Hey everyone -

Courtesy Acura just called (My 6MT '06 TSX is in for B1 service at 31.5k)

My rear rotors are seriously warped (steering wheel shaking like crazy during hard braking at high speed - highway traffic jam, etc.)

At checkin, I asked if this was covered under warranty and TSM said no. He said Florida heat combined with humidity and hard rains create warping.

When Brian the TSM called, he said he got the Service Manager and the Director(?) and they decided to cover it because a lot of people were complaining about premature warping of rotors.

Question is - what would it have cost me (parts+labor) for new rear rotors? and Who else had this problem so early?

Also - when did you replace your stock michelins? today I was told i have 5k or so left before they need to be replaced...

I did my rears in about 1 hr (taking my time).

A quick search will provide you with a lot of people who have had rotor issues here. It is very common. I replaced my rotors and pads (and tires) around 30k miles.

That's alright. Honestly, I'm not sure how much the stock brakes are since I went aftermarket.

holy shit, they gave me the riot act when i started trying to get them to fix my rotors. I refuse to purchase another vehicle through them because of how they treated me and my family's bought three!

They told my I was "hauling a load" with my hitch for bicycles and that warped my rotors

Hey I have an 08 with only 11k miles and yes my rotors are warped. Just this morning I was driving a bit fast and I had to brake hard man my steering wheel was going nuts one me. So to the dealer I go.

So an Update -

Courtesy Acura said they were replacing the rear rotors when i spoke to my TSM on the phone

When i got there, he said that they had resurfaced them (grinded them down), however the invoice said they did the FRONT ones.

So of course, I test the job they did on the road out of the dealer, and i was shaking a little less violently than before. But its still not 100%.

I'm thinking about tires, a-spec suspension and rotors and pads in 5k or so. This experience is telling me that OEM rotors and pads are not reliable or long lasting...Is this accurate?

Xtreemespeed - I think they were talking about you when they said "a lot of people have been complaining about this recently, so we're going to do a one time complimentary refinishing" - i read your other threads and I'd like to team up with you.

At one point my TSM - Bryan - said "it's usually the rears that warp first because the TSX has so much weight back there"

lol wtf? The gas tank? I never have cargo or rear passengers and I only weigh 185 and i dont have the seat that far back...

Now...how do i review my experience? Exceptional bc I got a "goodwill" refinishing that only half fixed the issue? IMO, all 4 rotors should have been refinished cause baby, I'm still shakin'!!

Plus, the dealer said to replace each rotor it was $250+ for each. Looking at the PACMan's response above, looks like they upcharge big time at Courtesy Acura, Sanford.

Stock rotors & pads suck. I'd just get some aftermarket ones and be done with it. I haven't had a problem with my power slots and hawks (except for some squealing), and I've had them for about 20k miles now.

Ive given up with them. I refuse to let them resurface my rotors. The last thing you want to do is resurface them especially with someone trying to do a half assed job to get you out of there. Essentially you are taking material off of the rotors making it weaker under hard braking as well as more prone to cracking. When you resurface the rotor you are supposed to take off the smallest amount of material to make the rotor level. Of course this is going to take a bit of time to make sure the machine is calibrated right and everything else. I highly doubt they would do that.

At this point Im saving my pennies to get a sent of brembo blanks and some hawk street pads. Nothing racing, I want these brakes to work cold.

Courtesy Acura is extremely rude to me, and I will be going to Foutain Acura (down by Florida Mall). Both are equidistant so why bother. I do all the maintenance on the car myself as well so Im sure that is what ticked them off. They were paying money to fix warranty stuff and not seeing a dime from me.

Good luck, If you do get something saying they'll cover new parts under warranty please get it in writing. I would love to send something to them requesting the parts and having it done at another place.

Its weird that you would feel the warpage so severely in the steering wheel when its the rear rotors that are warped.

EXACTLY. thats what I said, but the invoice says they did the fronts. I'm wondering if i still feel it a bit because they didnt do the backs like he said they did, i think they did the fronts like the invoice reports.

I think i'm going to do the aftermarket thing the next time the brakes need servicing and find a good local mechanic to install them for me. I'm not paying $600 for new OEMs that will have the same problem...

^^You can get a very nice set of after market rotors(4) and pads(4) plus shipping for ~$600.

I don't have a garage that I could work in. I don't really have room to store a floor jack either. If I were to buy the blanks and the pads myself, where would you recommend taking it to have it done? I live in SE Michigan.

I got the dealership to replace all the rotors and pads for me for free. I noticed it on the test drive. And told them i won't buy the car without new brakes, and they did it. Oh and get rid of the Michelins, worst tire ever. Anything will be better.

Yea. I've got my 04 TSX with new front rotors and pads after noticing a knocking sound while they are still cold and braking. They replaced them without a problem. I've also gotten Yokohama Avim W4S I think... or something similar. They are excellent!

Call around to some places in your area and see if they'll install parts that you buy yourself.

12miles new rotors and pads all around. Rotors were severely warped. Got rid of the OEM crap and upgraded to the racingbrake slotted two piece rotors OEM size and hawk HPS pads. ive been enjoying spirited driving SAFELY since.

I've got a question about pads and this seems as good a place as any to ask it. What do you guys think about Hawk HPS vs Ceramics? I've run EBC Greens on a few different vehicles and liked them but they seem to be decreasingly available for some reason. I've heard lots of praise for Hawk's products but I don't know if I should go with the HPS or the ceramics. The low dusting of the ceramics sounds nice but I've heard they're rough on the rotors. Comments?
