Sorry to offend you Dave .. I know everything you have is best ... cold and snow isn't going to have any effect on the placement of the CAI .... what might is running through deep puddles ( and yes we get puddles in BC along with slush and all the other stuff you think is special to the capital ).
I have run mine in slush, slop , heavy rain and yes , dailey 15-20 cm snow falls per day .. not week, dry and wet snow and as mentioned above you'd have to pretty well submurge the filter to hydrolock it.
If the water is going to splash on it then freeze it will do it before you park .. its called wind chill ... read up on it.
3 winters on mine now and hasn't happened yet.

So i finally ditched the sri and coverted it to a cai. It pulls better and i cant believe how fast it revs from 1000rpm to 7000rpm really really fast. Never noticed it rev so quickly. Also the filter is located perfectly by the lower air vent so the air goes to the filter perfectly. I am still concerned about winter with slush ice snow etc... Touching or getting on to the filter. Anyways we will see how heat soak is in traffic tomorow but it seems to have got rid of it.

wait wut? it's 115F outside and you expect the TL to be a track star?
there is a very large factor here
hotter air is less dense and at 115F coming into the engine bay to be heated up even more will result in a significant loss of power
next the cooling system is not going to be nearly as efficient
ECM takes both of those in accunt when determining the a/f mixture
add to that the fact that the TL engine bay is very tight

Don't mind the BC folk and their weather! I lived there for some time... I recall a few inches of snow was considered a snow day in elementary!
Back in Montreal we still had to go to school when snow got past our waist!
Anyway, I mentioned it in another thread before.
you won't have to worry about the lower vents. Both of mine have been cut significantly and there has been no damage to the TL. Sure, the intake may get wet a little from time to time... but nothing major.
There are occasions where slush stays in the lower vent... but it doesn't go past the openings [if you cut up the lower vent].
Also, I HIGHLY recommend the "UCM". I did it not too long ago and... wow. I can now lay my hand on my hood or fender without being burnt right away!

So, I took the TL for a 10 minute drive with the cowl off. When I got back home... I touched the hood and fender. It had significantly cooled down!

My next mod is to figure out how to get better gas mileage. My 06 TL has 110,000KMS on it but the spark plugs have never been change so I think changing them to IGK plugs or whatever will help.
I get about 340-380kms per tank and 12L per 100kms....
any suggestions OTHER THAN changing my driving habbits?

Without changing driving habits... try
Lightening the load on your vehicle.
Maintaining proper tire pressure (this gets overlooked).
If applicable, drive with nothing on the roof.
