I brought the spoiler from ebay for $100 with shipped

2. Tools and supplies required
• Clip remover
• Eye protection
• Drill
• 3 mm , 8 mm and 12 mm drill bits
• Drill stop
• Center punch
• Touch up paint
• Ratchet
• 10 mm Socket
• Screw drive (cross)
• Masking tape
• Felt tip pen
• Shop towel
• Isopropyl alcohol
• Tape measure



3. Open the trunk lid. Remove the right and left bump stops, then remove the trunk lid trim ( 11 clips and one self-tapping crew).












4. Close the trunk lid. Place the template at the left edge of the trunk lid and mark the edge of the trunk lid at the mark on the template. Mark the right side of the trunk the same way. Using a tape measure, measure across the trunk lip at the mark, divide the measurement in half to locate the center of the trunk lid

5. Measure 278mm (10.9 in.) outboard from the center and mark the trunk lip on each side. Position the template on the trunk lip. Using a felt-tip pen, mark the trunk lid as indicated on the template. Do this procedure on each side of the trunk lid.

6. Lightly center- punch the marks. While wearing eye protection, drill 2 – 8 mm holes through the mark you made.
• Using a drill stop on the end of each bit, first drill with a 3 mm drill bit, and finish with an 8 mm drill bit
• Take care not to damage the wire harnesses in the left side of the body when drilling the holes
• After drilling, remove any burrs from the edges of the holes with the 12 mm drill bit and apply touch up paint on both sides of the holes. Allow the touch up paint to dry before you proceeded to next step.



















7. On the inside of the trunk spoiler, attach a strip of masking tape to the ends of the adhesive backings, and remove 1-1/2 to 2 inches of the adhesive backing. Fold the end back, and tape them to the front of the spoiler.



8. Using Isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the ear where the trunk spoiler will attach.



9. Remove the clip that secures the vehicle harness to the trunk lid
10. Fit the spoiler into position on the trunk lid by inserting the 2 studs into the holes in the trunk lid. With an assistant holding the trunk lid open, install a flange nut on the end of each stud. Install the 2 washer bolts, but do not tighten them yet.











11. When the trunk spoiler is aligned properly with the trunk lid, carefully remove the adhesive backing on each side. Hold the spoiler firmly against the trunk lid with the palm of your hand







Note: I did not install the left trunk spring, cos I feel don’t need it

Wow, that's an awesome job! I wasn't as meticulous as you when I had installed it myself on my '05. As a result, it came out at an angle around the edge on the passenger side. Did you end up installing the trunk spring?

I just bought the 3m stick on version from thespoilerstore on ebay and it only took me about 5 min lol. And it is still in place 3+ years later (although I did notice a tinty paint chip).

Since you were going to drill, did you consider the Type S lip spoiler?

I believe it is the Type S lip spoiler because my previous TL's spoiler was different to this one. This one was bigger and flatter.

I haven't decided on how to install the trunk spring because it doesn't affect anything if I did or not.

Very nice and good instructions for anyone who plans on doing this mod in the future.

This for sure is not the Type-S lip spoiler because the Type-S lip spoiler is a lot bigger and more aggressive. Not to mention it kind of follows the downwards curve of the trunk. Here's a picture of a Type-S spoiler for reference.





I think the reason why this new lip spoiler you just bought off eBay is "bigger and flatter" than your previous TL spoiler is because your car previously had a eBay (not OEM) lip spoiler.

My car has a eBay spoiler that I bought for less than $30 on eBay. If that seller had NBP I would have definitely bought it from him, but he doesn't carry NBP.

Pics of my $30 eBay lip spoiler. You can notice how it doesn't really hug the downward curve of the trunk like the Type-S spoiler does.

It came out great- nicely done and the paint match appears excellent. I just used the 3M tape as others here have stated- mine has been on for 5 years and it's really well on there, but bolting it down is always better. I agree the trunk springs really aren't needed.

The factory Type-S spoiler/lip may be more desirable to some, but to me, it's expensive and is more likely to be stolen (as some have experienced), plus, I have an 06 in Anthracite, so it's not even made in that color. I did well with an eBay vendor as well- paint match was perfect.

Well I knew the Type-S spoiler/lip will be more desirable and it's expensive part either the base model as well. I brought the spoiler from the ebay vendor and come with the box label and part number. see pic's for details

Definitely my first mod for my car. I'm willing to spend the 100+ for the OEM decklip... Not a fan of the non-OEM ones found on eBay.

Btw, to the op, which vendor did you buy from? I remember doing a search around the forums for a creditable vendor and they spoke of thespoilerstore.

I came across thespoilercompany, lol.

Annnnndddd I'm probably going with the tape method.
