Car starts but dies and won't idle?!?!?
Hey guys just did the timing belt and water pump bc my water pump blew a seal so everything that was bad has been replaced so far....I went to crank it for the first time since that install and it started but will not stay running and will not idle. I can give it gas and make it run for a little bit but after I release throttle it dies! Any thoughts of what could make this happen? I have ran out of options at this point and I'm hoping my fellow acura owners may be able to help!?!?!

did you have the intake manifold cover off?
the top gasket can be installed upside down and look correct- but block an important port
match gasket to cover then flip over and install
timing marks- valve marks were perfect?- the cam moves slightly during belt removal

Mr.Helpful Diagram
Timing marks are crucial, You can verify by taking off both upper timing covers and match all 3, crank and both cams.
Is the check engine light on ?

How was the car running before the water pump blew ? Inspect all wiring connections and sensors.
Perhaps ya have a head gasket issue ? Any codes ?
Doublecheck your T-belt work and if everything lines up, then maybe it's something electrical or fuel related causing a problem. Pressure check the fuel and load test the charging system.

iirc you have to be careful of the crank trigger sensor while dealing with tbelt
knocking it loose off position or damage a wire etc
actual performers of this job can be of more help there

exactly how badly was it overheated- how many times in the red before it got fixed?
guessing the wp seal was leaking from drip hole for a while?
The above question about head gasket is valid, an oft found problem of poor running after cooling prob with tbelt and wp replacement is a blown HG

Also make sure you replace the tensioner, i didnt and thank god it held up cause when i took it apart was locked in place and belt was completely loose, the seal behind the timing pulley, and make sure no teeth broke off of that timing pulley, i broke one off and car would turn on for a 1 sec and turn right off, didnt notice i broke a tooth off until a couple days, talk about frustration for the stupidest thing. Good luck

^^^ This is why it's really important to replace all of the miscellaneous parts associated with the T-belt replacement. After all it's the heartbeat of our TL's motor and the service should be performed properly for best overall performance and lasting results for the next 100k. Not a place to cut corners !
