The transmissions are identical; the bellhousings (and I believe flywheels and starters) are different. Why would you want to do a swap?

I picked up a sport tran for around 500 bucks, so it worth a try , other than spending 1500+ on a used tran

I'm not sure what you're saying, all of the 6-Speed manual transmissions for the entire line of 3G TLs are identical.

The trans aren't identical internally. The 07/08 Type S 6MT shares some similarities with the older trans but it was beefed up for the most part for the 3.5 upgrade.

Are you sure, or were the differences simply to help correct for the 3rd gear issues?

There were changes in multiple parts of the transmission. There were changes in the bellhousing, fluid passages, and more minute changes.
The 07-08 trans IS DIFFERENT both in bellhousing and reliability and clutch fitment from the 04-06 manual.

However, if you swap the 07 MT in, what you'll "gain" is a cheaper clutch (can't explain this one), more reliability, possibly a fix for the 3rd gear issue, and a bellhousing that is more updated and compatible with newer blocks IIRC.
That being said, swap for the engine, not the transmission.

If you look at my earlier posts I already called out the bellhousing, flywheel (the clutch is the same), and starter.

As for the fluid passages, do you have any documentation which supports different fluid passages (something I totally get for an automatic transmission, but not for a manual)?

Not sure really why the changes were made but just quickly going through the parts breakdown shows more than a few part numbers that are different..

Manual transmissions have fluid passages? I thought that was an automatic thing.

You are correct, virtually all manual transmissions have no such a thing fluid passages.

As has been stated several times, the transmissions are 100% interchangeable; the bellhousings, flywheel, and starter are not.
