cops wrote over 300 speeding tickets today

Today I drove into a speed trap with over 50+ police cars/bikes. Damn that shit makes my nervous to play with my new headers.

The cyclist wasn't seriously injured except for his pocketbook -- they cited him for reckless driving.
Popping a wheelie in plain view of 50 officers is not recommended.

And a couple of tickets were issued for a newly passed state law requiring motorists to slow 20 mph under the posted limit when passing a stopped emergency vehicle, such as an ambulance, a firetruck or a patrol car with an officer already writing somebody else a ticket.
That's BULL-SHIT !!!

Then why don't they pass the same law as most other states have....you must move over 1 lane and leave the one lane empty between the traffic stop on the shoulder and the passing traffic.

Slowing to under the speed limit just isn't going to fly, you could actually get a ticket for traveling less than the posted speed limit.

Where there it is: http://www.respondersafety.com/laws.html

Suggest everyone read up on their own state laws, word travels fast when the laws get enforced and I did see a lot of cops on the road today since the weather was very nice.

That's just silly, slow to 20mph under the posted.

When the " Law " is being broken this often by so many people, it's the law that's wrong. That speed limit is obviously too low.

Actually, the new law is to either move to the next lane leaving 1 empty lane between your vehicle and the officer or slow down to 20mph below the posted speed. Failure to do either one result in a 200 dollars ticket, I believe.

There have been fake traffic stops just to ticket drivers who do not comply (intentionally and unintentionally) with the new law.

That's correct.

Not all traffic must slow down. Just the right most lane. If you're in that lane, you must either move over or slow down to 25 mph (in Michigan, I think).

As much as I hate cops doing stuff like that, lots of police officers get hurt or lose their lives because of inattentive drivers swerving into cruisers and/or vehicles pulled over. I am ALL FOR this new law.

Although cops do suck (especially when they bust you), who are you going to call when you need help? Yep, cops. I'd rather have them around than not.

I could see slowing by 10 maybe... But if you had to slow by 20 when passing someone, you would cause many more accidents. Its like when an accident happens because of rubber-neckers going the other way.

I see...that's totally makes sense. We only have the move-over-if-you-can clause here in KS...that's too bad they "need" the add'l for the Texas "drivers".

Sorry, but I see this law causing more harm than good. Imagine people slammiong their brakes on to try and get down from whwtrever speed they are at to 35mph. Thats just asking for a multicar pileup.

Its a joke that they still try and claim that these are done for our own safety, as opposed to a quick way for cash strapped municipalities to generate more revenue.

I still say you should not be allowed to pull over on the freeway for a traffic stop. If the cops catch you for speeding, you should have to exit the freeway. It's just too dangerous out there, no matter the laws.

The law makes sense, I mean police shouldn't have to risk their lives just to write a ticket.

Although, why does Montana have this law? You'll be lucky to see a cop in most parts of the state let alone drive by one giving someone a ticket.

I want to severely hurt whomever came up with that idea. It's really going to cause MORE accidents and traffic when people slam on their brakes to drop 20mph.

I agree, a cop who feels that a motorist has not pulled over far enough or is in an unsafe area should just direct the motorists some place else. Of course, there are no fines/revenue for that are there.

Who, after all, believes that getting a ticket for driving 68 mph on a six- or eight-lane interstate is justifiable?
