Throttle Body

I have a 3.5 TL and I've heard changing the throttle body from the 3.5 to 3.7 throttle body is a decent mod for some power. First off is this true and how power will it add? But secondly the 3.7 TL throttle body is very expensive so I looked up the 2012 Acura MDX throttle body which is also a 3.7 liter engine, would this fit the TL? Is it the same throttle body as the 3.7 TL? If so should I buy this throttle body for the MDX 3.7 for my 3.5 TL? Thanks guys!

Also is the 2009-2011 throttle body the same as the 2012-2014 throttle body for the 3.7? Because they are different part numbers and the 2012-2014 is a lot cheaper. So are they the same? Please let me know. Thanks

i would go with the mdx.. i believe helltoe has them for sale and ive only see 1 person do the mdx conversion. its a complete bolt on from what i remember.

i believe its just a bigger throttle body in which you can suck more air.

trust me when i say its useless spending money on performance on fwd.. ive considered it and came down to the conclusion that even if you drop 2k into parts.. pound for pound, its not worth it.. most bang for your buck tho is PCD and J-pipe.

also you will probably get more just switching to lighter wheels and better tires.

Gaining any amount of horsepower always feels good haha. But is the 2012-2014 throttle body the same as the 2009-2011? If so wouldn't this be the best for performance?

Also when doing this do I need to buy any other special parts or anything? Or do I just replace the 3.5 throttle body with the 3.7 one??

Lastly if I get the 3.7 throttle body do I need the 3.7 intake manifold as well to receive power gains?

That would be ideal; however it's not a big power difference. You're better off with changing the heads.

I'm sure you can just swap throttle bodies. Id be trying to run a bigger intake however to max the airflow coming in.

what is your end goal for the car?
you cant just add pieces if you dont know what they'll do.

upping the the throttle body is pointless if you're not going to up the intake manifold. and even then, both of these will not net you considerable more horsepower.

you'll spend close to $500 dollars for both the throttle body and the intake manifold which will net you maybe 5-8 hp. on a good day, maybe 10hp.

your current setup is optimized for your 3.5l engine.
What is your end goal for the car?
it just seems like you're throwing parts at it for no good reason at all.

just get lighter wheels, you can actually "feel" the difference.

there are other things that you can do to have fun with your TL.
it doesnt always have to be straight power.

yes, a wider throttle body and the intake manifold will help you make power, but it is very minimal.

I havent even upgraded to the 3.7 throttle body and intake manifold. ( i think it's a waste of money for the gains)

a thicker rear sway bar was one of the most fun mods i've ever done.

The other thing is that this isn't a trouble free mod. Have a look at this thread:

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-112/thinking-about-swapping-my-3-7im-tb-back-stock-3-5-a-903938/

I agree with the other posters here, you can definitely get more gains out of different mods than this.

Justin for the rear sway bar, is there still the problem where the larger sway bar is ruining the frame of the car or was that fixed? Because if its fixed that is something I will definitely be interested in doing

^i heard from potzmilk that they did revise the bar, however, it will still be great practice if you drove straight over bumps.

when one wheel is higher than the other, that bar is under a lot of pressure and will stress one side.
always go over bumps evenly.
