I really want to try and replace the highlander with a cherokee when the lease is up...but sadly my wife wasn't as impressed as I hoped when she sat in one at the auto show.
She was impressed by the new highlander...which is the opposite direction of where she said she wanted to go
She also liked the Fiat 500L a lot...oy.

500L is nice enough...a piggy back ECU will give it the same 200hp venom tune you can get for the Abarth.
But for as the primary kid hauler car for twins...no.

Jeep will introduce its all-new Cherokee small SUV to the European market at March's Geneva Motor Show. The Cherokee's European rollout will include the launch of two new diesel engine options.
After a successful 2013 launch in the United States, the Cherokee will arrive in European showrooms during the second quarter of 2014. The Cherokee will be offered in three trim levels - Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk.
The Cherokee's familiar 2.4L Tigershark MultiAir four-cylinder gas engine and Pentastar 3.2L V6 will be on the options list, but the big news is the availability of two new diesel mills.
Those European customers looking to row their own gears will be able order a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo diesel, good for 140 horsepower, hooked to a six-speed manual transmission. A 170 horsepower version of that same 2.0L engine will also be offered, but it comes paired exclusively to Jeep's new nine-speed automatic transmission. Both diesel engines generate 258 lb-ft of torque.
The Euro-spec Cherokee will come standard with front-wheel drive, but three different all-wheel drive systems will be on offer.
Jeep hasn't made any announcement regarding the U.S. availability of a diesel-powered Cherokee, but our spy photographs recently spotted an oil burning version of the small SUV testing near Chrysler's tech center in Michigan, indicating it could be a possibility.

Sucky thing...the diesel no matter how much I want it is a $3k option in GC and Ram...will be no different in the Cherokee...makes it not worth it.

ok...$2500 more
I really want to push for a trail hawk model...but what sucks is the full size spare eats up the nice little hidden storage in under the rear deck carpet. Which makes the limited more attractive.
But I think it would be great to be able to take the boys on some light/medium trails every now and then.
But really...who the hell knows what car we'll end up in at this point.

Saw this thing yesterday with the off road package.. looked much better than the awful regular model.

It has gotten off to a very good start - over 10K units moved last month - almost to CRV levels.
The diesel option needs to be like $1K more than the equivalent gas one to make it worth while.

Right now I just really want to know if the 2.4 is really good or if the V6 is the better choice.

Test drove
drove a FWD 2.4
FWD 3.2
and trailhawk 3.2
The first two were base/latitude models because I just wanted a feel for the engine...
2.4
Its "good enough" as in for someones daily driver this combo should work fine. It has some pep, chassis is solid, flip it over to tiptronic and downshift for passing power.
Personally, I found it a tad laggy...but the estimated mpg are pretty dang good, so its worth considering. I think its like 22/31mpg
3.2
smooth, decent torque....I was able break the front tires free and squeal out from a stop. A much buttery drive with more linear feeling power on tap. mpg is less of course, but not terrible I think it was 19/28mpg.
The chassis is smooth, car-like but fun. Its very tossable in corners, and I enjoyed the ride.
Trailhawk 3.2
Of course this would be my choice because I would to off road it a little bit. mpg is the worst at 18/25...but I don't think I would want to try the 2.4 in this trim with the 4WD system. I think it would just be horribly slow.
The suspension is MUCH more truck like in feeling...but still nice and tight with nicely weighted steering, it can still corner pretty well.
Driving these confirmed what I would fear...that I like them that much more. And I really want my wife to pick this as our highlander replacement. But she has final say...so we'll see.
Also drove a KIA sorento SX...it was nice...but I didn't love it.

2014 Jeep Cherokee Urbane Concept

Press release...
The new Jeep Cherokee Urbane design concept couples the night life of a modern megacity with glamour and elegance. The Urbane features a sleek, Maximum Steel metallic exterior with Hyper Black accents on the roof rack, door mirror caps, grille collars, front and rear fascias, wheel finishings, vehicle badging and antenna.
The cabin of the Urbane embraces the Chinese spirit, colors and patterns. Chinese calligraphy is referenced through the use of bold brush stroke patterns in the decorative door applique accentuating the predominantly Piano Black interior. The seats are finished in dark red Nappa leather with bright red accent stitching. The floor mats feature a unique decorative pattern inspired by traditional Chinese windows.
In China, the all-new Jeep Cherokee is equipped with the 3.2-liter V-6 Pentastar and the 2.4-liter MultiAir petrol engines coupled with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

2014 Jeep Cherokee Sageland Concept

Senior Moderator
Press release...
Earlier this year the new Jeep Cherokee was launched in the Chinese market featuring modern Jeep design, best-in-class capability and the first nine-speed automatic transmission in its segment. With the introduction of the Sageland and Urbane design concepts, the Jeep brand demonstrates how the reach of the Cherokee could expand in new directions.
The design theme and color palette for the new Jeep Cherokee Sageland was inspired by the historical landmarks and natural sceneries found throughout the mystical expanse of the Shangri-La Region.
The concept’s exterior is painted in Ivory tri-coat Pearl with bronze grille collars and front and rear fascia appliques. The Daylight opening (DLO), roof rack, door mirror caps and exhaust tips are painted in Satin Bronze chrome, enhancing the overall look and adding to the unique style of this vehicle.
Inside Sageland, the earth-tone color palette continues with a combination of light, neutral grey Nappa leather seats with red and water blue accent stitches. The seats also feature stitching inspired by traditional Chinese knot design, and the pattern on the door appliques derived from the color and finish of Chinese ornamental door knobs.

They are selling them in droves.

They can't keep the Cherokee in stock around here. I am seeing several on the road every day. I would say FiaMopar has a success on its hands.

Are Jeeps Cherokees reliable? I do see many of them...so, clearly, they do sell decently.

How do you define "reliable?" The thing hasn't even been out a year, yet. If by "reliable" you mean - There hasn't been a rash of these things burning to the ground - then, yes, they are more reliable than a 991 GT3.

residuals still suck...just working with the guy I got my challenger from every so often to see whats what.
even with usaa true car, its hard.
Its also hard to find one optioned the exact way I want. Dumping the Toyota early is proving a pain, too.
So, we'll see.
