Surging/lack of power issue

Hi, all. New member and dedicated lover of a 2004 TL 6 speed w/52,000 miles. My baby. I've owned this car for several years and it's always driven like a champ. It's been opened up on more occasions than not, so it gets plenty of exercise. It was all there until recently.

My wife experienced a problem a couple of weeks ago where the car was surging lightly at lower and highway speeds. It feels like the car is getting hit by a gust of wind and then "surging" lightly, back and forth. We had an import guy look at it, tons of codes. He cleared them all and said bring it back as soon as it acts up again. He found nothing and when I drove it to him myself, it was purring perfectly.

I noticed a few days ago it was surging on me. The engine light was NOT on when my wife drove it or when it first happened to me. I have driven it a few days longer and it is still surging. It just broke down on me, the VSA light and engine light came on. I was giving it gas, but it was having no effect. My wife had experienced the same feeling when it acted up on her. (It surges at all speeds and has a feeling like it might cut off (even though it doesn't) when at cruising speed.)

I pulled over, turned the car off, and restarted. VSA went off, but engine light stayed on. Drove it home with the surging issue.

One other possibly related note. About a year ago, the car had left my wife on the side of the road after she let the car run low on gas. It was clearly not out of gas. We had it towed to dealer, they found nothing. Said it could have been garbage in the system since she filled up when a tanker was refueling the system (import specialist says that's bull and a myth.) No problem again till now.

Lastly, the car from day one has always done an odd thing to me when I have a light pedal in first gear. If I let off the pedal just a little at low speed, then lightly engage, it lunge, lunge, lunges until I back off and then give it a firmer pedal. Don't know if that is related or normal for manuals. I owned three Preludes prior and never had an issue with my driving style in first. It also does not do it to my wife.

Thanks for the suggestions!
