was stationed in Norfolk and lived in the Va. Beach area for quite a while. First thing is, don't count on being military to get you any breaks. What you have to remember is, ALL they deal with in Va. Bch/ Norfolk is military. They don't give many military breaks at all.

The other thing is, as far as everyone else whining that they got stopped for somthing stupid like speeding or tint and........actually got a ticket........is that one, you were breaking the law. No matter how petty anyone thinks it is. Two, guess how many guns, drugs, and violent offenders get caught because of regular things like stopping a car for a tailight out? ALOT!

Not defending all cops, there are some real dumass cops out there. You guys are right, Va. Troopers are some of the worst ones out there, and Va. Bch is no joke either. I just get tired of hearing everyone complain on all these sites that "some cop had the NERVE to stop me cause I was doing somthing wrong." If you did it, sit there and take it...........

I know I'm gonna get it for that though........

Oh yeah, and with out of state tags, you should still be ok for the most part with the tint. The headlights and tailights they could still probably get you for, but I doubt most would bother. Nice car, btw.

Yeah your right..Like I said Ill probably just end up going a little darker than what I have now. Why bother getting in trouble or waiting for someone to say somethin..The headlights and tail lights are gettin ready to be switched over back to normal though pretty soon. It looks cool but the headlights suck at night. So i bought some cleared out heads and put 10000k bulbs in em..Now Im just waiting for the tail lights to get here and Im set.

As for a radar detector..Still dont have one of those, but then again I dont really drive like too much of an a** to need one. Although I have heard that they dont allow them down there too..

officer: "your tint is too dark"
me: "oh..oh yeah oops that kinda happened a while ago"

ok, i live in nc but work for a fire dept in the hampton roads area. Yeah the cops up here can be pretty strict on a lot of things. Especially beach cops, don't look at them wrong. Overall its all what cop you pass that day man, for every jerk there is alot of cops that just care about things a little more important then tint. Now you bust by them at 90 yeah your gonna get a ticket. And as far as the 3,000 dollar fine, your not gonna a judge around here that will be that big a jerk to you. Most think thats rediculous as well.

I live in VA in fairfax but my license is for MD and never in a million years will i switch my address to a VA address. The speeding laws are just ridiculous but they bend over more when you are a VA resident. As far as tint I have 35% and they haven't messed with me, the law is 50% front, the rest 35%.

Hey man,

Let me first give you a warm welcome to VA. I grew up in virginia and although the past 6 years I've lived in new jersey I've had Virginia registered cars up until a couple months ago. I typically would go to virginia a few times a month and never once had a problem with either of my cars. I've been pulled for speeding (rt 13) and got a few looks but never was pulled. I was always in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area where cops are pretty strick. Both by cars had 5% all around with the exception of the windshield.

I really don't see you have any problems during the daytime. One thing that saved me was the Navi in the TL...I would have the brightness on when I knew was in police patrolled areas as it would put out enough light in the cabin so that you could tell how many people were in the car which is all the cops are really worried about...unless of course they are just out to bust your balls... and if that's the case then they will find anything to get you.

You will have a big advantage since your in the military. If you ever get pulled over make sure to hand the officer your military-id along with your drivers license. It will still all depend on the officer when you get pulled but I really think you'll be fine. Like I said man for the past 7 years I've been going back and forth and I've had zero problems. Prior to that when I was living in virginia and obviously a few years younger my cars were also tinted out with 5% and I never had any trouble. It comes down to your driving habits too.

Whatever the case man... Good Luck... and thank you for serving our country and doing what you do best!

My apologies for dragging this post out.. I guess being in the car as my wife is driving us to the casino there isn't anything better to do

One thing I will add is you is that as long as you don't have tint on your winshield, you WILL pass inspection with no problems. I'm not sure if it was mentioned but it's no longer a law in virginia to fail inspections for tints. It's up to the police to handle it now, which is also why it's become a little stricter.

Still though... roll on down with the tints on and if you start having trouble you can just remove them and change the %

I have a good relationship with Atlantic Shoreline <http://www.atlanticshoreline.com> located in Virginia Beach. They do a first class job. Also I would suggest going to Cars Inc. in chesapeake for any mods you might be considering.

Just to add a extra comment about this tint situation. When I recently recieved my tint citation, I talked to the sheriff a little afterwords about how to handle this ticket, and he said"take the tint off and show proof that u did at a local dmv, or pay the 170 fine! And I really couldnt believe it. I mean I knew it was illegal to have the tint that dark, so I guess it was my fault but F*** takin it off!!. But one thing he said only a few hundred or so cops are even given a tint meter reader, and so happens he had one, so alot of the cops that u seein prob dont have a tint meter reader,so they dont bother, cause with no proof they have no case!!

At least its either take it off or pay the fine, in MD its take off in 30 days or your tags get suspended

I'm from Northern Virginia so I can't really vouch for the cops in the beach area. However, the state troopers are strict on speeding but the courts are leniant on knocking the speeds down in court, so watch out for that. The tint you'll get a few cops who will hassle you about it on a slow night, I've only been pulled over once ever for the tints. Performance mods and what not they don't do anything about unless your exhaust is obnoxious or you're driving like an ass. I'm lowered, I only scrape on speedbumps, but once again that's NoVa, not sure how the roads are down there though. But good luck. And keep the Rhode Island tags, it'll bail you out of a lot of fix-it tickets.

i go to school in harrisonburg (western VA) and (i don't know how true this is) but i heard that virginia gives a $3,000 surcharge on top of your ticket? i don't keep my car down there (not til next year), but thats all i heard. so before you get to VA, put your detector in the trunk and go the speed limit. i also heard they force you to go back to VA for court, no matter where you live.
