Hello i just bought a used (obviously) 2001 Acura TL it's got 174xxx miles Pretty good shape,it will be my Daily Commuter just wondering a few things

I read that it requires Premium Gasoline or will regular or midgrade be fine?
I read that these 2nd Gen TL's are very very reliable as far as engine,transmission etc. Are there any known/common issues with these 2nd Gen TL's?
Is it hard to Program a keyless remote? I am looking to buy one and would rather not go through the Stealership. I have one from a out of comission 2005 Acura RSX will Did all 2001 Acura TL's Have a keyless remote for the Trunk,doors,factory alarm?

Overall the car is pretty reliable, errr, except the transmission, those things are pretty fragile. If/when your transmission fails, the consensus around here is to swap the transmission for one from a 2006-2007 V6 Honda Accord (with a BAYA manufacturer code).

Based on my previous searches, the octane rating really only affects gas mileage. Someone did the math (if I remember correctly) that said using premium will save you the most money.

As with anything else, it all depends. If you're on a long steady state highway trip then the AKI of the fuel will not matter, however, if you're constantly using all available power, the use of Premium will return more power for less fuel.

I had nothing but trouble when I tried being frugal with my choice of gasoline - I say stick with the premium stuff! Unless you enjoy cleaning EGR ports of carbon build-up.
As the other guys have mentioned, the transmission is the weak point of this car. Definitely go ahead and do a tranny fluid 3x3 drain. A quick search around the forum will get you plenty of info on that! Definitely do NOT take it to a shop to get this done - they'll most likely use a pressure system to swap the fluid, which will just destroy the tranny ahead of time.

I don't know much about the remotes, but I imagine that the remote for a 2005 won't work here - completely different generations of cars. But someone else will have more info than I on this.

Running non-Premium fuel will in no way cause the EGR to carbon up any faster (or slower for that matter) than if you run Premium. Not physically possible.

Must have just been a coincidence then - either way, the manual says to use Premium so that's what I'll keep on doing!

Agreed. I run Premium at all times except for when I'm on a long road trip which doesn't require any heavy throttle applications.

Well It seems like there is a mix of people who Love and Hate there 2nd Gen Acura TL i hope i will not have any issues because i hate working on cars, the only thing i do myself is change my Oil

Hmmm, not sure I've heard much "hate" for the 2G TL, a good car with a bum transmission. I had a 6th Gen V6 Accord sedan (same basic car) and it was an exceedingly competent car; not necessarily inexpensive to maintain, but a good driver for seven years I had it.

I am gonna pray i paid $2400 for it with 174K miles i am praying the water pump,Transmission and Timing Belt Will last me, The Previous owner swear the Timing belt was done at 90K miles they could not get me a receipt may god have mercy on their soul if they lued

So basically you have have 20,000 miles until you need to do the timing belt and water pump and all associated components again.

Can i really trust that they really had the timing belt was really changed? Can you really take people for their word especially nowadays well i am gonna find out.

I would say there is a good bet the belt was changed; the original owner would probably have been on pins and needles for tens of thousands of miles if the belt hadn't been changed.

The Timing belts need to be replaced every 100,000 Miles right? Also are you a firm Believer in Using only the Type2 Coolant? I have 2 jugs is my garage.

Your car came with a 105,000 mile timing belt change interval, or seven years, whichever comes first. As for the coolant, I've analyzed the Honda coolant specs compared to the Zerex Asian formula, and the specs are virtually identical.

What are the intervals for the Transmission Fluid and Filter? There is a guy on youtube who claims to change his every 15,000 miles is that really extreme???

I did the ATF in my Accord every 30,000 miles; seemed to be appropriate. Since the car is new to you, I'd start with what is called a "3x3", drain, refill (three quarts), drive a bit, repeat two more times.
