I changed my tranny fluid yesterday, after about 6 months. Basically my fluid got a bit light brown in the span of 6 months but my mechanic said it may be the old fluid. (I've never done 3x3), just this third fluid change in the span of 10 months. Once when I got the car, then once 4 months later, then this recent one. He recommended to install a transmission oil cooler for 250$ cause he says it'll be helpful as a preventative maintenance and to help the fluid stay cool. My question is, is this worth it? I honestly don't know how my transmission fluid could have turned light brown in 6 months, not to mention my shifting started being bad until yesterday, I added a Lucas stop slip in there too and now it shifts fine. My other mechanic recommended me to just change the fluid more often when it shifts poorly.

What do you guys think? Which mechanics advice should I go for? My transmission honestly shifts fine now after the fluid change. How did my tranny become bad after 6 months???

Transmission cooler does not help. I did that on my Acura 2003 Tl no help. Its the 3rd Clutch Servo that fails on the tranmission. The 2005 and up has been strenghten. If you get your transmission rebuilt make sure they get the new revised kit. Thats why i stay away from automatic. I drive 6 speed manual now...
