Local Honda dealer, drove by on Saturday morning, still has far more used cars on their lot than new Hondas. At least from the street view, the entire street-facing row was pre-owned & mostly non-Honda.
Similar with the very large dealer on my commute, very empty lot.

Could be that both are selling as soon as cars hit the lot & as such they've just got more trade-in invenotry.

^ +1, our neighbor's daughter just purchased a 2023 CR-V hybrid (a reckless driver totaled her parked Hyundai Sonata). She paid slightly below list, called ~40 dealerships and pricing was right around MSRP. Her mom said she picked it up after work the day it arrived and was prepped, there were a handful of other's owners also picking their up their CR-V's from the same delivery. The dealership's CR-V SME did his ~1 hour CR-V introduction class (pairing phone, infotainment, basic driving features, checking fluids, even changing a flat tire) in the parking lot with the new owners, sales manager picked up ChicFila for everyone since it was getting late.

A lot of dealers near me bought up a ton of used vehicles over the last year or two, and now they're sitting on them because they're asking too much. New inventory seems to be sold once it rolls off the truck.

The TLX is so dead it's not even funny. Does anyone care about the TLX Type-S?

RDX finally rebounded. I thought it was selling too low for a while.

Can't sell what you don't make. Looks like Acura may have shifted some MDX production over to the RDX given that the MDX is starting to sit on lots these days.

But yeah, TLX is dead in the water. It's such a hard sell these days. A premium sporty sedan that is more geared towards "drivers" but doesn't have the oomph to back it up in the engine department isn't a recipe for a sales hit. It'd have to be exceptional to make up for all the headwinds (i.e. shifting consumer preference to crossovers), and unfortunately it isn't. Merely being competent isn't enough to win over buyers.

Cue the "well, everyone's probably waiting for the 2024 refresh" excuse.

Other than the addition of wireless CP/AA and digital dash, there's not much changing on the TLX.
Removal of the 360 camera and the Advanced trim will be a huge blow to sales (or not...and possibly the reason for the removal).

You have to wonder, if the refreshed TLX moves less than 15K units globally, is competing in this segment still worth it for Acura? The Integra is here to stay even if it's a sales stinker (which it isn't) because so much of the R&D and production costs are already absorbed by the Civic, but the TLX is (supposedly) on a bespoke platform with relatively little reuse. I imagine the ROI on the TLX has to be significantly worse than the RDX and MDX, and an order of magnitude worse than the Integra. Perhaps this generation will get stretched out and see two refreshes (much like the ILX did) as Acura tries to milk out whatever it can before it switches over to EVs. Or, perhaps follow the path laid out by the Integra by saving money and just making it a nicer/sportier Accord, and instead deploy that capital towards a new crossover.

Tesla 3 is the one car in that segment that's selling well. Throughout the year the TLX sales have varied quite a bit (perhaps supply chain is still affecting Honda?). Middle of the year it outsold the A4 (admitted there is also the A5 coupe) but still the TLX is in the middle with other cars in this segment. A 2/1 ratio of monthly car sales through the same model year sorta indicates something is going on.

To have achieved a 33-percent increase over last year’s sales is an incredible testament to the strength of our products, dealer network and brands,” said Mamadou Diallo, senior vice president of Auto Sales at American Honda Motor Co. Inc.
LOL what a bunch of marketing/sales bull. The 33% increase in sales was because supply returned to normacy; 2022 was absolutely horrid due to supply chain issues. They went from 1.2M units in 2020 to 1.3M units in 2021 down to 881K units in 2022 and back up to 1.16M units in 2023. The increase had nothing to do with "the strength of our products, dealer network and brands" and everything to do with solving the supply issue. SMH marketing trying to take credit for the work of the operational side of the house.

The CR-V is a great vehicle.

I'm not the least bit surprised by Acura's YoY decline.

To be fair, at least here in California, there are very few 2024 models for sale. Within 500 miles of me, there are only 10 available.

That said, it's entirely possible that Acura doesn't think there's demand here anyways, and thus aren't sending any to dealerships in the area. That would be consistent with what I heard from a salesperson last month; trying to move these cars has been like trying to sell fur coats in the dead of summer. Around these parts, a lot of people I know who would have strongly considered Acura and Lexus (younger, educated, first premium/luxury car, etc.) are all in Teslas. I wouldn't be surprised if that's taken a massive bite out of Acura's market share here in CA.

Here's how bananas it is: Acura sold only 15K cars in California last year. BMW sold 64K, Merc sold 69K, Audi sold 39K, and Lexus sold 57K. And while those numbers far exceed Acura, Tesla still sold more than them combined in California: 231K.

The problem is you have EVs that are cheaper than a gas-guzzling TLX! The infrastructure for EVs is a lot better in CA than in the NorthEast for sure!

The infrastructure sure is a lot better, but ironically the energy rates are so high that regular hybrids are cheaper to operate. With PG&E, the off-peak (12AM-3PM) rate is $0.35/kWh, while the peak rate in the winter is $0.54/kWh and in the summer is $0.66/kWh (with more increases coming this Spring).

It's a shame Acura doesn't have any hybrid offering at all anymore. They abandoned them as they tried to catch up to EVs, and now when other companies are moving back to hybrids and PHEVs they're back in catch up mode.

Always Catching Up, Rarely Ahead....

Acura really does have an interesting habit of being visionaries, ahead of their time in creating new technologies, then losing faith in those technologies when the marketplace doesn't full embrace them, then abandoning them just as every other manufacturer catches on and the technology catches on. If Acura still had SH-SHAWD models (at least for the MDX and TLX), I think they'd be top sellers. In fact, if they wanted to they could have made the Type S models hybrids with the focus more on performance than economy (but with variable drive modes to satisfy various customers' desires).
